Considering Garnt said he didn't understand the whole ToAru universe I can see why he'd give railgun a 5/10. After he uploaded his video about the series I have to wonder if he's ever read the light novels past the anime or if at all
Tbf as a diehard Toaru fan (I've read upto GT), S1 of Railgun is my least favorite in the series. It has its moments, but it's nowhere near as good as season 2 or 3. I can see the reason why he gave it a 5.

My mean score for manga is 6.2X and anime is like 6.4X. I do think a shift away from the average is justified since you pick shows and manga that you think you'd like when picking what to watch/read. That being said at some point you also start to adjust your rating scale to your personal average. It depends on what it is but if I think a piece of media is mediocre relative to what I have consumed in a similar genre I will give it a 5 or 6. The average isekai manga is a 5 on my list, even if some might argue that the average for an isekai manga would be like a 3 or 4 compared to other manga genres. Yet the average for romance is also a 5 or 6 to me even if some might argue it should be higher. I don't particularly care about people having high means but I do think it leaves too little room for the actual highlights. I already feel this way with the 7,8,9 and 10 range. Also interesting to see how few manga Gigguk has logged on his MAL. I understand it is old but still. I have 50 days of anime and like 170 days of manga IIRC.

My mean score is about 5. That's only because I pick up too many anime each season. If I cherry-picked only the anime I was sure I would enjoy my score would be far higher. At the same time, I would miss out on a few hidden gems that way. So I'm fine sitting through a lot of mediocre anime to find a few good I would have missed otherwise.
I have a 5.31 mean score on MAL. 4 and lower means I finished the show to completion, but usually means the ending was pretty poor/disappointing. 5-6 are for shows that I've finished to completion, but nothing memorable. It will be very unlikely I will remember any plot details after a few months/years. 7 is where writing quality matters more. It's when I typically look forward to the airing day for the weekly episodes. The main thing is the story can be cliche but executed very well, or not cliche but the execution is a bit shakey. Typically I would remember bits and pieces of the story and characters since it's either not generic, or generic but the best at it that i remember. 8 is where the anime I rewatch to some degree. Just something griping about it that I wouldn't mind searching for a particular episode for a particular moment, or watch the series after a few years and it still holds up. 9 and 10 is basically shows that gripe me at my core, shows that that give me emotional punches and memorable moments, that I just sometimes think about in the day to day. What differentiates them is just me comparing them all tbh. The main thing is in an anime season, there's tens of shows. Of which I can only watch a small chunk of them. And it's usually becomes 0-4 shows are 7s and higher and the rest are just 6s and lower, typically a 5 if it was just something that enabled me to pass the time.

If barely anything of what you watch is more than a 7/10 it just means you're either bad at finding things you thoroughly enjoy or don't actively try to do so.
24:37 - i just watched Anohana recently and this anime was really mediocre. It is really just cry corn and strongly forsed drama, like camon this girl is already dead many years so why they reacting like this happened few days ago?))

ngl s3 is probably the best season. AoT was at its best when not trying to be super massive in scale and lore centric. S3 was mainly about its characters and it did that flawlessly and return to shiganshina is one of the greatest payoffs ive seen for an anime. S4 was ok tbh, it suffered a lot with its pacing and the characters werent nearly as interesting as s3, same with the animation quality. I didnt like s2. Nothing much happens for most of it and its the worst paced season in the show. People mainly praise it because of the one reveal but thats it.
@@Sephirothkingdom782 I only gave s3 a 10 coz of the fights S3 is garbage if u look at it plotwise Same old shonnen shhhit good vs evil Aot before s4 was one of the great animes but I personally feel s4 is what made aot the greatest and pushed it above the rest as it showed a mainstream popular anime can think outside of shonnen for once. @@SilkSonic-c9z what? s3 having to do with good vs evil doesn't make it any worse because it was told really well. s4 is political drama for the sake of making the series less grounded and it didn't work out well for some of it due to how it sacrificed the character writing. Also I couldn't read most of the other stuff u said

Since I only seek out things I either know for a fact or have a pretty good idea I'd enjoy, anything lower than a 7 is going to be an outlier. 7/10 is certainly good but plenty of things should be better than just "good". If barely anything of what you watch is more than a 7/10 it just means you're either bad at finding things you thoroughly enjoy or don't actively try to do so.
Nisemonogatari better than Bakemonogatari? stop the cap 💀
24:37 - i just watched Anohana recently and this anime was really mediocre. It is really just cry corn and strongly forsed drama, like camon this girl is already dead many years so why they reacting like this happened few days ago?))
Aot s4- 10
Aot s3- 10
Aot s2- 9
Aot s1- 7/8
S1 I didn't like coz I was oversaturated with shonnen trashy then naruto dbz one piece
S4 yes I think ending is easily top 3 or top 5 endings for me in anime
ngl s3 is probably the best season.

I only gave s3 a 10 coz of the fights
S3 is garbage if u look at it plotwise
Same old shonnen shhhit good vs evil
Aot before s4 was one of the great animes but I personally feel s4 is what made aot the greatest and pushed it above the rest as it showed a mainstream popular anime can think outside of shonnen for once.
There was a time I loved shonnen but times have changed ppl have changed that's why jjk is gonna flop hard when it ends coz it's doing the same shonnen shhit brung back nobara bring back gojo in yuuta bring back megumi
Absolute shhit
@@SilkSonic-c9z what? s3 having to do with good vs evil doesn't make it any worse because it was told really well.
s4 is political drama for the sake of making the series less grounded and it didn't work out well for some of it due to how it sacrificed the character writing.
Also I couldn't read most of the other stuff u said
I would just switch season 1 and 2 rating, the rest is the same as my take. And yes aot is my no 1 anime and I believe if not the best then it's one of the best anime/show ever.
@@SilkSonic-c9ztf
Your lie in april its a 5/10 at best
No at best it is 7.5/10
Lmao rating OBJECTIVELY (ONE OF) THE BEST slice of life anime a 5 is crazy
@@Pathetic-Ali There is no objectively best anime unless all anime viewers are agree on that.
@@RenatoArmas-cf7yc well I agree that there is no objective best, but still majority of the people would agree that it's one of the best. But rating it a 5!?
People who don't rate cowboy bebop a 10/10 are menaces I want to shelter myself from
@@vaeIokre you are a menace. Just for fun . Hit me with one of your favorite 10/10 shows :).
2007 is wild
Bakemonogatari 7/10 is a crime against humanity
It's highly overrated.
@@rendezvousonmemorylane nop, its just to much for your brain
@@rendezvousonmemorylane *underrated
I just watched it and if I keep my recency bias aside, for me it would still be 8 or 8.5/10
