Okay. Reddit feels like a community with biases and opinions yet watched a lot of anime. It's a great list. Didn't disrespect any classics while also having interesting and unique picks and clear, human biases. The list ain't pretentious, newbie pleaser or niche genre simp.
It definitely disrespects a fuckton of classics. The fact that mushuko tensei was higher than perfect blue!?!?! Unbelievable. The isekais should have been like 60 or even kicked out. God damn it, I'm fighting the redditors!
Railgun is fantastic though. Sure it isn’t as good as those Ghibli films since they are some of the finest in the medium but it’s certainly a great show and one of the best battle shounen (not that the competition is very strong).
@@DavisBrown-fm3dj This and people have to understand that these votes are heavily based on how big the fanbases are. Something with multiple medias like Railgun will obviously beat out Perfect Blue because that many more people have seen it and are still active in the fandom. I can guarantee that most people that have seen both perfect blue and railgun would go for perfect blue because it's a masterpiece.

It's no surprise garnt and r/anime seem to align, r/anime specifically is filled with old timers who remember when haruhi was the new hot stuff. There's always that thread once a week of someone saying "hey guys i found this underated anime called claymore" and everyone just kinda look at the guy funny followed by either "fuck i'm old" or "dude claymore was NOT underated you just don't remember it". Rest of reddit is very hit or miss (mostly miss) but if you want genuienly good discussions and recommandations r/anime is a really good place to go. I actually find it better than most other plateforms because the brainrot and long term memory loss isn't as bad as it is on other plateforms like discord, twitter or god forbid youtube comments. Also being better than ign or crunchy is a real low bar to clear

Frieren, it Hit me like a cheap shot to the gut. I’m someone whos lost all his family prematurely, as well as my crush, good friends, and everything in between. I’m only 35, and The ability to relate to Frieren will forever make it my favourite Anime of all time. I feel you though, it’s by far not the best of all time, but for personal reason, I’m going to have to believe it in my own heart.
If you think it’s the best anime at capturing loss and grief then that’s a valid argument for it to be the best anime of all time. No shame in having that opinion
This video look like Gigguk totally forgot that this is "favorited" list not "the best", so all this "should be higher/lower" doesn't have sense at this context))
March Comes in Like a Lion is one of those shows for me that I can re watch over and over again and get something more out of it each time. It is such an incredible masterpiece of emotional storytelling. It is an anime that builds slowly over time until you find yourself completely swept up in it. I think if you go in with an open mind and not expecting it be a high octane action anime you will enjoy it. The best way I can describe it is as a quietly intense character drama with the ability to both melt your heart from how wholesome it is, and to bring you to tears, sometimes in the same episode. I don't know how far Garnt got into it, but I hope he watches the rest someday because it is every bit the masterpiece that people say it is.
frieren being on #1 overall, but lower on the top 1 rankings makes sense, cuz not many people think it's the best anime, but as it's a new and hyped up anime, many people have seen it and liked it
Makes sense, a lot of people keep strong feeling for their most favourite but for 2nd or 3rd they are likely to go with a good show that's fresh in their memory
The table at the end shows there's not a ton of people putting it at #1, but it's consistently getting more #2-100 than a ton of other shows, just look at the numbers compared to everything else by it. I think this is why there's a lot of inoffensive anime at the top of the list (it may not reach the same hype as some shows, but there's not anything bad you can really say about it)
Frieren is that one show that everyone will most likely think highly of, while it's not the most top 1 votes, it dominates the top 2-10 list and it wasn't even close For a new show that's honestly impressive, it captured so many people in such short time, even a year from now if reddit is gonna make another poll, frieren is still gonna be atleast in top 3.
@@NeolwA I honestly doubt that. I liked frieren, especially the early manga chapters, its a solid to good on every aspect. But it's not outstanding imo
I think it should be higher tbh, from character and story writing to music and voice acting, it's amazing, but people rate it lower because the animation is nothing too spectacular. I find it funny tho that Garnt still doesn't get the hype around the show while praising NGE. The both are pretty much telling the same story of character growth and trying to be a better person.
