At first I was so afraid that they would say how unusual her style was, or how it just wasn't right, or demean it like other TV personalities demean comics, anime or alternative fashion. But instead they were so positive! Thank you to the doctors for treating her with such love and respect :) She deserves it!

Any medical professional worth their salt will tell you that even diseases with no cure that will eventually kill you seem to progress slower with a positive attitude.
It's like a brain thing. You tell your body "I want to live!" and it does whatever it can to stave off death.

As a disabled person, what her husband just said.. if my significant other ever said that about me, it would have honestly just destroyed me. One of my biggest fears about dating is becoming a burden for someone. And calling her a little kid and saying he's gotta take care of her... idk I just hope she doesn't feel the same way I do.

She's so adorable! You can tell that despite what she's going through (or maybe even because of it, in a way), she's just this little cute ball of positivity and light. It's so endearing, and to use her hobby and passion as a creative outlet to deal with her everyday struggle is just inspiring as hell. This is a true warrior.

I need to throw something out. Not everyone who has MD is thin like her. I myself have MD (as well as my dad) and we both are overweight because we do not have the energy nor muscle mass to exercise. (people actually do ask me why we don't exercise and well, we PHYSICALLY CAN'T) there are over 200 forms of the illness and some even cause weight gain
But you don't need to exercise to maintain a low weight...
you need SOME. normal healthy people can easily say "you don't need much exercise to stay healthy!" because most healthy people still get ENOUGH exercise to burn off the necessary calories without even realising it. you might burn a few hundred while walking from the train station to your school/place of work. if you are in school, they often require students to get a certain number of hours of exercise a week.
for people with MD, it can be near impossible to get the necessary exercise to burn off the average diet (2000 calories/day) as even a short walk can be extremely taxing. for people with MD that has progressed very far (eg where its extremely difficult to even just stand up), they'd have to practically starve themselves to maintain a low weight.
madeleine61509 80% of jobs are sedentary/desk jobs. Most people drive everywhere even for a five minute walk. You underestimate how lazy the general population is, and how little exercise they get in daily activities.
Also, if you can't possibly get any physical activity to the point of not even being able to stand, why would you need the average of 2000 calories a day to sustain yourself?
ShiveringGaze27 ... and most of that part of the population (which both have a sedentary job AND never walk or get exercise outside of work) is either overweight or obese and thus that point is irrelevant.
fact of the matter is if you cant even get out of bed, even consuming just 1k calories will cause you to become overweight over time. even if you dont get out of bed, you still need to consume food to function but it wont be burned off properly because you arent doing anything to burn it off, thus causing the person to put on weight.

Her husband seems like such a sweet caring and kind man. She is so lucky to have someone who loves her so much. And I feel horrible that she NEEDS to get in costume just to be excepted. Big props to her husband/fiance Martin, it's not easy taking care of someone with an illness, I took care of my father for most of my teens and early 20's because he has Crohn's, MS, and a laundry list of other illness and now that I'm sick with a seizure and migraine disorder my fiance has to take care of me and it's not easy.

I had 3 brothers with muscular dystrophy the oldest died when he was 14 and the other 2 died a week apart around Christmas time I miss them so much I'm very happy to see how you turned a negative into a positive

I just find the two situations interesting. I don't have any problems with how this woman is choosing to be, and I'm happy to see that lolita culture is making her happy! I'm a fan of the style myself. It's just a little disheartening that one type of person is praised for dressing like that, and another type is mocked.
Nadiali Yeah I have to agree in a way. She should most certainly dress that way way if she wants to, if anyone wants to he or she should. The thing that bothered me was she coped with people calling her a crackhead and horrible things by dressing like a doll--which would imply it was for everyone else or to make being social easier. I get it. I have a disorder called porphyria. If I decided to play up my vampire-esque features and I posted it all over social media as my method for coping I'd probably have a lot more friends. My issue here is HER happiness. I think she is absolutely a sweetheart dressed and made up as a doll or not. I just hope it's because she wants to each day, I know with her disease and my disease we have very limited energy and I wouldn't want her wasting it because people can be judgemental. I hope this makes sense.
That is exactly what I thought after watching this. Fortunately, there's another video that explains that she has always loved dolls and was dressing in a mild Lolita style before her deterioration. It sounds like having MD gave her the courage to go full on Lolita the way she wanted to.

This is so sad... it breaks my heart that this girl was treated like this. But I am so glad that she is trying to see her condition in such a positive light and that her husband helps her ... so sweet!

I met Amber at this past Long beach expo and she was a real sweetheart... The thing that blew me away she was standing by herself in the cosplay area where there is professionals and she stood out like a living angel seriously... She blew everyone away with her look. I had no ideal she was sick she did have a cane but she made it look like a prop. What a sweetheart I hope someone can fine a cure for this disease and help heal her an others just like her!

I'm a single mother of 3 disabled special needs children and sadly we also don't have the help or family that we could surely use. I understand the struggles and worries one can have. As parents worry about their children doing certain things, I worry about my children NOT doing some of those certain things. I never thought I could raise 3 special needs children myself. Especially when I'm unable to work because of 2 of their disabilities. My children are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and my life!♡

It's sad that so few who need help actually get it. I admire you and your "can do" attitude. Many people cannot handle one special needs child and whine about it. Here you are with three. My mother in law (90 yrs.) and I are both disabled. Although she has a perfectly healthy daughter, "her house is just too small" and she cannot care for her. We have a large enough house because we bought one with my mother in law in mind! My husband works and cares for both of us, grocery shopping, doctors, house cleaning, cooking etc. I have always believed that where ever there is a will (or a want to) there is a way. Some don't have the "want to." My husband is precious. So are you.

I'm so glad to see that she got a stair lift AND a vacation. I was gifted a used stairlift almost 2 years ago by an elderly woman moving into an apartment and it gave me the gift of being able to do my own laundry and park in my (basement level) garage. It's been fantastic.
As for the vacation she got? Love it. So often, as a disabled person, people over focus on the Patient and forget the Person. The gift of a vacation acknowledges that Person and acknowledges that we all deserve things like that. Going on a trip as a disabled person is difficult and expensive, and with daily life already being difficult and expensive (plus often times income is dramatically lessened), vacations often don't happen. I'm thrilled for her that she got that chance. My personal dream is to make it back to Rhinebeck for the sheep and wool festival again. One day.
This brought me to tears and her husband is a fuxing sweetheart! I love Pixee, but I can understand why the reaction from the crowd, doctors, host(s) is so positive with this girl; this girl battles with muscular dystrophy, everyday, and uses dressing up to compensate/overcome the negativity, no plastic sugery folks: just good 'ol mind over matter.

my mom had a form of muscular dystrophy, CMT. She kept her self moving and walked years after they though she would be able to! cancer got her in the end, she was 83 years old when she passed. stay strong and keep moving!!!!

my best friend in grade school from k to the 8th had her medical condition. God blesses these people in ways unimaginable. it unites people in understanding and moral outlook of the world. that anyone can change the world

I dress up in Lolita myself. :) I love lolita style clothing. Living Doll is different but we use the same style to express ourselves. It is nice she finds this style positive as well. That is what I felt. Even when I was overweight, I actually got a lot of positive comments when dressed like this. I have since lost a lot of weight and I am now in my BMI. It is nice.
