We went straight from winter cold and frosts into crazy heat, low-mid 90s every day and my cilantro never stood a chance, as soon as it got warm enough for it to grow it became too hot and it immediately bolted. You can try culantro. It's a bit stronger than cilantro but can deal with the heat as long as it's partially shaded. Also, bolted cilantro is great for bringing predators to the garden that help with a lot of pests. I definitely have more ladybugs this year after letting all my cilantro bolt.

Here in my garden, Plymouth, UK, I have been growing Perpetual Spinach for the last four years. It has very succulent, meaty leaves that don't wilt down to nothing, unlike other varieties of Spinach. It continually crops well into our autumn and winter. It's a hardy spinach that rarely bolts, even in dry conditions. When the leaves are picked very young, they have a lovely sweetness to them. I think you will love eating this wonderful spinach.

Hi Jacques, before the end of the season, I’d love to see a round up comparison of all the varieties you’re growing this year (especially the things new to you, like some of the tomatoes, stuff from Row7, etc)!
Here’s what I just started: silver slicer and lemon cucumbers, casper and rosa bianca eggplants, white bitter melon, tendersweet orange and cal-sweet watermelons, Minnesota midget cantaloupe, green flesh honeydew, desi squash, Clemson spineless and hill country red okra, sugar rush peach and lesya peppers, green beans. Tomatoes: Paul Robeson, San Marzano, Jubilee, big rainbow, pineapple.
Flowers: Royal carpet purple alyssum, bachelor buttons, zinnias, moonshine sunflower, wild bergamot bee balm, petunias

I totally agree with tomato planting now or even later. Last year in August, I planted 2 San Marzano. To my surprise, they lived through the past winter, spring and now summer. These two indeterminate tomatoes gave a very early start of home-grown maters for salads. The two are still prolific given their age. I’m so amazed and inspired to always experiment.

For parsley, I use a useful speed hack where I sow the seeds in moist starting mix in the 6 cells and then put the six cell in a ziplock bag and then freeze the six cell in the freezer for one day. You can even do 2 days. Then I bring out and put on the 1020 tray over a heating mat. The cold to hot seems to break the seed shell and I get 100% germination in less than a week. I got this off of the Southern Exposure Seed Exchange sowing instructions for parsley. Haven't had any issues germinating parsley since.