@@Loldx123 he says ReZero is still cooking, after 50 episodes and 2 movies, but is okay with Made in Abyss that has only 25 episodes and a movie, and is also still unfinished. And while, yes, Made in Abyss does makes us feel emotions with episode 10/13 and others, but DAMN, so does ReZero!! I guess the problem is that he made that video saying "ReZero is entertaining but its not a masterpiece" and ever since, has been overlooking it, unable to admit he was wrong.
I dont get garnt saying "it still cooking" . It 's like 50 episode and every episode is 30 min of really deep and complex story, it had enough content to be classic . It's my favorite anime by the way.
@@FireDragg I think he just doesn't like it as much and can't relate at all, which is totally fine. However as you said, him saying it still needs time after 50 episodes is just wrong. We had 2 seasons and people loved it. The plot is really not the main focus because it is a character driven story. If he doesn't understand why people love it so much, there are so many videos, even from big youtubers, explaining the purpose of the story. Him saying it doesn't deserve it because he didn't like it that much is a dumb take.
I thought me and Gigguk had an understanding when it came to Re:Zero It being one of if not the best Isekai makes it deserving of top 20. (As long as they don't drop the ball)
Yeah he seriously needs to rewatch season 1 and 2 before season 3 cause every time i hear him talk about re zero it feels like he didn't get anything when watching the anime that makes re zero so good. And he especially really needs to rewatch the anime if what someone said to me that he watched season 1 for the first time in 2× speed is true, idk where the person got that info from but either way that probably played a big part on why he didn't understand re zero at all in season 1 and thought it was nothing special if true. Unfortunately probably unlikely he would rewatch the anime and see everything he missed. Dunno if he has even watched the ovas.
Its definitely one of the best isekais but that doesn't make it good. Every main character is one dimensional and pretty poorly written. Echidna and Margrave are far more interesting than the main characters and even get more fleshed out than them (despite them being pretty common tropes). @@cluster4583 I think you need to rewatch them and realize a main character who never gives up because he loves a lifeless doll of a character with a magical cat isn't that unique of a story. Even on IMDb, Mushoku Tensei has only 3 episodes with a rating above 9 across both seasons, while Re:Zero has over 10. Mushoku Tensei has won 11 awards, whereas Re:Zero has won 28. The entire final saga of Mushoku Tensei was inspired by Re:Zero. Hundreds of other series, from novels to even Korean manhwas, have also drawn inspiration from Re:Zero. RafaelSouza-om1mx: @kenshin1368 Damn, you really have not paid attention at all to the show, either that or you just went into it with premade notions and didn't really watch it. Subaru is one dimensional...? Subaru never gives up because he loves a lifeless doll? There is an entire episode with Subaru pouring his heart out and trying to runaway and give up everything. Its 26 minutes of dialogue in which he talks about how he hates himself and that everything that he has been doing os far is nothing but a mask he is wearing, trying to convince himself that he is not that shitty brat that he thinks he is. Did you skip this episode or just turned off your brain? A perfect maid...? I guess you mean Rem? Where is she perfect? She is depicted as a very flawed person, who suffers deeply from self-depracation, low self-esteem and thinks of herself as nothing but a replacement. She suffers from survivors guilt due to her sister having lost her horn while protecting her. And even after Subaru manages to help her overcome that (partially), she then clings to him, instead. Where is she perfect? Just because you projected her as your perfect waifu, doesn't mean she is perfect, you just have zero capability of analyzing a character. Magical Mansion? The Mansion isn't magical at all, is just a normal building, another proof you watched it with both eyes closed. Immortal Loli who loves books...? Beatrice is not immortal, she actually wanted to die and actually DID DIE in an episode (killed by Elsa), so how is she immortal...?!?!?! She just can't kill herself, which makes her fate much more depressing. A lifeless doll with a cat...? Emilia is much more than that, she suffered racism and prejudice for her entire life, she got ostracized in a forest with the other elfs and is often a victim of assassins. Despite all of that, she still tries to look at the bright side of life. She could have become the evil Witch that everyone claims her to be, but she pushes herself and tries to be better because she wants to save her family, te people frozen in the forest. But yeah, I guess she is just a lifeloss doll doing nothing all day. Another shitty take of you just projecting what you believe, instead of actually seeing what the characters are. You are wrong even in the 7 deadly sins, since we've seen 9 (all 7, plus Vanity and Melancholy). And still, the original 7 didn't seem like the antagonists (the witches). Want an adivce, bro? There shouldn't be a difference IMO. This distinction causes people to think a piece of media is better because everyone else says it's good. There is no objectivity in this. There's a reason an anime or any piece of media is your favorite; you think it's the best.
