I think the logic is simple, create a canvas with a multiplier of your tile, say you have tiles of 64x64, then you create a canvas of 64*n x 64 * n, where n is a number you pick, let's say n=10, 64*10 = 640, so your canvas is 640x640. Set your grid to 64x64. Draw a rectangle (any color) of 64x64 and convert it to a smart layer. Duplicate that rectangle in horisontal direction, then duplicate everything in vertical, grid aligned Jump into your smart layer by double clicking on it and it will open a new window tab. Put it asside from your main project side and start your pixel art. When you save the smart object document it will update the main doc. Do the same for other tiles and you can position the smart objects as you wish. Because smart objects are shared resources all your changes will propagate on the duplicates. Have fun 👍

Ive always felt like pixel art is a lot easier and alot more simple than drawing because the smaller resolution of pixel art makes it easier for me to comprehend what to do to make the thing i want to make and easier for me to spot and correct mistakes also because with pixel art its like I'm building with colored blocks on a grid so i feel more in control compared to drawing

Wow. Simply wow. I think this is my fav video of all, seeing how you did that lava and those edges. It was simply pleasing to the eyes :0
Part of the reason why some people find pixel art so attractive is that it leaves room for imagination, tickling the creative parts of the brain just right. Also, the Diablo series does indeed have amazing, atmospheric soundtracks!
Who thinks Jazza should turn that into an actual game?
I sure do....
I absolutely love pixel art! My friend recommended I try it, maybe I should..
This was really interesting and helpful!
i will draw pixel any pixel art do you want my service
Wait...
Did Jazza upload twice a day?!
*Am I in art heaven!!!??* 😱
This is great Jazza! Thanks!
I make drawing videos as well but only twice a week. :)
Hey! I love ur vids!!
@@jakesantos9431 Aww! thanks buddy!! 😁
Omg !! Growing up in the 80's & 90's... I wish you had like 10 of these pixel art vids !!! Sooo awesome !!
Great video thanks! I found another couple videos that helped me learn how to achieve the live updating tiled preview that Jazza uses here, I saw a few people asking in the comments when I was trying to figure it out... Photoshop - 3D Menu - New Tiled Painting from Layer - and - Creating Tileable Textures in Photoshop - 3dmotive
“That’s for another time please!” UMMM JAZZA !?
Me as I recoil in disgust

He said “That’s for another time and place” not please
Alice Jarry yeah whatever
Jazza is so creative it sometimes amazes me how he comes up with these ideas
ikr
Look at the percentage for the “yes“ answer XD
I'm a yes.
So refreshing to see Jazza do pixel art.. I loved doing pixel art when I used to play a mobile Zelda-inspired game called Graal Online 😬 You were able to make your own character in the game using pixel art. Which was a really cool concept.
That looks awesome Jazza! I’ve been waiting for this video for a long time. Thank you!

I love how you explore different ways to make art and animation! This really inspires me (and hopefully other people) to try out these different methods!
You inspire everyday to try something new Josiah
I've tried sculpting animating and even foam sculpting
Your an amazing artist and i idolize you

Jazza: Yes
Why are you so good at this? I've been doing pixel art for like 6 years and I still can't even get certain things right. You just jumped right in and *poof* you already did things it took me ages to learn. Good job, mate
He has a good art background, it's easier/faster to pick up something when you already have the fundamentals.
Like i'm a programmer and i pick up new languages super easy because i already know the basics and just have to learn the specifics
Video idea!!
You should try sculpting with a kneatable eraser!

Can you make tutorial how to setup ps like that at 4:49 and further more. Short pixelart tutorial sort of...
Duplicate that rectangle in horisontal direction, then duplicate everything in vertical, grid aligned
Jump into your smart layer by double clicking on it and it will open a new window tab. Put it asside from your main project side and start your pixel art.
When you save the smart object document it will update the main doc.
Do the same for other tiles and you can position the smart objects as you wish.
Because smart objects are shared resources all your changes will propagate on the duplicates.
Have fun 👍
@@spider853 Ty, ty. Figured it.
Ahhh I havent seen a video by you for a while, You are on my subscribers list but I just over-did it a bit of a while ago, listening to you is so soothing it sometimes makes me semi-drowzy not because of boredom just because I simply fall into the video, I use to actually watch your videos for HOURS!. Is there anything you can't do when drawing? I mean "my try at pixel" dude it's like you are a natural!
I've dabbled in pixel art before. It's fun as hell and I've just mostly done objects for Deviantart profile decorations and what not. It's both hard, and quite easy. I don't think I could ever get into drawing people or whatever but it's still fun. And you did a phenomenal job Jazza!
There's a game called Stardew Valley and it's pixel art but it looks very good
Hem, i think ill give up, it’s been a month im trying pixel art, and can’t even make a freaking tree and Jazza :

Meanwhile.... REAL Pixel artists are almost dying of cringe.
(btw Minecraft kinda made Pixel art popular again)
Ive always felt like pixel art is a lot easier and alot more simple than drawing because the smaller resolution of pixel art makes it easier for me to comprehend what to do to make the thing i want to make and easier for me to spot and correct mistakes
also because with pixel art its like I'm building with colored blocks on a grid so i feel more in control compared to drawing
Honestly watching Jazza do pixel art had me totally chill. No idea why but now I wish there was more 😪
Jazza: browses deviantart
Me: hey, I recognize that artist (rgbfumes)
Jazza: scrolls down

Does anyone remember the sandbox game? I think that’s what it’s called
ya it still exists
I'm so mad by how amazing that turned out. I love it so much, it's gorgeous.
That... was really impressive. My expectations were not very high, but I think you would have easily surpassed even the absurdly high expectations of any reasonable person. Really excellent stuff, dude.
ok, but how you multiplied the tiles while you were still editing it? how's this called so I can search.
Would also like to know...
Bruh that's unfair i do pixel art on my phone xd

I can't help but be bothered by the fact that the character was holding a light source in a dungeon with a literal LAVA RIVER and still be surrounded by darkness

YES THIS IS THE CONTENT THAT I LOVE, JAZZA USING CREATIVITY AND REALLY COOL WAYS OF MAKING ARK, SPENDING LOTS OF TIME AND EFFORT ON HIS WORK, AND IT SHOWS HERE, GREAT JOB JAZZA,
Hey jazza I've got an idea for you : draw a picture of your choice but printer style = you begin at the top and draw line bye line down, I think it's an hard but cool challenge and would be fun to see
Definitely go through the dark, weird crevices of DeviantArt. I want to see your reaction to that disturbing place XD
This video was a good one :,)
And I'm kinda experienced with pixel art, the pixel art was great!
His character clashes hard with the cartoon like props and colorful environment, other then that it’s really amazing for a first time.
my friend basically wrote 99% of the pixelart wikipedia page.
This is so cool

@@suwinkhamchaiwong8382 I don't feel like saying his name, but he's really into pixelart, and he got dissapointed by the lack of information when he looked at the Wikipedia page, so he decided to write down basically everything he knows. I'd say he's quite talented. :)
@Francisco A G What? I'm simply saying that I'm proud of my friend so spent so much time about something he cares about :D
@Francisco A G Oh well. no harm done :)
@Francisco A G every comment does. nobody cares about anyones opinion anyways until it strikes their own.
This is excellently done! Good job Jazza.
So happy to see you venturing into pixel art Jazza! It really is a fun area of art to "delve" into. ;) Your piece turned out great! I think it would be cool for your next pixel art venture to go into animating tilesets and effects, such as making the torch fire flicker, and the lava flow. :D
