Yes the Groview 818C is the best, but there is a big con with it, they pushed the brightness but used the same fans as older models, which in turn causes screen burn after a few months. It needs faster fans. I know all cheap projectors cause this eventually, but is best to just go straight to laser instead so you never get screen burn. These are cheap but YMMV.
Could've jumped to the end and watched the conclusion. But it was such a great review I watched all the way through. Congrats on the review, now I'm off to buy a projector.
Thanks for another great video! Used your link to buy the Hapron earlier this year as a “why not?” purchase. It’s been very impressive. I have it in my workout room and use it to watch RUclips videos on my stationary bike.
Ordered the Happrun h1 literally yesterday based on your last year's video. Happy though, that it is still in the top of the chart) Thanks for making those outstanding reviews!
Hey, how are you liking the projector so far? I'm thinking of getting it but I see quite a few of the reviews on amazon talk about the grain burn-ins which is concerning me
You are the only youtube reviewer I trust. WAY better than the other paid spokesman who claim to be reviewers. When will we see the 100-200$ range projector reviews?
With the absolutely catatonia inducing marketing schlock that covers any piece of tech's sale page, videos like this an absolute necessity for prospective buyers. Thank you, sir.
As always, an extensive and accurate review. I bought the Happrun near the start of the year and it was perfect for couch gaming with friends. Mine came with a couple of very noticeable marks on the image, for which I had to open it up and clean a few large bits of dust and fibers off the screen with a swab and camera air blower. After that though I havent had a single issue.
Bro you are an absolute legend, I am trying to buy a budget projector and the amount of options on amazon makes it overwhelming, you broke it all down so perfectly. What a goat, thank you man
Thanks for this. I am considering the Groview and will use any affiliate link you send. But my budget is a bit larger, so I was wondering if you have even better ones you would recommend that cost $150 to $250?
The thing people don't talk about when it comes to projectors is the issue with the polarizers getting burned over time due to the heat (even though there's fans), and thus you end up with a big yellowish brown dark spot in the middle of the screen and eventually it gets so bad it covers most of the screen and you lose image quality and brightness (and now there's a big spot on the screen). This happens with pretty much all of these cheap projectors, including the approx 200 to 300 dollar Nexigo that was featured on here not too long ago, which crapped out after a few months so i bought a new LCD screen from china and it worked great again for a couple months and then it started doing the same thing. So just keep in mind, if you get any of these projectors, it's only temporary and won't last but a few months to a year maybe. I've only ever had like 2 cheapo projectors that held up for a good few years, but all the other ones crapped out due to the polarizer issue. Technically one can peel off the polarizer film from the LCD screen with a razorblade, but you have to be careful and do it right or you'll mess things up, but then all you have to do is get new polarizer film and replace the burned one, or maybe see about getting some of that special film that's supposed to be block out a lot of heat that iirc goes on the glass piece before the LCD screen, which may be a good idea seeing as how i've opened up quite a few of these projectors and those glass pieces never have heat-blocking film on them, they're just clear pieces of glass that i assume are there to contribute to the quality of the picture. I love projectors and have used em' regularly for about 15 years now, although with how cheap tvs have gotten recently i think it's about time i go back to tvs, because the projector polarizer thing is annoying.
I almost included a section about that. The thing is that with proper ventilation that will never happen, you can't shove them in a cabinet or put blankets over them. I've run some of these for 1.5months straight, 24 hours a day, never turning them off (for decorations) and they have no degradation.
@@TheHookUp - Yeah i have mine on a wall mount, plenty of ventilation, clean em' regularly, i think they just get too heated. I've usually run mine a few hours a day, sometimes if i've binge watched things then most of the day for a bit, but i rely on projectors for my viewing experience so all of my watching in the last 15 years has been with projectors lol, i do quite like em' but they do definitely need some improvement/advancement which i'm sure will come sooner or later, they've definitely stepped up the last few years are so for sure. Lately i've tried cutting back on the amount of hours i use em', still not much change though. I think in the time to come i'll try tinkering around with some and see if i can improve the air flow and perhaps add some of the "heat resistant" film, it'd be nice if things lasted for a good while but unfortunately our system is set up for obsolescence and temporary goods as opposed to the sturdy products of olden times lol.
Any chance you could calculate the throw ratios in future reviews of these? The manufacturers of these cheap units often don't specify it, and it's not always correct when they do. I just bought the Groview 818C after watching this video, but have to return it because the listing info was inaccurate. It says 120" image at 12.6 feet, but with my 120" screen on the wall of a 14' room, I can't move the projector far enough back to fill the screen. I did double-check to make sure digital zoom was at 0. With the lens a bit over 13' from the screen, the image is only about 112".