@@xenopixel8877 I disagree. I don't have to think that my favorite is the best. For example, my favorite film is The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, but I think the best film ever made is The Godfather. Its funny he mentioned recency bias with summertime render but somehow mushoku teinsei which didnt air till 2021 deserves its place but re zero which aired 2016 doesnt? Besides that this isnt even a classics list just most liked anime on reddit. Weird take
Fr summer time rendering was such a masterpiece of a hidden gem and he's treating it like it's nothing special now? and then he got all hyped when odd taxi came up when both released around the same time and while odd taxi is really good summer time rendering is just on a different level imo.
@@cluster4583 I geniuenly think summertime render is a waste of potential, really liked the beginning only for it to randomly become an action based show with a lot of convoluted additions to the plot. odd taxi on the other hand was slow but was amazing through and through and it felt like it didn't really have any glaring issues (at least on the surface) so I understand why Garnt treated those two shows differently (obviously that's my personal take on it).
New anime can also be good. The thing is that new, mediocre anime overtake older ones because of recency bias. Garnt just finds Summertime render and re zero to be less appealing than mushoku tensei and he thinks that people place them this high because of recency bias. It's not hard to understand his logic.

That whole part about it being a "best girl" contest is literally just a fandom construct. The show itself doesn't even focus on it that much. And season 2 has been incredible
Everytime Oshi no Ko is brought up on Trash Taste, all 3 of them immediately starts to judge it based on manga leaks they saw on Twitter; with no context clues to follow through. And even though Joey said he still loves the latest developments, the boys seem to not take his words literally since Joey always likes things the "general audience" disapproves, so there's always an asterisk to his likes and dislikes. People will go on to praise Usagi Drop anime by completely cutting out the manga, but for Oshi no Ko its "well the manga tho..." (even tho most people never read the OnK manga). Steins Gate was a lil bit predictable cause it's also in the tops in MAL and stuff. Hugely Love it BTW ❤ But madoka was like Godddayum, Reddit Y'all have good taste don't ya 🔥🔥 (PTSD still haunts the anime community as it seems 🤣🤣) *Laughs in PTSD myself ☠*
I actually think the romance aspect is actually very vital to the series. It demonstrates that yes, Aqua has the memories of the doctor, but he is NOT the doctor. He is still an adolescent boy with the memories and will of the doctor locked inside of him. And it adds the dynamic of whether Aqua can allow himself to be happy and let himself be that young boy (represented by the romance), or be consumed by revenge and the will of the doctor.
1:10:00 Monster. It's gotten a lot of recognition over the past few years but I still don't think it has the popularity it deserves. Peak thriller and another anime that's reminiscent of live action shows
The production quality of Monster is not at the same level as other stuff around that time. The story is awesome but it’s always been the cheap animation and mid dialogue that keeps it just out of my all time favorites
@@novafn509 Not including movies or mangas, I can say with absolute certainty that I like these more than Monster: Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Heavenly Delusion, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Paranoia Agent, Trigun, NANA, Sonny Boy, and Mushishi. Then there's the stuff that's floating right around Monster's level for me like Samurai Champloo, Land of the Lustrous, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, and Rose of Versailles. I mean I still love Monster, don't get me wrong. It's at worst a top 15 TV anime for me, I just wish it gave more attention to the details of the more dialogue-heavy scenes.
It is a good list but there are some good shows that are missing like; Hajima no ippo, Golden Kamui, Food wars, GTO, Parasyte, Magi, and maybe Heavenly Delusion.
With episode 1 and 6 from season one and with the bangers from season 2 that have been hitting, I’d say Oshi no Ko deserves to be at 60-70 at least. It has been absolute peak this season.
