First published in 1926 this is one of the most widely translated books in history and it never been out of print.
Kahlil Gibran is considered one of the great Poets of the 20th Century. After Shakespeare and the Chinese poet La-Tzu, Gibran’s work from 1923, The Prophet, has made him the third most-sold poet of all time. It has seemingly been able to speak to various generations: from those experiencing the Depression, to the 1960s counter culture, into the 21st century. It continues to sell well today. The Prophet declares no clear religious affiliation, while at the same time operating in a quasi-spiritual or inspirational register. Many consider it to be in the category of writing known as the Great Wisdom Texts”.