Always appreciate the detail you go into in your comparisons, especially regarding the pop-up menus for Halloween decorations. These cheap projectors have come a long way in the last few years. If you ever do an updated $100-$200 comparison, I’d be curious where the WiMiUS K1 stacks up. It’s usually around $130 after coupon, and has potential for making a larger screen size (up to 500”).
There's no way in hell that a 480 ANSI Lumen projector will make a 500" screen remotely watchable, it's gonna be so dim even with a perfectly sealed dark room, and you gonna need a really big room on top of that, since according to the amazon listing the projector is going to have to be 10 meters away from the screen for that size, this is all just marketing bullshit, especially with these cheap models. I just recently bought an LG HF60LS for 560€ and it has 1400 ANSI Lumen and it recommends a 120" screen for the best experience, which is what I have. I used to use a 100€ projector before and had to have my room VERY dark to be able to see on this 120" screen, and it wasn't a very good experience was barely able to see dark scenes in movies, now I can have lights on and I can see perfectly. Also cheap LCD projectors like the one you mentioned, and the one I had, are going to burn up at some point, it happened to mine after little over a year of almost daily use. Honestly, try investing more money in a projector, something with DLP instead of LCD, that is impossible to burn up and is going to last you waaaay longer, and something with at least 1000 ANSI lumen, also a 120" screen is plenty big. But don't get me wrong if you plan to use a screen that is closer to the size of a big TV then yeah, $100 projector like the ones in the video are going to be pretty good, just don't expect them to last too long.
@@theoldtechhandheldtinkerer4092 your handle name fits you well. Honestly the WiMiUS is pretty comparable in brightness to a NEC 3500 ansi lumen LCD projector I have when I project onto my garage. The 500” isn’t far off, it’s the only cheap LED projector I own that actually focuses at that size when I project onto the entire house (which is around 40 ft). I own about 20-25 different protectors ranging from Sharp, NEC, Epson, Sanyo, Sony, viewsonic, 3M, optoma, to various cheap chinese models (yaber, mooka, WiMiUS, unknowns), so I have some experience…
im a newie i want to find a outdoor projector with roku, i don't have fire stick, i have on my tv roku i use a remote for the tv Can i use my remote or i have to get a roku stick
I purchases the Happrun after last years videos and am wowed by everything in the video, for the price the video is unreal, brightness is good enough and so on. But the aux out is absolutely and utterly useless, could not begin to make out voices on my speakers, and when using the inculded speakers they were pretty garbage as well, ended up having to use an HDMI earc dock to get any sound worth listening to out of it. Perhaps it is just my ubit but worth considering.
Thanks for pointing us to the GROVIEW! We looked it up, and the $40 coupon on Amazon has us paying only $100 for this thing. WORTH IT! Thank you so much! (Will come back and comment once we get it and test it out!)
I bought the Haprun earlier this year and it was pretty decent, but i upgraded to a Nexigo PJ40 and relegated the H1 to my bedroom. The H1 does have focus issues beyond 100“, i may have to look into that Groview.
Have the Happrun and it's been fantastic. Just found the Groview JQ818C for $70, so I'm picking that up and will use them in different rooms. Thanks for the great review!
Awesome review! In some of your previous projector reviews you noted whether the projectors supported HDMI-CEC. There are some sub $100 projectors that do support HDMI-CEC and it would be awesome if you had that information. It's great for the holiday lighting community who uses Raspberry Pis and other devices that can schedule turning projectors on and off. Do you know if any of the projectors in this video review support HDMI-CEC?
I just want to thank you for your review and I ended up buying my first projector 📽️ because of you, I bought the GROWVIEW!. Waiting for Amazon to deliver it by 15:00 pst! I wish you and yours the best holiday season ever!!!😊🎉❤
Thank you for all of your hard work. I got the Nexigo PJ40 a few days ago because of your $200-$400 video. I love the image quality on it. I got it for only $200 and I have 30 days to return it. Question 1. Is there something in the $200 to $400 price range that has even better image quality? Size and shape aren't as important. Just overall image quality. Question 2. Will you be doing a $200-$400 comparison video before black Friday?
@TheHookUp And that's my problem right now. I want something thats better than the 300$ range but I don't want to spend a 1000 bucks... That XGIMI used is a good suggestion but the ceiling in my basement is quite low so I don't want to hang it in the middle of the room, which I would need to do because of the XGIMIs throw ratio. My wall is around 5m away... but I don't know if bulb DLP projectors like the BenQ th585p or the Optoma HD146X are any good because there are no really good, trustworthy reviews out there that actually compare them to something in other price classes or other projectors in general...
