I wish he’d been asked specifically about paintings ie why can’t you learn from photographs of paintings. His answer is almost entirely about sculpture, which obviously you need to see in 3d. I’d like to hear about why it’s absolutely necessary to go to an art gallery to see the original painting, apart from it being a nice day out or an excuse to visit Florence (or Terence in his case:)
I know what you mean . I'd only seen Picassos in books till I went to the tate modern , seeing one for real was a totally different experience. The three dancers is huge , making an instant impact on me and it truly comes to life in reality .
No such thing as a silly question…especially when it solicits such an insightful answer
Perfect. A genius.
It is about standing in front of the same painting the artist once stood

Paintings are also 3D - rewatch his explanation of examining the brush strokes and paint methods. Think about light and perspective.
For a silly question the interviewer elicited a damn good answer.

An unpleasant Victorian throwback
Try listening to him and not letting your mind/ego judge
Clearly you know nothing about Brian Sewell.
He spoke highly of you.
