Thank you! This tutorial is perfect for my Fire Elemental! We need more tutorial with speedpaint like this! Thanks!
Oh yes that would be a great mini to do it on! :)
Speed paints are my favourite paints at the moment so i'm sure there will be an opportunity to do more videos :)
Yes! Looks so good! People tend to do flames very wrong. But this looks amazing!
Thank you so much! I did a Denethor a while back following the forgeworld painted one and after i finished i was like - thats upside down! haha - and i did a PDF guide for it too, looks like i shall be redoing that one lol
Perfect!!! Exactly what I was looking for.
Glad the video could help :):)
Just a quick reminder: Fire/flames are hotter on the "inside", so you shouldn't highlight flames, you should "downlight" them.
Yes definitely, I went with the route of using the moon dust and arid earth on the bottom and in the inside parts of the lower flame near the body. And the odd highlighted but is where the flames break away and you get those whisps :)
I remember at Christmas I had the log fire scene on RUclips on the telly, felt like it kept us warm in the winter haha
@@SwordsandBrushes Fair enough!
right.. flames are blue at the bottom not the tops... lol
Just finished this on some chaos magic guy looks awesome! the black really sales the effect and the APSP blends so nicely. Nice to see someone utilizing reactivation than crying about it
Fantastic! Is it online anywhere, id love to see :)
haha true, i adore the reactivation part of the paints, im using them quite a lot now for a variety of projects!
Great work!! Well done! I’ll make sure to be using this when I get round to my Balrog
Cant wait to see what you come up with! :):)
I'm working on a 1/4 scale ghostrider so I hope to capture the same effect you did
Looks awesome 👌
Very nice video - as always! Thank you
Thank you muchly!! I have a video to bring out this Saturday which will fall in line with whats coming out, and then it's the Balrog video in full! :):)
finally someone who has the speed paint starter set, ive actually got most of the paints mentioned
Its a good set, im enjoying using them :) Just saving the pennies up so i can get the full range set!
This will be very useful for my LOTD, thanks!
Glad it was helpful! :):)
Im so excited to try this. Amazingly helpful vid thank you
Awesome! What fiery beast have you got to paint up? Or are you doing some scenery?
@@SwordsandBrushes iv just bought a conquest Dweghom army with a Herald of Fire and Tempered Sorcerer (basically angry fire dwarfs 😁)
Great video, I am about to paint a Nightmare(flaming horse) for my dnd game! Just what I needed!
Oh sweet I hope that it goes super well for you! 😀 let me know how it goes :)
I got the Frameworks Balor the other day and they have a massive flame whip, it's going to look killer once its done with yoyr advice! Thanks for sharing
Awesome!! i hope that it come out/came out well for you! :):)
Great tutorial as always, good job! ;)
Thank you very much! I thought this one would be good for people that generally want to create some flames, and it was a nice one to do before the big bad Balrog video!
Fantastic stuff there, great job
Thank you very much! Makes me feel warm just by looking at it haha :)
Fantastic video! I will be using this.
Glad it was helpful! :)
Awesome
Nice!
OK, wow...I have to say as I'm getting a bit more practice with my AP Speedpaints, I had not thought of doing flames with them yet, but now I'm sold...the blending worked beautifully and then the final detail touches are still simple yet effective! Thanks for sharing this one! I was also wondering if you'd add the black tips - a lot of folks forget that and it does add that extra bit of realism! Awesome tutorial! Thanks again!
Thank you very much! Yes im really loving these Speed Paints at the moment, i think there is so much that you can do with them.
What have you been painting with them so far?
I try on these tutorials to make them easy to follow and try to give that little it extra in case anyone else want to do the same like the black in this case.
Happy to hear that you like it though! :):)
The maize yellow from army painter speed paint works great for a bright yellow base as well!
Great use of speedpaint.
I friggin love them, theres just so many uses for them, i end up using them on nearly every mini i paint now in one form or another.
Well played Sir!
Next great vid. Next practice tutorial for my Cawdor Boys.
Appreciate it😁👍🏻
Why thank you very much kind sir! :):)
Hope your Cawdor minis go well! Got to say that the Necromunda stuff these days look epic.
Wow that fire came out really well. I kinda want to repaint my balrog now haha. Maybe Ill just buy a new one
Totally just buy a new one, cant have too many i suppose haha
I just got my set and a balrog to paint. Cheers!
Awesome!!! I shall be working on the video for him this week too :):)
He used the reactivation issue as a tool. HERESY! :P
I love them honestly, there are just so many uses for them! :):)
Absolute mad lad!
About to start work on a fire giant. This will be great for his sword.
Amazing! Hope it turned out well for you! :):)
I need to paint Blackjaw from Godtear's burning axe and was hoping to use AP Speedpaints, so this video is absolutely perfect, thanks! :D
Oh sweet!! I hope that it comes out super well for you!! :):)
@@SwordsandBrushes It did! :D
Thanks for this video, I've used it on a fireplace and to paint a wizards clothes, a shame I cannot share pics in here, the results were very good. I'm particularly happy with the wizard's tunic
Awesome :) Glad it helped! If you are on Facebook/insta then find me that way i'd love to see!

@@SwordsandBrushes What's your discord channel. How do I find you?
Excellente tuto ! +1 subscriber
Thank you kindly and welcome to our group here on the channel :):)
Thanks for the tutorial! Will definitely be using this technique. Quick question though; when I use zealot Yellow it's more orange than yellow, any advice on how to make it more yellow? Medium maybe?
hmm interesting, it dries pretty yellow for me, it does have an orangey look when first applied though. Id say go with a touch more medium, at least that will thin it down more in order for the white underneath to come through a bit. Let me know how you get on! :)
@@SwordsandBrushes Thanks for the advice!