EXCELLENT JOB. Was just about to ask a question about picture adjustments on a particular projector, and you started answering it. Great Job Buddy. Althought I use high end projectors, I am curious about these products, and never knew about the inside built till today. Wow. I see people make these themselves at home. Thanks. - Toronto, Canada.
I bought the happrun 5 days ago after watching all of your projectors videos. I was ready to return it when I saw this video release, but never mind. I'm happy with the happrun for my bedroom projection 👍 although getting it to focus properly is not an easy task.
I believe the correct formular to calculate the contrast is: Contrast = (Imax-Imin)/(Imax+Imin). The range of the contrast is [0,1]. [See wikipedia Michelson contrast] The formular that you are using (contrast = Imax/Imin) was pushed by marketing people, because 100 sounds mush better than 0.99. And 200 sounds like a lot of improvement in comparison with 100, whereas using Michelson contrast it is 0.98 vs 0.99. And that is how it really feels. Everything above 0.99 is undistinguishable. Other than that, it is a wonderful review. Thank you very much!
I can tell you that is very much not the case. I am in the process of reviewing some very high end projectors and using that calculation every single one has a contrast ratio between 0.9976 and 0.9998 and there is a massive difference between those two. The 0.9976 projector (855:1) easily has 20x less contrast than the 0.9998 one (17818:1).
I bought Happrun H1 thanks to your first video recommendation and ohhhhh boy I am extremely happy with it! There is no lag at all when I play PS5. Brightness is not that bad, it works really good with some lights on.
This was great! Thanks for the awesome review, this was super helpful. I've been looking for a quality budget projector for this year's halloween party, plan to do some outdoor horror movies by the fire pit. I messed up and bought a highpeak mini projector before looking up reviews about it (turns out its a scam for all those wondering).

You should also consider the NY320 projector, it's really cheap aliexpress projector (starts from $50) and I really love picture quality of this thing.
Is there any way to avoid cooking the polarizing film in these cheap projectors? Should it only be used a few hours at a time for example? Is it an accumulative thing that can't be avoided?
This information is awesome. But I would like to know how it gets movie content in a true outdoor setting (i.e. A campsite). I purchased a TMY but cannot use use it due to HDCP. Can you help to provide information on which mini-projector can stream movies?
Thanks for this video man. this is exactly what I was looking for shopping for budget projecters. Input latency and contrast is very important for me so thanks again 👍.

By far the best review video of any class on RUclips… only video worth watching A+++
Ordered the Happrun h1 literally yesterday based on your last year's video. Happy though, that it is still in the top of the chart)
Thanks for making those outstanding reviews!
The 30 second intro was so good I paused at 30seconds, liked and subscribed.
Hey sorry just curious, is it still working fine? Also interested in one of these for gaming.
Thanks!
These guys should pay you, you made me buy the happrun just with this video.
Thanks!
Your rating/comparison was amazing! Can you do a Top 5 for under 300$ beamers? Would be amazing!
Thanks so much for checking input lag! Such a well rounded video
Amazing work man, can't believe you did all this without accepting sponers, thats just beyond amazing!
This is such an amazing video. Thanks to this i bought the Happrun H1.
Also had a few dead pixels, but I would still buy again, just have to consider as well. Unit QC may just be terrible or I got a dud
Interesting. I admit I've never tried to use the Aux out!
Thanks for pointing us to the GROVIEW! We looked it up, and the $40 coupon on Amazon has us paying only $100 for this thing. WORTH IT! Thank you so much! (Will come back and comment once we get it and test it out!)
Very, very good job! Enough background tightly, lots of facts quickly and transparently (how measured / "see yourself").
I bought the Haprun earlier this year and it was pretty decent, but i upgraded to a Nexigo PJ40 and relegated the H1 to my bedroom. The H1 does have focus issues beyond 100“, i may have to look into that Groview.
Is h1 any good?
Have the Happrun and it's been fantastic.
Just found the Groview JQ818C for $70, so I'm picking that up and will use them in different rooms.
Thanks for the great review!
Where did you find it for $70?
Can you tell me where you found it
Amazon Japan. Must have been a refurb or return because there was a small scratch on the lens that is slightly visible when using. :(
As an engineer I really enjoy the thorough, structured and objective reviews. Great job man!!
Wow, what a quality comparison video. You’re the Project Farm of tech.
I’ve never seen a sub $100 projector that supports CEC, none of the ones in this video do.
I just want to thank you for your review and I ended up buying my first projector 📽️ because of you, I bought the GROWVIEW!. Waiting for Amazon to deliver it by 15:00 pst!
I wish you and yours the best holiday season ever!!!😊🎉❤
Was losing hope a revision video wasn't going to come
I'll continue to make them each year!
