    Regardless of which insert you use, do yourself a favor and get an accordion binder to store all the map tiles.

    RIP headphone users. That music is LOUD lol
    Here's a tip for 2 handed solo players using BT insert - get rid of 2 unused character trays and place the minis box in its place. Then you have enough space to fit ALL the character tuckboxes where they belong, instead of folded up in the map tiles tray. And yeah, the monster tuckboxes for sleeved players is simply awful and a big disappointment. It's the primary reason to choose another insert over BT. I HATE that thing lol

      My monster tactic decks are sleeved and fit in the tuckboxes just fine - but I do have to be careful to pack the monster standees in the tuckboxes just right so they don't bulge and stress the tuckboxes. The boss one was the toughest.

    I definitely missed the XP tracker spots in the BT insert. My bad. Also, some really good options brought up for how to store your game when only playing with 2. My favorite one is removing 2 character trays and placing the minis box where those would go. Great option. Thank you everyone for the comments and thank you for watching!

    • @Vypper7
      @Vypper7 5 лет назад

      Both of those “problems” are not problems, as you corrected yourself. The broken token assembly video that you can watch on youtube when putting it together shows you where everything goes, including XP tracker and mini boxes. And if cards are not sleeved, the tuck boxes are great. So those comments that lead you to pick one over the other end up being factually incorrect and do a disservice to a great BT insert for the casual viewer who doesn’t read the comments section. Overall for me the BT is better, with a cleaner brighter look and easier to grab tokens, among other benefits. But the more storage options the better !

    Also, to get the minis in, just pull 2 more of the base characters out of their tuck boxes and store them in the character trays. You don’t HAVE to only use the trays for the characters you’re using. They’re for storage in the box more than they are for organization during game play. You need to take the cards and character boards put to play, anyway... when you use all four, everything fits perfectly.

    Great comparison on anyone looking to buy a Gloomhaven organizer. Shopping around for an big organizer that is potentially costing half of what you paid for the game is great. It lets you see it assembled and you can see it in action vs seeing a bunch of pictures on sites. Great video and hope to see more of these! You gained a subscriber!

    If you'd like, you don't have to use the wooden character trays in the BT insert. You can store the characters in their original boxes like the Daedalus insert, and just remove the wooden trays so you have room for all 17 of them plus miniature box. Regarding the dials, they are definitely designed to fit inside the character trays nicely. Regarding the obstacle tiles, you can actually push down from the top to make them pop up and get them out. This eliminates the need to pick them up and push from the bottom.

  • @cfosburg
    @cfosburg 6 лет назад +2

    I would also have liked to see what setup looked like with each organizer and compare setup times.
    Great job, I wish someone would have done this 6 months ago!
    FYI- The XP disks fit perfectly into each of the character trays. Character boards sit on top of the disks- like a glove.
    Suggestion 1: take out 2 additional characters you aren’t playing with and store them in the character trays- problem solved!
    Suggestion 2: Find all the terrain tiles you will need for each scenario, before you start playing them you can set them to the side until you are ready to use them.

    So happy that you mention the problems that can come with sleeving your cards. We have played through 5 scenarios, so not that far in. But we need orgaizers. Takes way to long to get ready to play and set up. We have also found out sleeve is needed on the cards we shuffle and use a lot.
    We store our maps in a abc orginazied folder, so they wouldn't be needed in the gloomhaven box it self. To find them fast and easy, without looking through them all 🙈

  • @mjkuehl
    @mjkuehl 6 лет назад +16

    I have the Broken Token insert: The Dials for Health and experience go into the character trays. To fix the Miniatures boxes issue just take an extra starting character out of its tuck box and put it in a character tray (unused)(you only need three characters out for it to fit). The real problem I can see for both inserts but especially for the Daedalus Insert is when the expansion comes out. I feel like I maybe able to fit a good portion of the expansion material in with the current Broken token insert not the Daedalus. The enemy tuck boxes in the broken token insert are not that bad if you don't sleeve the attack modifier cards.

    I found that with the BT insert if you are playing a two player game you can take one of the player trays out and fit two of the class boxes in it's place on top or bottom. This allows you to still put the mini tray in the box.

    One thing you didn't compare, that is specifically important to me for GH - how well does each insert survive the box being laid on its side? GH fits some board game bags, but none of them while the right way up, so this game is going to end up stored sideways!

      Geek On! makes a variety of game bags (2 backpacks and a shuttletote) that I have found are quite good for transporting games (and they are designed to take into account over-sized games like Gloomhaven). Of the designs they currently have, only the shuttletote bag would keep Gloomhaven upright (the backpacks will end up storing the game on its side). Here is a link to their Kickstarter page where you should be able to make pre-orders for their latest poducts (which should actually be shipping fairly soon to backers).

