This should go without needing to be said - if a country allows you to enter, if you want to stay there you should make it a top priority to establish citizenship there ASAP, since the conditions are likely most favorable at that time. Politics change and when nationalism kicks in, the undocumented are among the first to be affected.

You forgot the context, Afghanistan have been in constant state of warfare since 1970s. This war is also further exacerbated by the meddling of the Pakistanis. So, Pakistan have a responsibility of all this migrant, or at least give them humanitarian support before returning to their homeland that is wasted by decades of conflict. But they didn't. Instead, they blame the afghans for all the economic misery because of their incompetence government. This is not just a "change" in politics. This is a discrimination against a nation.

But since Afghans were undocumented, they weren't able to get birth certificates of their children so their children are also not subject to any citizenship
You have to live more than 5 years in Pakistan and do a job that is valuable for country

This reminded me childhood story "THE CAMEL & THE NOBEL MAN". Once upon a time a man was travelling through the desert along with his camel. It was winter season and nights became very cold in desert. After sunset man decided to take rest and set his camp. Outside camel felt too much cold and requested the man if he can enter his face inside which was accepted. After sometime camel again requested to enter his front legs which was also accepted. But it was not enough for the camel and he entered his rear legs as well. There was not enough space in the camp & the man had to sleep outside in the cold. As the guy said although he is ethnically Afghan, he has never been to afghanistan. He does not speak the language nor does he knows the culture of the afghan people. If the solution was to be found, it should have been found back in 1948. But in 1948 people wanted a war instead of negotiation. A lot of time passed, now the new israelis are living there. All their life they have only known Israel. They do not identify themselves as polish or german anymore. How can you just ask them to go where they came from? Old solutions would have only worked in the old times.. A new solution is needed for the new times.

As a Pakistani we have nothing against Afghans. However, there was a refugee crisis which had been lingering for a long while. I believe not only it detoriated the relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan but it created concerns of terrorism. We Hope that in future instead of hate between each other Pakistan and Afghanistan understand each other as brothers.