@@shashwatmishraalumni4918 as a manga reader and seeing how the quality of the anime is constantly improving, I do think it will go up. Because although season 1 was carried by episode 1. And besides episode 1, it would probably not be in the top 100. I think that the series really does get better as it keeps going.
you can't disrespect rezero by saying MT is better isekai while the final arcs of MT got inspired from rezero itself 😆, like no wonder he created "trash taste" to represent his real opinion.
@@Oilup-Tyler-Vitelli2 Re:Zero started before MT and besides he's talking about the ending which the author himself mentioned was inspired by Re:Zero...You can see it's clearly mentioned in Rifujin's (MT AUTHOR) interview.

Summertime render is a perfect story with top level animation. Its not recency bias. I rewatched it all with multiples of friend groups and each time I feel the same way.
Should be higher according to Garnt: 99, 98, 83, 80, 78, 74, 71, 70, 68, 63, 56, 53, 48, 44, 37, 36, 24, 11 Should be lower according to Garnt: 88, 79, 75, 65, 57, 50, 46, 41, 28, 22, 20, 17, 12 *This doesn't include the times when Garnt said it would be higher or lower but specified "on his personal list".
For anyone doubting Re:zero right now.... Just wait for the 2nd half of S3, adapting Arc 6. It isn't just gonna blow out every other isekai anime, it's gonna annihilate most of anime itself. Arc 6 is one of THE best pieces of fiction out there rivaling that of classics like AoT. But while all that's said and done, i do beleive Re: zero already deserves it's top 20 spot. Season 3 is the moment when it becomes top 10.
56:10 Legend of the Galactic Heroes. The Greatest Anime of All Time. It's not for everyone though. If you enjoy politics, sci-fi, discussions of human nature, classical music, big brain characters and war stories, this is a must watch. If you're on the fence, watch the movies: My Conquest is a Sea of Stars and Overture to a New War. If these movies don't entice you in any way, feel free to drop it. There's also the remake too but I only recommend it if you absolutely can't stomach older anime.
86 on 28 definitely not too high. A bit but it is at least top 40. The amount of depth on the story and other stuffs like direction and script writing made it special. It have a different vibe that most anime failed to produce. Each episode felt like cinema. It's not hot take but it's a fact.
I would say I am surprised that it got higher among reddit fans given how underrated among average anime fans. People are saying the CGI sucks, expecting Ufotable level not realizing that it is done by the same company that did the CGI for Godzilla minus one and won Oscar.
I mean the first season was awesome but honestly the second more of a slow burner and even though it had its moments, the animation is honestly sub par for the competition in the top 30 and easily that, all the way to top 50 anime. But it was a good show. Very enjoyable in fact. Good protags, an intriguing world and cool Railgun.
I totally agree with your point of view. It is very wrong to compare many works of all ages before they have finished telling a story. This is because this list is full of many works that are popular at the moment because of a few ideas that may be fashionable at the moment (I am referring to Frieren), but once the novelty of these ideas has worn off, it is like taking off a coat and running naked, revealing the emptiness at its core. Works with such shortcomings should not be on the all-age list before they are completed.
The problem is that these are movies, you notice there's basically no movies going forward. My guess is that people saw "anime" and forgor 💀 that movies also counted. There's like 6 or 7 movies on this list tops so you can smell the anime bias. People didn't vote for movies, simple as.
You dont become King because a few love you the most. You become king when everyone has a positive view of you. Frieren is the LOTR of anime and it will be timeless.
People only rated it high based on the production quality rather than the writing or story, this is marketing hype 101 as any anime would get good reviews if the production quality is very high.
"Re:Zero is too high....is too early still for it to be this high.......OH YEAH BABY MUSHOKU TOP 15, TOTALLY EARNED" Brother, I can name single Re:Zero episodes that are better that pretty much both seasons of Mushoku combined.
Yeah thats why mother basement got better taste over garnt here ngl, re zero got so many memorable eps like eps 15 and 18 of s1, eps 8, 12-13, and especially emilia whole first trial and beako episode all on s2. While the only thing i remember from MT is the last battle of s1, ED and paul episode thats it. Thats not peak yet.
i dont know what to think of this top 100. imo its hard to throw all the genres into one pot to rank. if you are ranking romance against shonen, shonen anime will always have a wider audience hence a better rating most of the time.
