Thank you for sharing this summary. In August dear friend sent me a small, old, leatherbound version of this book that was part of a set. In the remaining months, she suddenly became sick and is now in hospice care. I passed by the book on my shelf this past Friday and it really struck me how profound the title was. My dear sweet friend and chosen sister 🌹

Thanks for your summary and ideas for this amazing story.
Concerning the place of the story I was confused by „Outside lay gloom of a November day in London“. Is this to be read as „Outside lay gloom like of a November day in London“?
