Great review. Btw, heard you mention the heat in Arizona. I live in south Georgia and it’s been 95 to 100 degrees here for a while. Just have to get out early in the morning to ride and stay hydrated. Pedal safe

Very nice bike. However I’ve always felt a bit uncomfortable looking at the frame, as if someone took a bite out of the frame below the seat… will it not break??

The SLR version has a 52/36. I guess they assume the people who want the larger gears will go for the SLR version and the people who tend to go for the smaller gears will go for the SL
That is a reasonable hypothesis on your part but a lousy assumption on Trek's. If anything, they should have given the option upon ordering. Thank you for watching, my friend.
@@GetOutArizona yeah. Definitely quite silly. Specialized has the same gear ratios between the regular tarmacs and the s-works and that would probably be the best comparison between the SL and SLRs.
Tbh, this is a service the shop could (and arguably should) offer, we offer to switch out parts (within reason offcourse) and deduct the price of the original and add the price of the new one. That way people can get the handlebar/stem/saddle/gearing they want on any bike we sell.
@@nissemeys4766 Yes, and I believe Brandon offers this service when Trek is willing to credit for the swapped parts. I know he also installed new parts before delivery and returned the stock parts to the customer. Thank you for adding to the discussion @nissemeys4766.
Domane SL7 Gen 4 or Madone SL7 Gen 8?? I've read the comfortability between the bikes is similiar.
The difference will mostly be rider position/bike handling and tire clearance
Yes, the main differences will be in your position as the rider, how the bike feels/handles on the corners and climbs, and tire clearance, as the Domane can take up to a 44-sized tire.
If you grind away on longer rides, I'd recommend the Domane for its extra comfort. However, the Madone is smooth as can be and pedals effortlessly.

I believe Trek wanted a more significant differentiator between the SL and SLR versions. But what do I know? I have a shaved head and tattoos, lol. But in all seriousness, it is a mystery to most, and Trek has not given us an answer. Thank you for watching, my friend.

If I can get my 2016 madone down to the UCI limit (over a kg lighter than this bike) and its within a rounding error in terms of aero why would I ever buy this?
I believe that was the Gen 6 Madone, which has a different geometry and aerodynamic foil than this generation.
That said, if someone already had the 2016 Madone and it was still performing for them, that would be a tough justification, considering the price of upgrading.
However, for someone who does not already own a Madone and is looking to purchase one, I'd be hard-pressed to recommend a pre-owned version that is two generations old.
In the end, neither solution is a losing one and is subjective to the rider and the budget.

Is this a Madone or an Emonda? Apart from that the seat post, I think it is more Emonda but they just kept the Madone name. That would explain the gear ratio to a certain extent I guess. I’m an Emonda rider so may be biased. Either way, sweet looking bike

The Size ‘M/L’ is the closest to 56.
Yes, that is the rumor. However, I ride a 56, and the large size we have at the shop fits me very well. So when the time comes, that's the one I will choose.

@@triscuitbiscuit A pinch under 5'11" if we are going for exactitude. 56cm/Large has always been my frame size, and in some rare cases, it has been 58cm/XLarge.
@@GetOutArizona interesting. I ordered an ML. Right around 6’0”. Have a 58cm Domane and the seat post is all the way down and the 58 Domane and L Madone both have the same seat tube length. Definitely have short legs for my height!
@@triscuitbiscuit And there is the X factor. Brandon and I have spoken about this many times. He and I are the same height but ride different sizes because he has a different leg-to-torso ratio. Plus, arm length plays a role as well. This is why we always recommend a a fitment, if at all possible, to ensure proper sizing. It definitely makes the experience more enjoyable.
