It is such a pleasure to see people appreciate the original BG1, and having made this playthrough has made me discover how much people actually do. I'm glad you've enjoyed the video. 🙂
There are so many amazing things about the BG series, but one thing that stands out after even all this time is the sound design. The sound of a magic missile firing. The sound of opening an item description. The sound of moving a book around in your inventory. Every sound is so carefully considered and sounds exactly like what it's supposed to represent.
It is great to see that also others appreciate that aspect of the game, and that noticed how well designed and curated it is. It is truly special and I couldn't agree more. 🌟 What Black Isle has done with the sound design with BGI it's truly work that stands out and, IMO, it has been absolutely crucial in the making of the magic for which BGI it's remembered. My personal favorite, that catches me every time, are the birds throughout the forests. 🐦 I'll always remember them.
Oh, this is fun!!! I probably have more hours on the original BG2 than I have on Fallout 4. Unfortunately, BG1, I only made it to the Beregost crash and decided to stick with 2. After playing 1 in EE, I really wish I could find my original disk set. The absolute best thing about this version... Neera is not putting you to sleep while you defend her!!!
I'm truly glad you enjoyed the playthrough! 🌟 I consider it one of my favorites - in spite of its tragic ending . . . - and I'm glad it receives love. 🙂 It has been played with the full old school set of CDs, hence quite definitely why the ending has been cut short by bugs. I tried to bring it to the channel as authentic as possible even behind the scenes. The old version can still be found online on Ebay, or even the single disk version of it, and it did work for me. However, word of advice, I would run the game on an older version of Windows, whether having a dedicated computer to old games or just installing Windows XP or similar into a partition. Bugs in the original BG1 do not seem common but they are there, always lurking. 💀
For me Baldurs Gate lives on the most because since this playing this game as a child I have heard the sound effects in movies and other games countless times.
I find it very interesting that you're saying this because for myself too, whenever I play Baldur's Gate or I have recalled memories of it across the years, one of the things that reaches me first and the strongest has always been the sounds of the game; and in particular the sounds of the birds singing and chirping throughout the woodlands while exploring and adventuring. One of my favourite experiences and things to do in Baldur's Gate has exactly been the wandering across the lands because of the atmosphere and the sounds of the wilderness, something that I did not find as much in the other titles, or at least not in the same way. IMO, Baldur's Gate 2 has been designed and developed with greater focus, grander plans and a stronger and more straightforward sense of direction than Baldur's Gate 1, but this has also led to shift away the focus from the more mundane, simpler and softer elements that made the atmosphere of Baldur's Gate so "tangible", grounded and I dare say more "real". Without taking away the praise and greatness that are rightfully due to BG2, the atmosphere and overall experience of Baldur's Gate 1 is just magical and one of a kind.⭐ Thank you for sharing!🙂
@DungeonRunnerTV playing 2 right after 1 feels great because you get the slower and more open nature of bg1 but then when you desire more focus by the end if bg1 you can start bg2 and have a more focused experience.
I don't fancy the EE either. It's nice to see the true original experience again. Whenever I start a playthrough I always use the BG2-engine via that mod (can't recall the name).
I greatly agree that the original cutscene are on an all together different league of quality and beauty. Furthermore, IMO the original entry/prologue cutscene of BG1 is iconic and historic and it cannot be improved as it is already perfect. ⭐
Great to see the original animated opening intro again, it's been a long time!

I agree entirely. It is an excellent transition. 🙂
played EE and then Original and this one is still the best experience.

Baldurs Gate > Baldurs Gate 2
no no nooo. bg2 best
Enhanced version cutscene look like shit compared to the original.

Did the original not have the same keyboard shortcuts?
Definitely like the loading screen art and cutscenes better than EE.
EE version is goddam castrated.
Original is true masterpiece
I keep playing the original!
