A few hacks I’ve discovered with dried flowers in resin.
    1) You can “paint” color back into dried flowers with alcohol ink. Let it dry very thoroughly then seal with spray sealant before using in resin.
1b) I buy white poinsettias and after they’re silica dried, I “paint” them red. (I can’t help thinking of the Queen of Hearts when I do this.) Red poinsettias turn almost purple when dried. This gives me more consistent and vibrant red flowers in the resin. I also dry white orchids and then paint them how I want them to look for my piece.
    2) Some flowers, like dogwoods & hibiscus, can go translucent when put in resin. Spraying them (front and back) with sealant (and let dry completely) before putting them in resin helps them stay opaque. Treat thin, fragile flowers almost like you would paper in resin (seal it first).
I love your videos and your ideas! Your demo is great for if you can’t get a wedding bouquet immediately into silica. I’ve found it’s awkward trying to get a bride’s flowers properly drying for best preservation immediately (they’re too focused on the day and busy after to think of the flowers much.) Letting them, hang dry is a good alternative and easier to arrange.

thanks for the great tips! also you can use uv resin for small pieces to completely seal it plus it makes the resin casting easier

Yes! I've airbrushed dried flowers before for shadow boxes

    • @laurenmuldoon3685

      Really appreciate your comment!
Do you have a sealant you suggest? Does a sealant make the petals any more or less fragile? I have some orchids I know are prone to becoming translucent that I’d love to test!
In terms of coloring flowers, is there a brand or type of paint/pigment etc. you should use in resin? I’ve heard of some pigments and paints slowly coming off and “staining” the resin over time.
      Thank you again!

It would've looked really cool to leave the extra Crete & add a few small crystals & flowers on it. It would have looked like the "garden" was pouring out & even more 3D.

The painters blue tape #2093 is amazing! I’ve been using it for years and it’s great. I gave the frog tape a shot and it’s not quite as sticky as the 2093. Lol I’m sure nobody cares but there’s my 2 cents.

This turned out so pretty! I do wish some of those purple and gold swirlies had survived in the white layer, but it still looks really good. I have a rose and some eucalyptus that some of my former employees got me for my 40th birthday that ended up drying naturally (read: I forgot to add water to the vase😅) and seeing this has decided me on putting them in resin to save them

When you're agonizing over WHY you put the crete so far towards the front I'm just like "Gurl you had no choice, it was too oozy!" You really did make those crusty dusty flowers into something magical, and the sand dispersion color wisps make it look like there's an internal wind blowing the crete foundation throughout the piece and really making it cohesive. The white first layer is such a great idea too, the crete debris on the back was bothering me so much at first until you pointed out that it wouldn't matter at all, and the background makes all the flowers really stand out.