True, It was as surprising as when I saw "Connect" as 1st in Kuma channel 🤣 (Top 70 First Take video) That one flabbozled me 😂😂😂🔥 (It's Deserved though 🌚)
Frieren that is not even ended yet as NR.1 is regency bias personified. Could it in future be in top 10? Perhaps, even likely. But after 2 seasons nr.1? Hell no
Frieren being number 1? Nah, not a chance, it took me 5 attempts to get past the first 5 episodes because I kept falling asleep. Don't get me wrong, i've now watched it all and I really like it but the show at the beginning is 'bland, boring elf girl with no personality travels a generic fantasy world with another bland, boring daughter character who also has no personality and they do nothing of interest.' Stark and Sein saved that anime as well as the exam arc. Slow burn? It's a nothing burn at the start. I had to force myself get past the first few episodes because I had the promise of 'it gets better'. Any show that you need to say to someone - it get's better - should not be number 1.
Personally I don't like this of shits, when MC is emotionless and cardboard character. It's so terrible, I can't get why so many people hyping this anime on top1 of ALL TIME. Newbies...
gigguk is right chainsaw man is too fresh to be ranked plus the anime doesn't even cover the true insanity of the manga like, the past 3 chapters were so insane compared to the early episodes
exactly it feels like at this point chainsaw man will be undisputed no1 if part1 gets animated because most of the animes in this list are FINISHED and the story arcs are over csm just barely started it should be near 70-80
I have doubts the anime will get as popular as the manga. I mean obviously more people will watch the anime than read the manga, but Chainsaw Man is a top 10 and maybe top 5 most popular manga maybe ever, I don’t think the anime will reach the equivalent of that in its respective medium
Okay. Reddit feels like a community with biases and opinions yet watched a lot of anime.
It's a great list. Didn't disrespect any classics while also having interesting and unique picks and clear, human biases. The list ain't pretentious, newbie pleaser or niche genre simp.

2 Ghibli masterpieces being sandwiched between Symphogear and Railgun is peak reddit

Garnt's peak goes hard on this one
Frieren, it Hit me like a cheap shot to the gut.
I’m someone whos lost all his family prematurely, as well as my crush, good friends, and everything in between. I’m only 35, and The ability to relate to Frieren will forever make it my favourite Anime of all time.
I feel you though, it’s by far not the best of all time, but for personal reason, I’m going to have to believe it in my own heart.
literally sameee, Frieren is so goated
If you think it’s the best anime at capturing loss and grief then that’s a valid argument for it to be the best anime of all time. No shame in having that opinion
This video look like Gigguk totally forgot that this is "favorited" list not "the best", so all this "should be higher/lower" doesn't have sense at this context))
True and a lot of it is either recency bias or nostalgia talk, rather than objectively pointing out the overall quality of the show.
I don't know how far Garnt got into it, but I hope he watches the rest someday because it is every bit the masterpiece that people say it is.
this 100%, highly highly recommend it

frieren being on #1 overall, but lower on the top 1 rankings makes sense, cuz not many people think it's the best anime, but as it's a new and hyped up anime, many people have seen it and liked it
Makes sense, a lot of people keep strong feeling for their most favourite but for 2nd or 3rd they are likely to go with a good show that's fresh in their memory
The table at the end shows there's not a ton of people putting it at #1, but it's consistently getting more #2-100 than a ton of other shows, just look at the numbers compared to everything else by it. I think this is why there's a lot of inoffensive anime at the top of the list (it may not reach the same hype as some shows, but there's not anything bad you can really say about it)
@@emonte8148 that's what I was trying to say
Frieren is that one show that everyone will most likely think highly of, while it's not the most top 1 votes, it dominates the top 2-10 list and it wasn't even close

@kenshin1368 Damn, you really have not paid attention at all to the show, either that or you just went into it with premade notions and didn't really watch it.
And still, the original 7 didn't seem like the antagonists (the witches).

the novels are goated. but the anime is also goated too. probably the best adaptation i've ever seen (talking about monogatari)
Garnt, this is a favorites list, not best list.
