    A few thoughts/tips/suggestions for you. First, instead of "random", you can use a program like QRDUDE to help you with the depth of blocks and order they go in. Second, the smaller blocks will diffuse better in frequencies that are important for studios. Second Part 2 - the depth (height of blocks) and size of the overall diffuser determines the lowest frequency you can diffuse; smaller individual blocks will diffuse higher frequencies (no less than 1" x 1"). Also, you can lighten up the overall project by breaking it up into quadrants, and/or using a good forstner bit to hollow out the blocks before you glue them to the backing plate. Finally, you'll need a LOT of diffusers to have a really big impact...but I'm betting you'll get a notable improvement if you build at least two more of that size (especially if you use 2 x 2 blocks with greater depth). I hope that helps out some!

      This guy is right, but maybe too polite to get his point across. You screwed up bad. I'm surprised someone would make a video about building a skyline diffuser without knowing what a skyline diffuser is. Those blocks ARE NOT random. Some serious math goes into these so that they will diffuse sound and if you don't get the sizes and pattern right, it won't work. You made the equivalent of putting a Ferrari body on top of a '96 Honda Civic - looks close, but not right.

    awesome. do you like these bigger 4x4 diffusers better than the 2x2's?
    Also, I was thinking about doing this but making a slight angled cut...maybe like 10 - 20° on the miter saw and have each piece slanted a random direction.
    would this further help sound dispersing?

    • @BobsWoodStuff
      @BobsWoodStuff  2 года назад +1

      The main thing I learned after making a diffuser with smaller pieces is that it takes SO MANY pieces at that size, so I went with the 4x4 size to get a larger diffuser without having to cut hundreds more pieces.
      They take a little bit of sanding, so each piece adds up in production time.
      I've seen some diffusers that have an angle on the pieces like you mentioned, and they look nice, but the diffusion would be less predictable.
      Mine is random, but for maximum audio benefit, it is recommended to use a diffuser calculator that says the exact height for each piece.

    sir is there any specific rules of making it..??? and why the variation in size of those fragments??? why wood is used sir?

    • @BobsWoodStuff
      @BobsWoodStuff  4 года назад

      The variation in sizes is what makes this design work. When the sound waves hit the different surfaces, they get randomized, so you get a natural sounding reflection, without hard echoes like a flat wall.
      It doesn't absorb like acoustic foam does, it is a different effect.
      I tried to make the size of the pieces random, but for best results you can plan the exact size and placement of the pieces using a calculator like this one:
      mh-audio.nl/Acoustics/DiffusorCalculator3.asp?km=7.5&kl=100&calc=Calculate+Diffuser#result

    This is damn wrong made.
    You cannot placed blocks randomly, everything must be measured. High, width, and every single position.
    This diffuser doesn't work.

      Simón Meléndez it will still work, simply by its presence! It may not be as effective as a mathematically designed one but it will still work.

      @@officialWWM if you mean better than a flat surface, sure. Definitely not as a properly diffusion.
      If you wanna do an acoustic treatment you must know which frequencies manipulate.
