Loved this piece of kit, used to gig with it back in the 90's. plugged into an Hughs & Kettner Attax 80, through to a marshal cab.. amazing sounds. Still going strong now. :)
My wife bought me an RP 6 and shipped it out to me when I was on deployment in the mid 90s. It got lost in the mail and I never received it, so I bought another one when I got back home. It was a great deal when I didn't have the cash to buy (or space to store) all the pedals that this cool board offered. I've had years of fun with it and it's still going strong today.
I bought this unit 15+ years ago..a few months later, the power supply got lost. I never got a replacement...but i do still have it! I also have an RP-1 from 1992 and it still works perfect!
I bought this in college circa 1996/7 on credit card with money that I didn’t have. Best purchase ever! It eventually crapped out and I’m sending it to Goodwill today, but it provided a lot of fun.
@@austinpolicky54 If the unit doesn't store your modified presets, that means you have to replace the quarter sized 2032 battery. You have to keep the unit plugged in while swapping out the old battery for new. Back in 2004, I had to change the battery in my RP-12 and I lost all my presets, because I didn't have it plugged out during the battery swap procedure. @@diaryofanaxeman539 good looking out! Fortunately, I got an absolute unit. Maybe has a few hours of use, at most. Talk about a time capsule. Definitely good info to know once I do have to replace the battery!!
Man, I just busted out mine for the 1st time in 20+ years and connected it to my Carvin amp. I forgot how good this thing sounded. I may have to ditch my pedal board for this. I bought mine new also in the early 90's.
There is a fun sound in that box that I discovered , if you set the cc to control the whammy type it cycles thru them and sounds like some of the weird effects that came way later lol. It jumps from octave way down to 5th and all the others with the sweep
I LOVE these old Digitech units...wanna know why? Every one of these multifx units that I have or have downloaded the manual for shows that most of them have a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz, meaning, they work PERFECTLY on bass with ZERO low end loss, especially on the low B of my 7-string bass...and the extra frequency range helps me hear those higher ERB notes as well.
Awesome demo! I got one (used) as a kid in the late 90's... mine's got a December 1996 date stamp. I've still got it (though I upgraded to a Digitech GNX4) and play with it every couple of years, but the footswitches and matrix buttons are a little tough and in some cases don't work at all. How are the buttons on yours?
very quick and easy fix. Just done mine . Vid not the best and in Spanish but watch and follow. Careful not to break the tiny poles ( you'll see) basically , the copper contacts tarnish up and this is what causes the switch failure. Emery paper works a treat :-) ruclips.net/video/tsKS0W2jBWM/видео.html Now time to re live the old sounds :-)
I just brought one of the same unit back from the dead. I spliced in a computer atx PSU, because I bought it without that strange AC power adapter. Inside there is a z80 processor, so in other words it has an 80's computer inside. This is why I was able to splice in a PC PSU (the 12V, -12v and 5v are what it uses). These were made in the mid nineties though. The quality seems mind-blowing.
Gigged with my RP 1 and RP 12 going into a Digitech 2112 SGS and some of the guitarists at the gig thought I had a Helix or my old Eleven Rack. Those old RP series multi effects sound better going thru a power amp, instead of going into the Amp input.
I wonder if the RP6's expression pedal uses a potentiometer, or a led/solar cell like a Morley. If the latter. That would be cool, and a good reason to attain one of these. I still have mine somewhere.
I have the RP5 which has a lag problem when using the expression pedal as a whammy bar, you have to anticipate your playing in order for it stay on time, does this one have the same problem? 3:14 it doesn't seeem to from the looks of it.
@@gearfacts Damn Dude, because of this I went and bought me a Fender Mustang Floor which is a great pedalboard and it does have pitch shifting with an expression pedal, no lag problem BUT!!! the damn thing only outputs the shifted sound with the original signal, there is no way of getting only the shifted sound........I already have two pedalboards that do the job...halfassed...I don't want to get a whammy pedal.
Feel free to quote me on that! ;) I watch most of your effects demos, and usually search for a pdf manual after watching, and sure enough, most of the older non-guitar-or-bass-specific Digitechs have that frequency response range.
Interesting - I have found for my baritone Fender Jaguar that the Boss ME-8B for Bassis the best multi effects pedal, especially when it comes to distortion. Maybe it has something to do with frequency response.
Anyone have preset sheets for this unit? I have one and would love to have some presets ... I'm especially looking for anything that is close to Jerry Cantrell in the early Alice in Chains days.
@@westyavro you might need to replace the actual switches. I had 3 go out on mine and I found some on Amazon reasonably cheap and had a friend remove all the old ones and install all new ones. Solved my issue. Thing still runs like a champ!

Hi Benjamin. Man this video was made so long ago, I can't remember exactly how to operate it. ll I can suggest is to google "Digitech RP6 PDF" and the manual should appear. Sorry i couldn't be more help :)
Probably a battery issue. All older Digitech units needed a battery to store the memory. And usually, you have to replace the battery every 7 years. I've had my RP-1 since 1996 and my RP-12 since 1997.

Well for $23 I'd give it a go. To be honest this was so long ago, I can't remember how heavy the reverb could get :) GF

Hi Benjamin. Man this video was made so long ago, I can't remember exactly how to operate it. ll I can suggest is to google "Digitech RP6 PDF" and the manual should appear. Sorry i couldn't be more help :)
I'm pretty sure you step on the up and down footswitches simultaneously and hold for a second, toggles between those modes.
This is not early 90's or late 80's, this was released in 1996...
Yeah could well have been
Wish I still had mine.. I have no idea what happened to it, it was so long ago!.
Me too
why what happen, coz i have my xp100, dead too, used it for 17yrs during the 90's, died last 2014
Probably a battery issue.
All older Digitech units needed a battery to store the memory.
And usually, you have to replace the battery every 7 years.
I've had my RP-1 since 1996 and my RP-12 since 1997.
Is this better than the rp7?
About the same. I think the rp 6 has more antiquity charm
I had this! Still do actually…
Vintage gear now :)
Just got these today on offer up for 55 bucks