Reminds me when Joey made a video about Reddit's top *favorite* anime saying Reddit doesn't know what good anime is. It infuriated me lol
The Godfather is one of my favorite movies, but subjectively I think it is the best movie. It's all subjective, but I don't have to think that my favorite is the best.
@thomasffrench3639 yeah I guess I get it. Like my favorite movie is the movie I think is the best but I guess you might have some other reasons why something could be your favorite but quality-wise you think it's not the best. I'm happy you say that both are subjective criteria
The metric they are using is a pretty good way to get a best list, though. This list is way better than any other best list on the internet that I've seen.
I am just surprised people watched the damn show.

I'm watching anime for more than 20 years and I still think it's already a (modern) masterpiece and deserves to be higher, based on S1 alone.
They may be judging it by the incest plot line that will come up in that show
That whole part about it being a "best girl" contest is literally just a fandom construct. The show itself doesn't even focus on it that much. And season 2 has been incredible
His entire criticism seemed to be centered around developments later in the manga which are not pertinent to a top anime list imo
Somehow, cute girls doing cute things ranks higher in many people's list than a well written story with good characters.
@@not1noob685 season 2 has been popping off so hard. i actually binge read the manga after season 2 episode 4 because i couldnt wait. the best thing the mangaka did was make sure the rivalry with Kana and Akane wasnt just about Aqua. they have literally the best dynamic in the story not even including the romance. "Re:Zero is too high....is too early still for it to be this high.......OH YEAH BABY MUSHOKU TOP 15, TOTALLY EARNED"
Brother, I can name single Re:Zero episodes that are better that pretty much both seasons of Mushoku combined.
Yeee
Echidna's monologue alone dunk on the writing of the whole MT S2 cour 1
gigguk lives in japan and still cant pronunce 'Tatami"
31:10 Aria Series (Animation, Natural, Origination). I'd say this is easily the best episodic slice of life/Iyashikei series made
I totally agree, Aria is definetly give the purest form of Iyashikei experience for me, it so relaxing
I fuckin choked on water when i saw your name right after
One Piece being above Cowboy Bepop lmfao...
Can always bet on Two Piece Taste.
I mean of course One Piece is above Cowboy Bebop, it's far better and it's not very close lol
i dont know what to think of this top 100. imo its hard to throw all the genres into one pot to rank. if you are ranking romance against shonen, shonen anime will always have a wider audience hence a better rating most of the time.
Garnt if konsuba can be 22then you should not surprised about death note being 20
I was so surprised and so happy to see Madoka in the top 5
True, It was as surprising as when I saw "Connect" as 1st in Kuma channel 🤣
(Top 70 First Take video)
That one flabbozled me 😂😂😂🔥
(It's Deserved though 🌚)
Frieren that is not even ended yet as NR.1 is regency bias personified. Could it in future be in top 10? Perhaps, even likely. But after 2 seasons nr.1? Hell no
No worries, S1 will definitely drop to top 2 by the time S2 comes out
0:43-0:58 Garnt's realization on his anime tastes, 1:17:13 reddit pulls through!!
Agreed as a big Frieren fan
Personally I don't like this of shits, when MC is emotionless and cardboard character. It's so terrible, I can't get why so many people hyping this anime on top1 of ALL TIME.
Newbies...
No way there is no GOLDEN TIME!
gigguk is right chainsaw man is too fresh to be ranked plus the anime doesn't even cover the true insanity of the manga
like, the past 3 chapters were so insane compared to the early episodes
exactly it feels like at this point chainsaw man will be undisputed no1 if part1 gets animated because most of the animes in this list are FINISHED and the story arcs are over
csm just barely started
it should be near 70-80
I have doubts the anime will get as popular as the manga. I mean obviously more people will watch the anime than read the manga, but Chainsaw Man is a top 10 and maybe top 5 most popular manga maybe ever, I don’t think the anime will reach the equivalent of that in its respective medium
Its pretty wild to cringe at Re:Zero being barely in top 20 of all time and at the same time be perfectly fine with Mushoku being 15... DELULU TAKE
50:02 Ping Pong. Easily top 5 sports anime. It's only 11 episodes. Watch it.
Hajime no Ippo not being on here is disgraceful.
