I understand why nesta is not likeable. But that's why i like her most. She's not 1 dimentional goodie two shoes character that always try to make everything better. I like that she's going through her emotional distress and not always choose a right decision. It capture the psychological impact of war, violance, survival and had your whole live changed in the blink of an eye.

People can say what they want but I've loved Nesta since acotar, did i think she was mean? Yes, but I've been there, I knew from the beginning that she was dealing with something. Nobody's mean just because. So ready for this acosf deep dive. 😁

I commented on a ACOTAR episode that I wasn't able to get into Silver Flames and only read the first few chapters. On reflection, I think I wasn't ready to move on from Rhys and Feyre at the time, having just read all the other books back to back. I wanted more of their story, not Nesta's, who I didn't even like.
After listening to all the mentions of Silver Flames throughout your previous deep dives, it was teaser enough to get me to give Silver Flames another try leading up to these episodes. I'm much more open to Nesta's story now, a year later, because I've had time & distance from Rhys & Feyre. I just got to Part 2! It probably won't be my favorite, but I'm more invested in finishing it now.

I really appreciate your introduction. Rather than being consumed by her past experiences, Nesta finds support from her new friends, and even from the house itself, as she embarks on a journey to discover her place and purpose.

I have been hesitant about whether or not I wanted to follow along this coverage since I have been sludging through this book since February of this year and can't seem to make it the first few chapters. I know the major things that happen later in this book since I don't really care about spoilers regarding this series, but even knowing that a lot of people seem to change their minds about Nesta hasn't encouraged me to make much progress. I'm interested to see if going along with FFG will give me the will to finally finish it once and for all. I love the Empyrean FFG coverage, but haven't really listened to any of the ACOTAR episodes. I took a couple months break from trying to make myself read acosf, so I hope that palate cleanser helps me keep a more open mind. I'm not going into this expecting to fall in love with Nesta, but I will be happy to at least be able to understand her a bit more and make peace with her character.

about the paintings in the River House...Nesta would have RIPPED Feyre apart if there was a painting of her. All of Feyre's insecurities are in Nesta's voice. Why would she put her vulnerability into something that would be torn down. Maybe even literally knowing Nesta at the beginning. Also, maybe Feyre could see that Nesta was in a pit of self loathing and knew her sister would not want to be immortalized as that person.
Cassian the Courtier - Rhys said in ACOFAS that there were strings he would need pull to get things in motion. I think Rhys having Cassian work on this is to get Cassian to realize he is worthy and capable and not just a "bastard brute"

I bet Feyre has either painted Nesta but won’t hang those until their relationship is better, or she can’t bring herself to paint Nesta because of their strained relationship.

I feel like Nesta is extremely easy to sympathize with. When you feel like the world is out to get you, you’re going to lash out. I also really don’t like how the inner circle handled the situation. In all honesty, this book made me turn on them a little bit.
But again, Nesta is the most relatable character I’ve ever met in a book so I’m probably biased here.

Same! I can’t relate to them talking about it will hard to be on her side in these first few episodes. I think the inner circle handled this situation horribly and even if they claim it isn’t it was definitely them trying to punish Nesta for not dealing with her trauma the way they wanted her to.

@@taylorrichards2473 honestly that’s how I read it as well! I’m not sure exactly what they could have done different but it didn’t sit well with me. Maybe if it would have been just Cassian and Feyre it would have been a bit better?

Most interventions go the way of Nesta's. The person that is the subject is pulling out all the claws and teeth and knives because they feel they are being attacked and they are doing just fine and I'm sure Nesta feels this way. But the people staging the intervention really do have the best interest of the person in mind and are nervous about the result and what will be said. Feyre and Elain loved their sister even as complicated and nasty as she has been up to this point. So tough love for Nesta and the nerve to do it for Feyre and Elain. Nesta has never been a warm and fuzzy person; she wasn't raised to be. Feyre is a warm person and has to put that aside to hopefully get through to Nesta so Nesta can find a way to deal with events since going into poverty and make peace or acceptance with events until this point. This has been building for YEARS!