Nice vid! Would be interested in more niche-esk ways the speed paints work well with
Thank you so much - and noted! Have you seen the other speed paint vids on the channel so far? and i did a quick one on my kofi page too - there is a fair bit that I covered in those - and i have a few more ideas up my sleeve! :):)
Well I wish I'd seen this before I did my 3 balrogs. Way simpler than my method, Looks amazing and would have saved me so much time lol.
oh i just replied to your other comment - i see you have done 3 :)
Thank you, sometimes i try to make things quicker and/or simpler and other times i go a bit crazy with colours - but i thought it was lots of quick stages with this one :)
What was the method that you chose to go with?
@@SwordsandBrushes Yeh 3 lol but need more for some first age madness. Its honestly so unnecessarily complicated I dont think I would be able to type it out. I have a vid if your interested in how terrible it is. Will defos be using your method for my next ones if I ever get round to it!
so helpful and entertaining in so short a time, great video, thank you! how about ice and frost?
oo thats a great idea, i shall certainly add that to the list - as i have a few ideas about that - i just need the perfect mini to try it on for a future video - any suggestions?
@@SwordsandBrushes i wish i did! its just something ive been wondering about lately, as it is quite a specific effect. Thanks for the reply!
BRB gonna use this to paint the bonfire from dark souls
Hello all, thank you so much for coming to browse this video I really appreciate it.
Here are the paints used in the video today :)
The Fire - basics (spray white)
Speed Paint Zealot Yellow (base)
Speed Paint Fire Giant Orange (layer)
Speed Paint Blood Bowl (layer)
Speed Paint Slaughter Red (layer)
Speed Paint Grim Black (layer)
The Fire - Extended
Uniform Grey (highlight)
Moon Dust (watered down layer)
Arid Earth (watered down layer)
Deputy paint checker - Kevin Roy Myrvang - I remembered! :):)
Its an old video so, longshot ask but I'll try;
How would you recommend doing this for a transparent model (like a DeepCuts elemental or such), would you change the general method or is something special needed?
Oh gosh thats an interesting idea and i've not tried that on a transparent model before.
If i were to try it myself (ad would want to keep some of that transparency) then i would spray matt varnish the model first and then apply the speed paints in a similar method to this video - that way you would get (hopefully) a semi transparent looking flame :)
Could you share the Colour name if I use Citadel and Vallejo bro? Thank you. ❤
I need to know what miniature is that I need it
found this vid , did it on my fyreslayers skin all the creases of the muscles were the hottest parts layered up as in the vid to the very top layer was molten black ash
heavy, probably a very beginner question but i cant really find it anywhere: Do u have any advice regarding how u fix the model or part like that ? It seems like u have it on some kork with a needle ? or what is it ? and then how is the part fixed to taht ? glue ?
Good question and thanks for asking it, with this specific piece it was spare so i didnt need to glue it in the end.
But some of the time having a 'sub assembly' like this is great - especially if its on a complex miniature / or you want to spray different sections with a specific colour.
I drill a small hole (which wont be seen after its glued) and it gets superglued to a bit of paperclip - which then is in a bit of cork to make it sturdy and easier to handle.
Once done i just pop it off and then superglue the parts into place.
Hope that helps! :):)
@@SwordsandBrushes thank u for the response, gonna need to try that out seems super useful !
Really appriciate ur painting tutorials, tried to convey the aspects for some blue flames and it came out rather nice as well :)
Great video again! I'll be off buying a balrog now :D
Totally! they are so much fun - a litle bit gappy so you may need some green stuff or putty, but once thats out the way - it's pure joy! :):)
Would be better if you gave a list of the paint used, that first paint looked like orange and yellow ?
I can try and doing this as a pinned comment for the future, and put the list in there. Hopefully that may work well :)
OK, so I need to do this for a blue fire, now, but I'm struggling to make it work going from white to Magic Blue, which is the lightest blue speed paint, even if I dilute it with medium. :(
Blue fire would be awesome! If you want something a bit lighter than magic blue then definitely mix in some normal paint to alter the colour a bit. I have used both normal acrylic paint and airbrush paint to change the Speed paint colours :)
I reckon even an ink would work too, but have not got any to try it yet
@@SwordsandBrushes Okay, I'll try throwing a bit of white in and see how it goes! Thanks!
@@SwordsandBrushes It worked! Took bloody ages as I had to use way more than three separate shades of blue, but got there in the end. I used the same method of having a dab of black right on the tips, which really sells it.
How much medium!?!?
Depending on how much paint you use, but i tend to go for about a 50/50 mix first and test it out :)
(You guys don't have to use citadel paints. You can use generic garbage paints and cover with a clear acrylic spraypaint to protect the under layers) I've painted miniatures that look way better than some citadel painted miniatures. Information for other poor people.
Awesome suggestion, any products or brands you could suggest - i could give it a go! :)
just as a reminder speedpaint 2 reactivate a lot less so this will not work so well with them.
Seriously dude, this has to stop
You’re constantly ruining my ‘I can’t paint X’ excuses
Well im sorry to be such a helpful soul! haha
What cant you paint and i will put it on my list of 'to do's' - don't say your house...
:)
Great beasts…
I had a feeling you would say that! :)
any chance of a special paints conversion table for citadel paints ? Thanks!!!
