- India has had her share of famous physicians and surgeons, yet the statistics bear a dismal picture- females still have a lesser share, especially in Surgery.
Dr. Veena Singh dissects the root of the problem while sharing her own story and discusses how this problem can be addressed at multiple levels - society, family and work environment. She believes that all in all it is one's passion and commitment towards her career that sees all adversities through.
An esteemed member of the Faculty Development Programme of AIIMS Patna. Coming from a family that questioned every decision she made saying it was "reserved for boys", she is a proof that an individual's gender can't be a barrier for their choice of profession. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
The ratios are changing… when I was in 2nd or 3rd year there were only 1-2 female Surgery Residents in my college, in fact there are literally Zero Female Professor/ AP in surgery department…but when I became an Inter, suddenly the scenario has been changed! And now almost 40-50% JRs are female in Surgery Dept. It was really a very good change for once.
Thank you ma’am for telling the world such an inspiring journey of yours. 🙏🏻

We say we are liberated as a society...and we don't discriminate on the basis of gender.....but it happens every single day all over the world...in small ways and big....it's important to accept that and stop gender based discrimination whether happening consciously or even subconsciously....
The first step is to accept that bias happens and then to actively suppress conclusions based on them

Doctor never choose the surgery

This is not the primary issue to be discussed. Are you willing to bring up your girl child exactly like a boy child. There starts the discrimination.
Indian girl child is always brought up with fear , inferiority and prejudice.
Subsequently always men are selected out.
You should in fact focus on the denied privileges of a girl child in India.
It looks and sounds good but not Good for the student or doctor, people must think logically for a long term
