Would love the next episode! I pulled my ER-1 out of the basement after years because of your vid. I never learned how to use it properly and your tips were great.
man, I ve been wanting to get one for a while but your vids are motivating me even more .with the guerilla firmware and resampled and processed, it's perfect for those types of fm-sounding percussions. I like the sound more than the ms:cycles. Listened to your stuff on soundcloud. My type of house, deep but not too sparse, with a good blend of organic and more synthetic sounds.
I got this thing at a flea market years ago for $40 and just never ended up using it but I've finally started trying to figure the thing out. Thanks SO MUCH for giving a visual guide I've tried reading the manual pdf online but it's so hard to visualize what they're trying to explain between the 50 or so pages😅😅😅
it's interesting how the ER-1 makes the volca drum make more sense, and yet in many ways the ER-1 has abilities the volca drum lacks: longer patterns, sample and hold, inputs, direct access to more parameters (knobs) etc. i hope korg improves the volcas more.
Try using the audio IN to overlay a short burst of noise through a high pass filter (use an Android app) to give a snare drum some more "snappiness". :)
You can adjust the sequence length so it isnt 4,8,16, etc steps. However this affects all the channels. So you cant set specific drum tracks to have a different sequence length to create polyrhythms
Hi excelent video! :D i have a mega question. I wanna know if you can do triplets (tresillos) with the Korg ER1 for example in latin music for example Salsa or Cumbia you always use triplets and the rythm is different to 4/4 so.. i want to know if it is possible to do that with this machine? or if you know a drum machine that can do that type of music please :D
I know you asked this a year ago but just to let you or anyone future reader know, hold shift and the step buttons 5, 6, and 7 changes your pattern scale
Protect is to prevent you from accidently overwriting your patterns, looks like you have it set to default to off, from the factory its set to a default of on.
Wow I had no idea this was so sick. I had a DFAM for awhile and looooved how it sounded and how easy it was to get crazy sounds, but the 8 step sequencer wasn't right for me. (Good for techno maybe, but I'm making more minimal/micro house stuff). I think this is probably what I wanted all along but didn't know it existed. If anyone one knows anything else like this lemme know...
I dont really know any modern synths that have this functionality for a low cost Id suggest picking up a used ER1 or if you have like $400 to spend, then get a used Korg EMX
wondering if anyone knows if trigger conditions are possible, like to open the decay more on the first beat of the kick and not the rest for example? Thanks
Hey man, thanks for the tutorial! I just got mine yesterday. Wanted to ask, when I'm using my er-1 with headphones, the output volume is incredibly low. I'm using Technics headphones (also tried others with a TRS adapter still very low). But when I plug it through my mixer + preamp, its seems to be working normal. Have you tried plugging headphones directly to the ER-1? The volume knob is maxed but very low output :/
I havent tried plugging in headphones directly. But also ive noticed that for some reason preset A01 sound really quiet. So maybe that's the issue? I always run the ER1 through my interface it sounds fine when i do that
@Durosai My headphone jack directly into the ER-1 and also playing the A01 preset both sound okay (12 o'clock on master volume if comfortable, 3 o'clock is painfully loud) I wonder if something is busted in the headphone jack itself or with the adapter. Otherwise, and less likely, maybe your headphones have really high impedance?
Actually, while making some patterns this week, I turned off the "Accent" part key, so it was not "set" for any steps of the pattern (unlike many factory patterns where all steps are "set"). Now in conjunction with the Amp Level position (see page 27 of the manual), if the accent part was OFF for all steps, then the pattern was significantly lower level over headphones. So I guess, Ken should check the accent part key & corresponding amp section level position to see if that is the source of the low-volume.
@@ruohoruotsi thanks for the reply! And yes, I'm aware of the accent levels and turning it off may decrease sound levels so much compared to the presets. But plugging directly to the er-1 still has low volume (this happens with headphones only), and I tried many headphones. Now I just plug it into a preamp when I want to jam
This was the first piece of gear I ever bought. Killer drum machine when it came out. I still use it on tracks 20 years later.
Brilliant!
14:36 actually an 808 and even 606, will play another sound when you layer open and close high hats on the same step.
It's so cool that you still do videos about this piece of gear. I still use it and I love your videos :) ty
10:36 staccato
12:13 thanks for the tip!

Thx D, I’ve used an Elektron Machinedrum and this device is just as versatile for a fraction of the price.

How do I save a beat pattern

good vid, well paced and worded. its not too technical but its not too noob
And like how to program the step sequencer part Bc I having trouble w that. Thanks
Does the ER1 do poly rhythms?
You can adjust the sequence length so it isnt 4,8,16, etc steps. However this affects all the channels. So you cant set specific drum tracks to have a different sequence length to create polyrhythms
@@Durosai picked one up today. Fantastic machine!
Forgot you had this gem!
These were really great thx!

Can you record each sound on an individual track so you can process them separately? Or can you only record the stereo out as a whole?
You can solo each drum and record individually or mute ones you dont want. But theres no individual outs

Ah okay! Thanks for the clarification!
Thank u for the video great job... can u teach us how to make someting else about ER-1 or you have a web I can reach .
Yes! I'll be doing more ER-1 videos in the future. You can also reach me at djdurosai@gmail.com

Korg Volca Drum. Its essentially the ER-2.
I never should have sold it. Programming it gave my tracks an original rhythmic edge. Kinda like percussive ear candy. Thx for the video.
Bro can u please make a how to use electribe mk2
I wish i had one :(
The Korg Electribe ER-1 mark II is exactly the same machine. Be it the the ring modulator is replaced by something else.
wondering if anyone knows if trigger conditions are possible, like to open the decay more on the first beat of the kick and not the rest for example? Thanks
To my knowledge you would have to use the motion sequence and record the automation in real time
Good stuff.
