Sorry for using pictures of old Tarkin when talking about him as a kid, the youngest images of him are when he was in his 40s during the clone wars. The downsides of making videos based solely on books.
I don't know what's funnier the fact that he was a full-blown sociopath being manipulated by an even worse sociopath or that he met his death on the death star, the ultimate expression of the ideology of fear he believed in.
Mr. Man but it was used as a terror weapon so your argument is invalid. How something is used and the consequences of using it is all that matters. Or as the saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I found it ruclips.net/video/1_ZQxoJJJM4/видео.html
Ian Williams They just literally told you his backstory. Also, TCW and the Tarkin novel, not to mention Rogue One. Not much room for a movie, don't you think?
solitude guard because there are no pictures of his father and doud looks like someone who could be tarkins father I'm pretty sure they know it's fron dishonored they just wanted to visualise it better
Its interesting that even Tarkin's callous outlook was fueled by his conscience. He was determined to bring about peace through fear in order to stop greater evils like the pirates who attacked that village. Of course that doesn't make him right, though.
Josh Dodge In his eyes (and in the eyes of most imperials and people's of the core world), rebels are terrorists who murder innocents imperials workers and citizens, blows up space stations and ships, bring havoc to peaceful cities and overall destroy the balance of order created by the Empire.
Twilight Sparkle Yeah. Also don't get fooled by the movie's depiction if the rebel alliance. Usually, rebels executed unarmed and surrendering imperials viciously and without reason, or tortured them horribly before killing them. Even the less extreme (most rebels cells were extremists anyway) committed tortured against imperials officers, or sent them to hellish secrets prisons (basically, space terrorist secret death camp). Imperials had some mercy, rebels had none, they were bloodthirsty sociopaths
Interesting. I knew some rebels did that (I mean, Saw Gerrera) but I didn't know it was the norm. Obviously, though, Mon Mothma was the face of the Rebellion and she didn't approve of that sort of thing, so anyone who engaged in it would have been in defiance of Rebel command. I doubt that's how the Imperials saw it though. No wonder they called them Rebel scum.
Josh Dodge Greater evils? He destroyed an entire planet! Millions must have been executed by the empire because they would not bend to an oppressive system. No matter what his intentions were, he undoubtedly lost sight of them, tried to justify the atrocities he committed by saying something worse would have happened otherwise without actual evidence that that would be the case. I'm not saying this to say he is a badly designed character, quite the opposite actually, because there are people that share this way of thinking and try to justify the horrible things they have done. It adds another layer to his character.
HolyknightVader999 What is your point? 3 of the best novels in canon were written by Claudia Grey and they too are subherb but she never wrote for the old EU.
Hans Landa has the same quality to him; they can put the screws to you without laying a hand on you or even raising their voices. Pure force of personality.
HolyknightVader999 Actually the picture of the dad (0:50 they) were from a video game called Dishonored. EDIT: The other picture was also from dishonored as well.
Palpatine Vader and Tarkin had much in common. All three were born on the outer rim and had hard childhoods that hardened their character. They hated the republic, despised their inhabitants (especially the core worlds) as complacent, frivolous and weak. When they had power, they applied that had learned, considering that fear of force was the only thing that could maintain order.
Excellent work today, my friend! It's greatness doesn't just lie within this particular topic, but your explanation & storytelling were spot on! I've been curious about Tarkin's story for a long time now since he's the third most dangerous Galactic Imperial in the whole empire, with only Darth Vader & Emperor Palpatine ranking higher in the hierarchy. Tarkin is very much the "Himmler" of the Galactic Empire, yet his character is often overlooked and unexplored in terms of his value to the empire's war machine.
I kinda liked the story of how the Emperor manipulated him to belive the rebels killed his son and that's how he became so cold and evil a bit more, but this still really good exploration of Tarkin's character
Great video! I'm currently reading the Tarkin novel and definitely on the chapter to where he undergoes lessons in hunting and survival as a rite of passage. Having grown up on Eriadu must've taught him fear of loss is certainly a real thing. Tarkin could've gladly told that story to Anakin/Vader as a way of how loss in a world without absolute order and peace can leave bruises on one's pride and way of life. Despondent, it is. Great video! 🙂😀👍📚
I like the backstory for Tarkin. It makes sense and explains why he wasn’t a little bitch like so many other officers who were simply products of the academy system. (See also Thrawn.)
Dark Vader is my favorite villain, I sometimes feel like Vader, I used to be in top health with unlimited stamina”until that dark day of becoming diabetic” Now all I feel is pain and torment, the more pain I endure, the angrier I become. Sometimes I think, this is it, my day to finally die, only to bare the disappointment of surviving, Due to all my diabetic complications I do not live a normal life.... I don’t call this living, This in only existing, not allowed to die and not allowed to live.
To keep them from feeling affection which could lead them down a path to the dark side if something bad happened. Also affection could blind someone from doing the right thing and instead doing what could help the spouse.

