Not related to this movie in particular, but Dreamworks is supposedly having a financial crisis of sorts. Kung fu panda 4 would come from their need to make a less risky investment to help recovery, not that the company is doing very well right now.
Personally? I think it wasn't a bad movie, maybe fans just overhyped it to me. And I feel like its missing some keypoints. And I was pretty angry when Po chose Zhen as Dragon warrior but then I realised that it came a full circle. Zhen is not somone who you could imagine as a Dragon warrior due to her past but like so was Po (I realised it after somone's wrote it on one of the you tube videos about kfp4) the only thing that I disagree with how they handled Chameleon, I would have loved it if they made her have some depth, but she doesn't even feel evil. Also lack of furious 5 was very sad, I feel like people forgot that it was the 5 that inspired Po. And they were his friends, I would really want to See interactions between Zhen and The 5. Their distrust to a Fox thief turning into understanding.
It’s way better than Megamind 2. It’s a passable movie too. It’s sad we didn’t get to see more of furious 5 but I do hope in in kung fu panda 5 we get the furious 5.

Kung Fu Panda 4 was a good movie but the only thing I would change is bring back all of the voice actors from the previous films especially the villains I will change the ending to Lord Shen and Kai were fighting against Poe and in Tai lung comes in and say it is the only one that can defeat you is me and then Lord Shen and Kai get destroyed and sent back to the spirit realm and then Tai lung would be choose as the dragon warrior and zhen is not characters in the new movie where at in the end the furious five are mad at home by choosing Tai lung as the dragon warrior shifu was surprised to Tai lung say change of heart and this will be a moment where shifu and Taiwan will finally be bonded like as father and son
Tai Lung should absolutely never be a dragon warrior. The whole point of the first movie was about understanding and accepting who you are instead of trying to become something you are. If Tai Lung got rid of his ego , he would have understood that he doesn't need a dragon warrior title to be who he is already - he has no use of it. Zhen is important to have, because Po needs a new clean apprentice that he can share his skills and wisdom with to develop his character arc of spiritual leader.
@bignoseman3031 She was the best candidate in the first movie too, but Po was chosen over her anyway, so why would it be a problem now? Also, people say that Tigress has the same anger/ego issues over the title as Tai Lung, so she doesn't think it is a good idea either. Don't know how right or wrong this point is, but many people said it. Edit: also the issue why Po didn't chose her is because she was a master to him for quite some time, which means he can't have same teacher-student relationship as Po + Shifu/Oogway, which could be really useful to develop plot. He doesn't have much left to teach Tigress.
You know. I say Kung Fu Panda 3 is vindicated by history because that movie has a lighter and softer tone compared to the first two movies as well as having a more generic villain.

@SullivanDLuffy I am smoking my own personal opinion that I have a right to be entitled to. The Chameleon had a closer connection to the main characters better than Kai did. Kai was defeated too easily at the end, while Po and Zhen genuinely struggled fighting The Chameleon. Ping and Li didn't interact enough in 3, while 4 gave them many fun scenes together.
And the saddest thing is: I ACTUALLY LIKE ZHEN! I mean she wasn't perfect but it's clear there was a good character somewhere in her design and process. But she should never be the Dragon Warrior. I think it would have been great that Po chose Tai Lung to be the Dragon Warrior.
HOW? She's a bland stereotypical annoying girl character that rags on the male main character just to seem better and representational, her sheer existence was based around a mcguffin, boring back story that NO ONE CARES ABOUT, weak motivation if you could even call it that and simply a reboot of other characters in the franchise, even her design was basic AF they put no effort into making a deep character like Po or Tigress and just wanted a new marketing face

Alright real talk. The kfp4 had to compete with two of the best animated ever created (kfp1-2). They cought lightning in a jar which is insane that it happened twice back to back. As someone who just watched the movie: It was like kfp 3 but the plot was weaker. Every other aspect of the movie mirrors the old ones. The animation and choreography are as elaborate and amazing as ever and the soundtrack remains strong by Hans Zimmer. I wouldn't personally call it "mid". I would call it a good movie but not anywhere near a masterpiece. It's entertaining from start to finish even if it has some plot problems. Clearly the hype was too powerful for the 4rth move. The studio didn't deliver as much as they hoped while at the same time the fans expected a cult classic which made the taste even more sour.

Truth be told I had no expectations for KFP4 since the saga ended perfectly with the 3rd movie, so a 4th movie didn’t need to exist.