Question 2. Will you be doing a $200-$400 comparison video before black Friday?
the PJ40 is still my recommendation in that price category. The higher budget video will be $200-600 and will be in February.
Thanks for the reply and info. You're a legend!
You are amazing Guy!
This was one of the best video I have seen about projectors… thank you
There's so many new options, when's round 2?! Also would like to see $100-$200 options as well. Great vid!
I want a 400$ - 700$ round up so bad!
That's such a tough price point for projectors. If that's your budget then ebay is your best bet, shoot for a xgimi horizon or horizon pro.
XGIMI Horizon Ultra has zoom, not sure you'll find it under $1000 for a little while though.
@@TheHookUp Here in Germany there are two Horizon Pros for 650€ used. Might get that one or a th575
You get a sub- love what you’re doing man! For the people
This mf spittin.
Actually felt like commenting cause this man put in the work. Great Job!
Thank god for nerds
Such a high quality video , I bought groview jq818c with your link. You helped me decide greatly thank you very much
Wowza - incredibly impressive attention to detail - with hands-on experience and accurate measurements - bravo, sir!
I love your videos!!! Although I haven't bought any projector myself but your videos are very informative and fair. More power to you!
Holy cow! THIS is how a quality review is done! Bravo!
Just ordered the Groview using your link. Thanks!
I bought the happrun 5 days ago after watching all of your projectors videos.
I was ready to return it when I saw this video release, but never mind.
I'm happy with the happrun for my bedroom projection 👍
although getting it to focus properly is not an easy task.
I believe the correct formular to calculate the contrast is:
Contrast = (Imax-Imin)/(Imax+Imin).
The range of the contrast is [0,1]. [See wikipedia Michelson contrast]
The formular that you are using (contrast = Imax/Imin) was pushed by marketing people, because 100 sounds mush better than 0.99.
Literally was looking to get a projector and you post this today 🙏🙏🙏
Yaaay a new projector comparison video my absolute favorite 💙
I bought Happrun H1 thanks to your first video recommendation and ohhhhh boy I am extremely happy with it! There is no lag at all when I play PS5. Brightness is not that bad, it works really good with some lights on.
This was great! Thanks for the awesome review, this was super helpful. I've been looking for a quality budget projector for this year's halloween party, plan to do some outdoor horror movies by the fire pit. I messed up and bought a highpeak mini projector before looking up reviews about it (turns out its a scam for all those wondering).
The thought put into this is truly exceptional and made me completely rethink my future purchase! Ty for the in depth analysis of all these!
Yo, thx for the update! We were having a dialogue a few weeks ago and I mentioned how a vid like this would be helpful.
Really broke it all down for me in a way I can easily understand, thank you
This has been so valuable for me. Thank you very much for your honest and extensive review!
Cheap projectors are such an underrated gem. People have no idea how awesome they are.
What an excellent video at explaining all of this man. I used your link and hit you with a sub too. This video saved me a headache and a bad decision lol. Thank you for using your own money to buy all of that jazz and for also doing analytical comparisons like a pro.
WOW!! Amazing review! 100% locked in the projector I'm going to buy 🙏 Very detailed and just enough information to not be too overwhelmed. Thank you and excited for the 2024 review 😎😎
Thanks for this round up! my wife had a rando one on her xmas list, was able to snag that recomended groview one for 89 bucks on black friday.
ahhhmazingggg... wish i could give you a hug in person ! amazing work .keep it up
top review 🎉 i have Groview 818c and decided to buy aurora pro. You re the best!
This information is awesome. But I would like to know how it gets movie content in a true outdoor setting (i.e. A campsite). I purchased a TMY but cannot use use it due to HDCP. Can you help to provide information on which mini-projector can stream movies?
This guy is saving me so many hours of research.
Thanks for this video man. this is exactly what I was looking for shopping for budget projecters. Input latency and contrast is very important for me so thanks again 👍.
Thank you very much,
I started my adventure with the cheapest Happrun H1 which is sold in Europe as Topvision and it is actually a very good choice, I am surprised by its quality and lack of lag in games. It is more than I expected.
I was hoping you would use Calman to give us more accurate color info this time around.
You make the best vids! No bs blah blah, just the facts. I've had several led projectors. ALL BROWNED OUT. By that I mean the lcd filter got hot leaving an ever growing blob. I live in The Yucatan and it gets hot. My house is 90 degrees most of the time. No AC. I'm wondering if you knew of a cheapo
90 degrees with no AC? Yikes. Lots of LED DLP projectors coming out in the next couple months.
I got my Happrun native 1080last year. I'm happy