Tarkin is like the Rogrigo Deturte of star wars. What a bad ass!

Tarkin: "Lol."
Tarkin: "I have good news and bad news for you then, the good news is you won't be going to jail, now or ever again."
You will go to nice Sunny place. Bad news you are out of suncream. Good news you will not need it really.
Tarkin: "git gut noobs"
Kirn lol
Tarkin: “Too bad you won’t live to do it.”
This great man reduced unemployment on Alderaan to zero
And Alderaan itself if you think about it
He cleaned up all of Alderaan´s chemical weapons in a few secs, truly a man of the people.
Not to mention crime, poverty and a whole array of other social problems.
Also now there are no people starving there either.
No pedos either
I don't know what's funnier the fact that he was a full-blown sociopath being manipulated by an even worse sociopath or that he met his death on the death star, the ultimate expression of the ideology of fear he believed in.
masterblasterT47 how ironic
He was to cocky with the death star as in rouge one
The Death Star one is funny.
Mr. Man but it was used as a terror weapon so your argument is invalid.

masterblasterT47 It was made to fight to yuuzan vong shithead.
I love Peter Cushon playing the role of Tarkin. He looks menacing and fitting as an Imperialist.
ChouMakaimura his sunken in cheeks due to his age made him even look better when we saw him in Star Wars.
I'm related to him. He was my grandmother's cousin
Lucky...

So that's why Tarkin was so badass when he talking with Darth Vader)
the two where basically on the same page as ideology goes
And that was also why Darth Vader respected him so much.

Tarkin: A Star Wars Story
Who would want this?
I would. And I think Jason Isaacs should play the younger Tarkin.
It would not make enough revenue I think it would be cool too see though

as long as they do it justice and dont sodomize it like they did with the latest shit.
Just want to point out that the picture used for Tarkin's father is Doud from Dishonored.

Tarkin has always been someone I admired within the Star Wars Universe and now I have even more respect for him.
As It is Said....Evil isn't Born it's Created
"Darkness isn't a light switch, it's a journey"- Young Lex Luthor, Smallville
Tarlo The Boar He’s not really evil
unless you are Sidious or Vitiate
Unless you a Force-User.
Eeyup, but there are exceptions.
Tarkin's story deserves its own mini series.
The Tarkin novel was god tier
Totally
That's because one of the Expanded Universe writers wrote it.
HolyknightVader999 What is your point? 3 of the best novels in canon were written by Claudia Grey and they too are subherb but she never wrote for the old EU.
HolyknightVader999 Yeah, I love Luceno and all but I don’t see how your comment was relevant
Really? 3 of the best?
Tarkin and Thrawn are hands down the best characters in this franchise imo
shame they are imperials.
Sebas G That is even better tbh
I would say Darth Plagueis, Revan, or Obi-Wan. Thrawn and Tarkin are pretty great though.
Khajiit Lynx what about yularen?
Two of the three coldest and most calculating characters in Star Wars.
It's no surprise that he can stand his ground with Sith Lords and assassins.
Hans Landa has the same quality to him; they can put the screws to you without laying a hand on you or even raising their voices. Pure force of personality.
In one of the comic series Tarkin took on Darth Vader in a deadly game of cat and mouse and I think he won...
So basically Tarkin's family was like House Tarly from Game of Thrones.........
HolyknightVader999 except they didn't have a fat son
LOL, yes, they didn't have a fat son who was more at home with books instead of weapons.
I don't know, Tarkin's father sounds a lot like Tywin Lannister. So does Tarkin himself. I don't know that I'd like being Tarkin's daughter.
HolyknightVader999 Actually the picture of the dad (0:50 they) were from a video game called Dishonored.
EDIT: The other picture was also from dishonored as well.
L
Tarkin, Star Wars’ Tywin Lannister.
The Death Star = Gregor Clegane.
Except way more cold and badass
Exactly
Tarkins dad looks like Daud from Dishonored
Those Portraits also closely resembled the Dishonored artstyle.
6 brony iv found this week... Why me
Tariko Duarte also that's alot of liberty prime videos
That's because The Lore Master used some concept art from dishonored. Those aren't his actual parents
Tariko Duarte ikr
Tarkin was Light Yagami? So he had a death note in his youth and a death star in his old age. daaaaamm
For real, he wants anything that has to have the word "death" in the name that's a powerful weapon. And that thumbnail too godamn.
more like he was Ciel Phantomhive 2:38
abie pratama Woah now that's close, from Black Butler.
he used to be a anime child... that's rough.
Tarkin was not born bad guy,he was fighting for what he belived in.
Gerardo Reyes Bad and good is subjective. Tarkin on the other hand focused on what really matters: Order and Peace, and he was really successful
Gerardo Reyes thought u said farkin
The path to hell is paved with good intentions
Really? If morality is truly subjective, then you must concede that murder, rape, and all crime is completely fine under every circumstance.
Like all the other bad guys.
Tarkin's dad looks like someone from Dishonored
Dauddy
They used a deviant art image of Daud.
Palpatine Vader and Tarkin had much in common.

