- Hey there folks! The Dead Air Odessa-9 and JK Armament 105CCX are both 9mm cans designed for specific roles. Both cans are around 1" in diameter and both cans are user serviceable as well as modular. Both of these cans are specifically designed for use on 9mm semi-auto handguns but the 105CCX branches off into a micro niche as a boosterless, concealed carry can. With so much being similar between these two cans lets see how they stack up against each other... Enjoy!

The 105ccx needs to be used wet. Mine is in nfa jail the last few months waiting. Its meant for concealment and for concealment pistols. Great video.
Very true. It’s definitely more suited as a lightweight concealed carry can vs a full size range can.
I run the O-9 on my HK VP9 mostly and it works so damn well. Great go to can for a go to gun IMO
It works better than it should for its size 😎👌
A good metric to keep in mind is OSHA says that decibels at 140 for a single impact noise is "hearing safe" it just so happens that cci standard velocity 22lr out of a 16 inch barrel is 140db
Mightve need to reduce down to 148gr mightve worked at that point. 160 grs have a harder time cycling on any pistol.
Good point 🤔👍
"Is designed to be used wet"
Proceeds to do all testing dry lol. What a shed.
I know right 🤦♂️
You just saved me from making the wrong choice. Was considering the CCX for the B92, forget it. Thank you very much.
Ya I thought it’d cycle great but it didn’t. The Odessa did however operate pretty well and sounded good 👍
Just under four months to get mine (from paperwork to in-hand). I picked the JK because I liked the cost and the fact that it didn't need a booster. Plus, the Odessa looked a lot more gassy.
Won't get to test it out until the spring, but I've really got your video to thank for it!
Four months, that’s great dude! 😃
I’m glad the video helped you out. I hope you enjoy your can this spring 😎🤙
I seen a guy at a gun show yesterday. Selling solvent raps that look just like these suppressors the baffles screwed into each other It had legit baffles that just weren't drilled out.
Never seen one like that before. And right across from his booth was a GSL suppressor booth I've never seen anyone selling supressors at a gun show here in SC . That was a first for me. But me and him had a good laugh at the guy across from him, me. And him both thought either He is a fed trying to get some people caught up in a honey pot or he is just one brave mfer
Haha, ya they think they are sneaky 😂
@@CalebDowning yea they do I've seen him at 2 other gun shows. Since then, and Nobody was walking up to his booth. And when I was standing next to it, looking at some other stuff, me and another guy started talking about how crazy it is that this guy thinks someone's gonna buy one of those nowadays, ain't no way he's selling any of them. And what's even crazier is he wants four and five hundred dollars for them
@carolinaplinker 😂
Just got my Odessa 9. I'm getting the 105 for my P365 next. Good video brother,
Awesome man, thanks! Hey, when you get both cans in hand, I’d love to hear how you think they compare to each other 🤔
great comparison, for it being twice as long the Odessa is so much more gassy then the CCX
Thanks man. True, this is an interesting point 🤔
Great video! I have both the Odessa and the CCX and I also find that the Odessa is much quieter when both are in the full configuration. The Odessa is even quieter dry than the CCX wet, though as you indicated, the Odessa definitely has a first round pop. I purchased the CCX for concealed carry only, and I find that it works quite well with only one baffle and wet with petrolium jelly. That is how I will carry it on my Glock G43.
Great observations and input 😎👌
I like how you can approciate the CCX as a “quieter” muzzle device and not a ninja quiet suppressor. Keeping cans in their wheelhouse is hard to do but I think your application is spot on 👍
What holster configuration do you plan to use? I have a 43x and I've been thinking of getting the trigger-guard only holsters.
@@DoneWithAlgorithmTorture I haven't started carrying my G43 with the suppressor just yet, I'm still experimenting with it. However, when I do, I'm only going to carry it with one baffle , so I would imagine that any holster with an open bottom would work. Perhaps a holster for a G48?
great vid thanks!!!!!!!!!
Thanks 😎🤙
Would have been interesting to see them compared by length instead of by # of baffles. The DA was always going to do better with the same number of baffles since its blast chamber is considerably bigger. Still, great video!
You’ve got a good point 🤔 Most of the DA blast baffle is taken up with the booster so there is a little bit of “special illusion” going on. It would still be interesting to compare by length like you said though.
Look into the barrel that Jk offers
Interesting, I didn’t know they made barrels. Do you know what sets them apart from other barrels, say AIM Surplus barrels for instance?
I got the JK knowing it wasn’t super hush. It’s super light, doesn’t need a piston and maybe can just take off enough muzzle flash and percussion indoors to not incapacitate my hearing and sight short term. It’s a bedside set up, not carry for me. I prefer the subjective side by side to nerdy decibel comparisons, I can read db’s on the spec sheet and unless they’re shooting what I use it can be way different.
I like your style my man 😎👌 Well thought out and no unrealistic expectations.
Let’s try the hammer on Joe !
the odessa is quieter no matter what. i wish the 105 performed as good as it looks.