I think it's so valuable to acknowledge different perspectives as youve done here. (You're fabulous!) I enjoyed the book but I do not like her character, and to be honest Nesta is the first fictional main character I have ever strongly disliked, despite having empathy for her, and I will probably remain in my dislike, doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the book or the writing or that people cannot disagree :)

I agree about the narrator for this book. Stina Neilson is great in the From Blood and Ash books, but I just didn’t think she got the sharp edges of Nesta in that version. That said, I love who voices Nesta in the Graphic Audio. She’s fantastic.

I really hope that SJM listens to everyone’s feedback about the spice. It definitely took me out of the book sometimes bc of how often it was there. I’m not a huge spice lover especially since I listen to audiobooks a lot and I feel like I do a lot of “skip 15 seconds” I’m glad I read it physically the first time.

My theory is always been that Rhysand is the most powerful high Lord because he has high lord powers, and the star born Fae because a distant relative was married to the princess (Thea) that married a high Lord son. he got the star born fae power. That would also track with how Mor’s portion of the family used to be high Lord, but then Thea married a high lords son say Rhysand ancestor and the power went there because Rhysand ‘s line has the star born power plus thehigh Lord power.

So I'm on my third reread, I'm finally listening to the graphic audio. I've read TOG twice. Doesn't Kaltain have silver flames when she destroys Morath? I have no idea the timeline, it's very confusing with the world's being layered but there has to be a connection there unless I'm mistaken about what Kaltain did.

Gosh, am I the only one that liked all the extra smut? Lol #nestaismyspiritanimal Hear me out - Nesta is obsessed with smutty romance books, so it falls in line that a book focused on her development would contain more spice. I was pleasantly surprised I didn’t have to read 3/4 of the book to get to the “good stuff”! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I have the Graphic Audio version on repeat (highly recommend it!), I could probably almost recite the darn book by now 😂

The ad at the beginning of the stream/episode is a bad idea. Put it after your introduction and content warnings instead. New viewers may get the 'this is nothing of ads channel" and click away. Space out the seconds ad (or significantly shorten it). If you are adding more ads to increase revenue you may be better off raising your rates for in episode ads and charge much much higher rates for premium placement.

I cannot believe people think the ultimatum was too far when Nesta was using OTHER PEOPLE’s FUNDS! lol
If Nesta was working her own job (with the court or without the court in the city or something) then yes, Nesta has a right to spend her money the way she wants to even though I would hurt as her family member for her self
deprecating like that. But it would have to be a different meeting.
But since homegirl was using all their money to live like this and harm herself… yeah NO!

I think you are looking at war strategy and political strategy as the same thing when it comes to Cassian. And I don't think it is. I think we see this with Tamlin. He was trained in war camps, he is a warrior at heart and that does not make him good at politics. I think there is definitely strategy when it comes to both, but the strategy is very very different. I don't think it's far fetching to be very good at one, and not the other.

Here me out... what if.. Nesta stole SPECIFICALLY the Asteri power out of the Cauldron? We know from CC that the Asteri "poured" their powers into the cauldron in order to change it into what it is now. Nesta is reborn as a "newborn star", theia became a starborne fae after stealing vesperus's magic after "trapping" her which we know is... STARLIGHT. Lastly, it would explain the 8 pointed star that both her and bryce share. Dusk court was the Asteri Palace 👀?? CRAZY?? I know lmao

I debated skipping your Silver Flames episodes because I do not like Nesta, and Silver Flames is my least favorite book. But I know from your past episodes that you girls will be fair, and you always give "Ls" where they are deserved even if it's characters you love. And maybe you will give me another perspective that I haven't thought of. Listening with an open mind! My thoughts going into it are that I do not like Nesta. I did not find character development in this book for her like so many others have said they have. I don't think feeling bad about yourself is an excuse to treat other people bad. You can't take your issues out on other people. She abused Feyre her whole life. Feyre literally went 20 years without being and feeling loved. I think SJM only put the child birth death in the plot as a way to redeem Nesta and I feel like it just fell flat, and also made many people hate Rhys. Nesta waited until her sister was on her deathbed to be nice to her, and that doesn't feel genuine to me. Like I said, listening with an open mind, but doubtful that I'll change my mind about Nesta. But I want to listen for future book theories!
