Yeah, that's interesting. I noticed that in "Kill Shot," Eminem has a line that goes something like this:
"Is that a death threat or a love letter." He squishes "threat" and "or" together as if it's one word, like "threator" so that it rhymes with "letter." I don't know what that technique is called, but I know he uses it a lot. He's a clever dude.

It's called rhyming incorrectly and pretending it's correct. Saying words wrong for the sake of your song is not "cool" or "impressive", it's just grammatically incorrect, and I don't know why so many people praise Eminem for it. It makes him sound and look like a dumbfuck.

@@Benjiha at the same time rhyming is not as hard as people think. Anyone can have a complex rhyme scheme by just using a bunch of rhymes as long as they end the sentences / bars with end rhymes. To be fair, a complex rhyme scheme doesn’t necessarily equate to a smooth flow. Em has a smooth flow because the placement of his rhymes lands perfectly on the beat which helps create that smooth flow that we hear which is one half of writing a good rap song. The other components of having a smooth flow are: syllable management ie how many syllables are supposed to be in the bar, and pacing ie how fast you need to say your words to fit the end rhyme in the bar. Which Em flawlessly executed on this verse. But, with more time and effort anyone can rhyme and flow like Em while telling a story which is also, by the way, the other half of writing a good rap song. Also on lose yourself there’s not a single double entendre. Everything means one thing. To be fair, there’s metaphors, but that not the same as double entendres.

      Way to go,

This video is only 240p, which is extremely low. If you're unconvinced, I'm watching it on a 1080p monitor, and it is quite low quality.

If this is all that makes him "most impressive lyricists" to you. Then to me, it would be him never having a hit song.... More to do with how he writes his own melody and becomes his own instrument driving a melody. Its why nobody can remix "My name Is" without doing Em's style, for there is no better style for that beat. Same to be said of all his hit songs. You can't do better on those songs, even if you never heard Em's version. For Eminem made those beats what they're, listen to them without his words and without your mind saying his words. Later in his career he went nuts and starting hitting all components of a beat lyrically, which he did with "Lose yourself". His multiple syllables just defines his take on style. "Most Impressive Lyricist" is how he makes himself an instrument on beat and creates a hit record or he'd never have a hit record and be like the thousand of bum Battle Rappers that never become anything. Or the lyricist that needs you to "kill the beat"....... Much harder to do what Em does on a hit song and still retain word play, than it is to "kill the beat" and go acapella. MUCH HARDER can't even compare the two.....

    • @krich106
      @krich106 8 лет назад +3

He's definitely nice with it. But he not a hit maker like Em is. Sure he pitches a melody, but he is merely riding the melody on display already. I could take same beat and ride a better melody than one I heard on "Cold Wind Blows" Then he didn't use words to ride the note of the beat. Then his verses simply ride the snare. A lot easier to put his lyricism in a loose structure to beat, then it is to fully ride it. Albeit I only listened to 2 songs and on my laptop, might be missing sounds. But he got a lot of real talk, shit takes you very far for sure. Since most lack it. Oh he that guy on Dres "For the love of money" he fuckin killed that song... Damn nice with it there, def hit material. But Im not sure if that was Dre's magic doing the hooking of his lyrics or not. Still damn nice track, my fav on that album. Wish Dre just gave him that whole track.

If you listen to his song The 18th Letter which was made in 1996 it was absolutely insane. He connected words and put together so many internal rhymes. His flow was literally perfect at the time. he was just a king MC that would be looked up as a legend even today if he made the same kind of music nowadays.

I've never heard any other rappers who have used the same exact rhyme scheme throughout an entire song, but considering all of the insanely lyrical rappers who came before Eminem, I feel like the incorporation of the same exact rhyme scheme throughout an entire song has been done before "Legacy". Out of curiosity, does anybody know any other rap songs that have achieved that feat?

So this video just got recommended and omg is it ever so helpful to understand why people literally like Eminem Songs so much.
Not only does he know all those techniques so perfectly well and uses them in the most clever ways possible but what makes it even more special is how CLEAR he's rapping through his lyrics so that you still understand every single lyric or at least most of them and it still works. And to even continue everything that was mentioned in this video throughout an entire song also requires an enormous amount of vocabulary knowledge. He's probably a human dictionary tbh.

    Amazing video.
Eminem isn't the only rapper who does this kind of super intricate rhyming, in fact it was very common throughout the 90's and really defined the era. That's why rap music is appealing to me. I prefer the intricate rhyme schemes & flows these rappers pull off with syllables, which you can't find a lot of in other genres. Heck, many rappers can improvise more complex lyrics than most genres in their freestyles.

You can actually learn about all these rhyming techniques and more by analyzing Eminem's lyrics. The amount of times I have been very very impressed with the way he rhymes things that don't seem like they should rhyme but somehow do. It's very impressive the skill that guy has at rhyming. Very smart, well written, very clever lyrics. Honestly for anyone who wants to study how to rhyme things try to mimic Eminem style. The guy has a genius when it comes to words and rhyming. Impresses me time and time again. I don't think you will find a better rhymer on the planet than Eminem.

current em has lyrically surpassed this song by miles at this point. not only does he endlessly rhyme everything perfectly, but as far as his last two albums (kamikaze & music to be murdered by) it takes 50 listens to catch every metaphor, simile, and triple/quadruple-entendre, and reference. ...the dude is a walking dictionary. every time you play his recent work you catch something that went over your head. and that's why he's not as big as he used to be, because most rap fans these days don't even care about lyrics unless it's about guns, money and hoes. and it has to have the exact same flow, rhythm, and musical structure as everybody on the radio.

Nice breakdown... Syllables are also so so so important to fresh vernacular word play , either way and now-a-days, to stay king of spades you must match rhymes over lines at times and also speed it and slow it down to make sure the lines are proportionate and make sense at the same time to iniolate the enemy while you rapture your audiences minds

+Elvis Shelton not a very ingenious rhyme in my opinion. Firstly it doesn't make any real sense(it just sounds like some arbitrary metaphor), and secondly it's forced. The word "kinda" is just pushed in there in order to make it rhyme with "grinder". It's the equivalent of using the word "smoopid" to rhyme with "stupid".

Crazy how I remembered your eminem and rap lyric break down video and came to this channel now. 7 years ago do you've probably moved on a lot since then in how you like to spend your time, but if you ever wanted to get back to it, I personally would love another kinda rap break down video about absolutely anything you want it to be about, maybe another old eminem song, or maybe looking at UK grime and drill music and seeing how the really good word play rappers from there do it, as it is different from American hip hop.
If you fancy it, check out some UK grime from artists like Dave, Izzie Gibbs, Jay hus, Mostack, Bugzy Malone (my favourite), Chipmunk, Cadet, rapman and see if you fancy looking at how they flow and how they use their accents to create ryming sounds and their ryme schemes, I think you'll find it interesting!