True that. 🤙😏
When you say designed to be shot wet means what? It has to be wet or it can be used wet?
It performs best when you put some vaseline or other “wet” material on the baffles. You don’t have to run it wet but it will sound better when it is wet.
I'm considering the JKA CCX and here's the niche use case: I'm thinking about how I want my Flux Raider set up for concealed bag carry. The P320 is notoriously finicky when it comes to suppression. Removing the need for a booster might make the Raider reliable enough for emergency defensive use because as it stands today, I can't rely on it cycling consistently with my DA Wolfman. And this is what many people report about suppressing the Raider with different cans. So if it did ensure reliable cycling, it would be the best way to suppress the gun even if the sound suppression on the can won't really compete with other cans in a strict sound comparison. I haven't checked if you have a Raider, but if so, I'd be very curious to know how the can works on your set up. Appreciate the content!
That’s a great niche setup. I do have a Raider so next time I go out I’ll try and remember to see how well that setup runs 🤔🤙
@@CalebDowning That would be great to hear about
Is the 105 ccx hearing safe through the 22lr configuration you have done?
It’s a little loud but I’d say it’s safe. If you keep it in full configuration and wet, then you’ll be happy. I need to get a 22cal front cap for it and see how that’ll help tone everything down 🤔
Odessa was definitely quieter
👌
Always saw Mr.gunsNgear and other channels using those cheapie decibel readers and all the people in the comments like ooooooahhhhhh. I’m just like 🤦♂️ those things don’t even read that stuff 🙄. Silencerstudent has one of the legit decibel readers and tests a lot of mostly form 1 cans but all kinds of manufactured cans too.
I looked it up and those legit units cost in the realm of 10K 😅 Not something I’m gonna spend money on right now 😏 It would be pretty nice to have one though.
@@CalebDowning yeah they’re pricey and it’s a super niche thing, i think most people that know cans know that you’ll never get super sonic to be movie quite and at this point it’s really just splitting hairs on who has the quietest can. I’m more worried about durability,purpose/ functionality and modularity. It would be nice just to check some manufacturers crazy ass claims though lol.
what do you mean by tune
Good question. So when you add things like suppressors to firearms it changes the balance in how they operate. So if you want the gun to work properly with a suppressor then you need to tune it but changing the weight of the recoil spring or finding ammo that had more or less pressure.
That’s a relatively simple way to explain it. I’m sure others can chime in with more detailed info.
The oddessa is definitely a better suppressar that's why it's double the price
🤙😎 Agreed 👍
For those that want to get to the shooting of these then start at 5:30. yes there is that much talking going on and repeating and on and on and on and on and on. everything that was said could have been done in under a minute so yes he likes to hear himself talk. other than that its a good video. He says he could talk round and round about it but he wont, but that is what he has done through the whole video. dude, do you watch your own videos?? you talk and talk and talk with no real meaning. this whole video could have been 5 minutes long. the shooting of them was so short that we couldnt really know what was what. so not really a comparison.
Ya know what? You’re so right 😏 I do end up talking a lot. Thanks for that constructive criticism 👍 I tried looking up your channel to see your style of content and learn from it… but I couldn’t see any videos you put out 🤔maybe I was looking in the wrong place 🤷♂️
Anyway, thanks for the feedback 😎👊🏻
Its so funny how most reviewers all repeat what the company calls it, Niche cans. Its almost like JKA sent out a script for everyone to read. Its funny but then again its sad at the same time.
Super sad for sure 😏
@@CalebDowning you're not sad, that was really meant as in general about the others. that seems like they are passing out the spec sheets on whatever gun or suppressor the are showing off.
I do apologize for the way I came across. I should have fast forward and not say anything. I do like the shooting parts because i have a can almost identical but mine measures 1.34 on the outside and made from steel.. I haven't shot it yet, so I was wanting to see and hear yours shoot. I'm 55 and I guess I still act like a kid. I reread what I wrote and I was harsh. If you want me to delete the post, I will..
I'm still debating if I should do a review on mine. And get back into the videos. I stopped because I let the comments get to me about my cleft palate..
I apologize , and i will delete them if you want me to.
@blackops84321 No need to delete anything. I don’t read too much into the comments. It’s easy to get riled up if you let then get to you.
Just be honest, the JK 105 CCX 9 sucks for sound suppression. 😂
If absolute suppression is what your looking for then the CCX isn’t for you, I won’t argue with that. But if you want some suppression in a small lightweight device then it fits the bill quite nicely.
@@CalebDowning The problem is you have no data to backup your claim *son.* Compare it to a linear compensator like the Kaw valley precision (long version) and it will give that gimmicky Joke Armament CCX a run for its money without having to pay the illegal ATF $200+ and wait an entire year to receive it.
And…that is completely the point of the CCX. Good enough suppression in the super compact size.
@benb3910 Exactly 👌
Are you still a cop
Not anymore 👮🏻♂️
@@CalebDowning how come ?
Neither one sounds suppressed. Cross both of these off my list…
