Honestly, I can RELATE, I mean R E L A T E. I got an opportunity to do a qualitative research in my psychology programme 2 months ago. I was freaking out because it was a great opportunity but I had never done a research before, let alone qualitative....I was working so much on it (probably burnt out a bit in the process) BUT I WON in one competition and then went to international conference and WON THE 2ND place! Love this! My opinion on imposter syndrome is that if you ever feel like you don't belong somewhere, then you are needed there. Thank you for the inspiration and for everything you do!
Not me crying the ENTIRE VIDEO!!! Chillllleeeee this has been me. But when I start saying that I go into prayer that helps quiet the noise to give it to God. And speaking words of affirmation. I am worthy, I am going to do great things, and my failures lay the path to my future!!!
@@RachelSouthard Thank you so much!!!!! You are WORTHY!! All that you’ve been through is not in vain! God is using your story and testimony to help those around you. We love and appreciate you for your transparency. Soon loading rising MS1! Love ya girl
Rachel Southard, you are a beautiful human and you deserve the world. Thank you for always being so genuine and vulnerable, we love you for it and so will your patients :)
your a gem. I think you were the first medical student I ever watched and it was about four years ago. You have made the whole process seem realistic on becoming a physician. Without that I am not sure I would have felt as I did towards this profession, and I am pleased to say that I have been pre-accepted into a local medical school as a high school senior. I have loved watching you go through this process and I hope I can find my rhythm as well as you have :)
Thank you for everything Rachel, you really deserve all the good things happening to you. Rosies chasing all the cats and squirrels she’s showing you how happy she is
Not going by your thumbnail and jumping onto any conclusions, I know you are made for this field, you have literally just grown so much all of these years in the med school. Above all we all are very much inspired by you. Lots of strength to you :) Hope you have less tiring days and more inspiring days :)
Loved this vlog! I lost my family dog of 14 years recently and ever since, this monarch butterfly has been flying around our house every single day💗 she’s definitely letting you know she’s okay:)
Oh the Rosie part made me cry, I can’t imagine what you’re feeling. I’m so proud of you and I’m so glad Rosie had you. ❤️🌹you’re doing amazing!! Side note- I got all A’s this semester snd I have never done that before lol but I set a goal for myself and I can’t believe I did it.. definitely feeling like I didn’t deserve those grades, but know deep down I do
you are my comfort person Rachel thank you for being so amazing and inspiring me to continue believing in myself. Med school is hard and we all need someone who is there to comfort us!
Thank you Rachel for always being very transparent and reminding us that it is indeed okay to be human and feel negative at times. Feeling reassured knowing that even someone like you (who I look up to) may go through similar feelings. Keep doing what you're doing, you don't even know how much you're helping others by sharing your journey. (P.S. I'm currently wearing my new Herd Varsity Crewneck while watching this video and lemme tell you, it is SO warm and cozy).
Two years later and the theme still remains, we gotta choose what do we want to believe and do seriously effort in looking for the right perspective, is a daily battle, but a necessary one, we have to go for it, persevere and win.
I love this perspective! Moving for med school in a week and I’m on an emotional rollercoaster! Terrified, excited, wondering why I thought I could do this, but also eager to start. Thank you for validating others on this journey!
So sorry about your puppers but absolutely that squirrel and cat was a sign!! I love this vlog, imposter syndrome is a symptom for pushing harder and working outside the box!!
Thank you for sharing this vlog! It speaks volumes to my soul!!! I’ve had this “issue” of feeling I’m not good enough or like I’m in a dream. I’m taking my Nclex and I’ve followed you throughout my Nursing school journey and I’m so glad you are reiterating that it’s normal. I’ve had so many wonderful opportunities and reaffirming moments that although I may not think I deserve the opportunity to care for those in their most vulnerable states of life it’s been my dream and calling and it’s finally here and my hard work is paying off. I value your channel and the motivation you share with me and many others. Take care! I would trust my family and loved ones in your care just based off of how much of yourself you’ve devoted yourself to journey in medicine. Best of luck!
Hey:) Just wanted to say that a lot of people loved Rosie ( 206K at least:)) ) and cared for her. she’s most certainly happy up there, chasing all the squirrels and cats! Sending my love to you and your family❤️
I know you haven't failed too many exams but I am currently in PA school and failed my summative exam and am now a delayed graduate. I feel like this means that I do not know enough to safely care for patients. The imposter syndrome is insane as I watch all my classmates graduate on time.
I was at an event the journalism college (I'm not a journalism major but it sounded interesting so I went) at my school held a month or two back and Dr. Jelani Cobb (super distinguished and incredibly smart and talented journalist and professor, definitely look into his work) was speaking. At one point in the talk, he started talking about imposter syndrome and said something that will likely stick with me for the rest of my life and will probably help me get through undergrad, med school, and residency and hopefully it can help anyone who reads this: "If you have imposter syndrome or feel like you don't belong, that likely means you're exactly where you're supposed to be because true imposters don't feel that way"
First off, My condolences to you and your family for Rosie. Im sure she was such a sweet soul. Second, I just want to appreciate that you decided to touch on this topic, especially since we all have been here and may still be! Im still in undergrad, and struggle with imposter syndrome DAILY for the simple fact of being a first generation college student. It’s so inspiring to hear your words of wisdom. You are awesome Rach, keep pushing!!! 🐜❤️🐜❤️
I really appreciate this vlog and your chat about imposter syndrome because I've been there and I know that feeling of not being worthy of a great opportunity that is there because of your hard work. Btw I'm not a medicine student (I study meteorology), but I enjoy your vlogs because you work hard and that is a motivation for me and other students. Thanks for being you!!!
Rachel!!! Your videos honestly always make my day. You’re such a huge inspiration, and we’re all so excited to see where your path takes you. Congrats on all the audition rotations! They are so well deserved! I’m so sorry about Rosie; that was definitely a sign from her telling you she’s okay and loves you :’) 💕
i loved this video (like i do all) but it felt really really wonderful to hear that about imposter syndrome because even in my undergrade i have days or i look back on classes i took and i really questioned my worth. Love you Rachel
This is such a great point and can relate to so many situations! I need this before my Monday hospital shift! THANK YOU! and sorry to hear about Rosie.
i have felt major imposter syndrome this year of school and playing collegiate softball. My first year playing I had no playing time and no opportunities vs. my sophomore year getting praised for my hard work and getting more opportunities. I felt major imposter syndrome like how did I go from a bench player to someone with an important role on the team. I didn’t feel I deserved it especially since most of my friends are starters. I would tell my friends I am feeling imposter syndrome and they would not understand at all. Thank you for making this video and helping me understand what I was feeling.
Whenever you feel imposter syndrome, you should take a look at your very first videos. I watched a few the other day and it makes me happy to see how far you’ve come. It’s been fun and inspiring watching! Look at your last day at work getting ready to leave for MEDICAL SCHOOL! Some people including me would die for that experience !