How harsh was it in the original timeline?
Jake Rutigliano everything was way harsher in the old EU
He burned alive a crowd of hundred of protesters with the thrusters of his cruiser during the Clone Wars.
Now that's a way of Crowd Control
A little too much effective, maybe ?
Well, he did need to takeoff...
What is he, an anime character?
2:36
Yep
Caris Adryia ye that’s ciel lol
What makes Tarkin truly evil is how thoroughly he embraced his family's heritage and took it far further than they ever did.

My favorite Star Wars villain. No magic tricks or Jedi nonsense. Yet this same man held the yoke of Vader.
That pirate handling was metal as fuck.
When I saw the thumbnail, I was like.
“So.... he came from an anime show”
Gah! Did you guys see that picture of his mother? God damn!
no. what does she look like?
2:38 I never know that Ciel Phantomhive would grow up to be Tarkin
Damn, I really think if Tarken wasn't forced into this life, he could have been a really good for the Galaxy.
Tacodog 76 He was an Imperial Grand Moff, he was already great for the Galaxy.
Its true, Tarkin is a tragic villain. The way his family treated him made him the monster the Galaxy knew him to be.
Tarkin was noted for his cruelty, ruthlessness, and killer cheek bones.
*sigh*
Such a sad story, that’s really all I can say...
And the rest they say is history.
I realized Tarkin hasn't gotten a villain theme. Hopefully we will get one soon in the future Bad Batch series.
A wise man said: “evil isn’t born, it’s taught.”

This was made by Disney folks. This is real.
I care more about Legends info than Canon stuff tbh after what Canon did to Tarkin in “Of MSE-6 and Men.”
Mr. Gentlezombie What does that mean?
It means that in “Of MSE-6 and Men,” Tarkin gets ruined. It is the last straw for Canon. Canon
Mr. Gentlezombie What is "Of MSE-6 and Men", and how did it ruin Tarkin?
Tarkin now does gay BDSM with stormtroopers.
I like the backstory for Tarkin. It makes sense and explains why he wasn’t a little bitch like so many other officers who were simply products of the academy system. (See also Thrawn.)

loved this one, good work mate
The Tarkin book was one of the best Star Wars books I have ever read. It was inspiring.
Nice knowing Daud was Tarkins father
My love of Tarkin just grew even more! What an awesome guy! Defenatly my favorite imperial officer!
Hey.... Look, his not bad at first, but when his son died.... He was truned ruthless
Huh, never knew that Tarkin was this hardcore growing up. Bravo
HAIL THE EMPIRE! HAIL THE EMPEROR!

the parents of Tarkin look like concept art from Dishonored XD, great vid btw
Thanks. I didn't know that. Its crazy all the character back stories I wonder if Vader knew how clever tarkin was as a kid and if that would impress lord vader

I never expected him to have such a dark backstory
Does anyone else see that the image before you click the video of him as a kid, doesn’t he look a little like ciel phantomhive. Or is that just me?
He must be getting flashbacks of his childhood every second
Tarkin is my favorite OT character who was not force sensitive.
I feel bad for him.
In the end tarken was just fighting for justice for what he believed was good...
That also TOTALLY justifies him blowing up a planet.
definately need more videos on tarkin

Tarkin is like the Rogrigo Deturte of star wars. What a bad ass!
A clever tactic, using Daud's face from Dishonored as the face of Tarkin's father.
It almost seems that he was insecure
Sheesh, Tarkin definitely had a twisted sense of duty.
Man I kinda feel sorry for him now I vent in the (canon) version of how he became one of the greatest and most feared people through out the Galaxy!😔
1:08 welp I bet his parents played undertale
0:30 Also the fashy ideals his parents and uncle drummed in his head.

Now this would make a good spin-off movie.
Loved the novel Tarkin,it made me like Tarkin a lot more.
And now the First Order has their own Tarkin in General Hux.