    Fitting the map tiles in at the end with Daedelus is a freaking nightmare! The entire thing is enough of a puzzle to begin with, but having to put the map tiles in just the right order is really annoying. Idk maybe they should include a 1 pg pdf to print with directions on that as a workaround (the layout PDF is 23 pages). Btw I appreciate the review overall; I also tried both, though I still wonder if any of the other organizers are better. Aside I wonder how much space you'd need for 3d printed versions instead of cardboard...

  • @TheDentedarmor
    @TheDentedarmor 5 лет назад

    When you said you sleave cards, do you mean that you sleeve all cards, or just the essentials? I’m just wondering how the sleeving would work if you only sleeve 200- 300 of the cards as opposed to all of them?

    Another thing that any serious gloomhaven players have to take into consideration is apps available for your phone/tablets that alleviated a lot of the issues mentioned. Monster AI, GH hit point tracker *(which includes a "room" number that your players can all link to see hit points of monsters. My games are all conducted without the need of the Monster AI cards, the monster attack decks, nor the monster cards to track hit points or conditions. Makes playing AND more importantly set up of gloomhaven so much more interesting. SO much so, that apps really negate a lot of the seeming benefits of having these, lets face it, fairly expensive storing solutions.

    I got the BK insert. Here are some modifications I made to it :
    - I’m not using those character trays at all. I don’t really like them anyways. Instead, I build a custom foam core tray (white so it blends well with the tuck boxes and trays) which is smaller than the four character trays (stacked). This foam core section fits next to all character tuck boxes and the minis tray. It contains the dials, the biggest monster standee, the party sheets, a few cards. I could fit more in that foam core insert as there’s lots of room left. This also avoids having to flatten the character boxes that would either be removed from the box or added to the map tiles tray.
    - I have room left to slide the element track between the minis tray and the box so it doesn’t end up in the map tile tray, causing extra bulge in that tray if I were to put it there.
    - I labelled my component (ex: overlay tiles) trays so I dont’t have to look for the double sided pieces.
    - I taped the bottom of all character tuck boxes and all monster tuck boxes to avoid cards or small tokens from sliding out.
    FYI : the envelopes and town record go inside the big cards tray. There is a secret compartment for those under the tray.
    Note : I find that the BK insert simply has less trays overall to take out of the box. You don’t even have to take every tray out of the box to gather what you need for a scenario.

    I really don’t understand what you big issue is with the broken token boxes? So you can store all of them. I love the four character trays. So you need to swap characters around every now and then? It might be a bit of extra work, but you make it sound like something that may actually take 1-2 minutes will take hours.
    If you have a problem with that I wonder whether you’re actually ready for life.

      I have the Meeple Realty insert. It's pretty similar to the Broken Token insert. I think Broken Token does a better job with having a tray for all the room tiles. Unlike the complaint he has about not being able to fit in the miniatures Meeple Realty doesn't have that issue. However Meeple Realty doesn't have the player deck boxes. Those would be very cool to have and make set up just a tiny bit faster.

      Sorry, I was referring to the cottage industry that has sprung around design/production/sales of board game organisers. As you have observed yourself, there is a fair bit of mental gymnastics involved in putting them together and then back inside the box. And the prices of those things! In a few months I expect a Top 10 Gloomhaven Organisers video :)
      As I have just received my copy of the game I have yet to play it but my gut UX instinct tells me that an application, be it a game or otherwise, requiring so many fiddly bits, rules and/or external (organiser) products should have been designed more elegantly out-of-the-box.

    When putting the cards and standees back into the tuck boxes just do exactly what is in the "how it fits" video: put the box on the table, put the cards on the flap to the box, arrange the standees on the cards, then just slide it all in together. It works perfectly! IMO neither.... ok it looks good and is nicely together with everything tugged away in the original box, but imo the best way is just to get more boxes instead of spending a s-load of money for storage containers. if one carries around a 10kg box already why not get 1 shoe boxes where one puts in all the big tiles and 2x $3 organizer for the monsters. A big irritation of Gloomhaven is the time for setting it up...while these storage systems are nice...it still takes a really long time to get everything out, placed and set up te board. Also since I sleeved all the cards....the storage seems to be less ideal anyway.
    Best is to simply spread the content over more boxes...get the tiles and monsters out of the original box and there is loads of room to get the rest back in without having to puzzle everytime you want to play a boardgame.

      I think this is the way to go. These insert trays are more expensive than the game itself.

    A big problem for me. Dude, open up two more character boxes. You know, one of the none locked ones. Problem solved. Really. This was a big problem for you? Seriously?

    Who stored it better? After an embarrassing amount of research Go7Gaming stored it the best.

    Do NOT take the advice of this video. IT NO LONGER HOLDS ALL THE CARDBOARD CUTOUTS WELL, they have either redesigned it, or a new version of Gloomhaven was released. Stick with Broken Token, it is a far superior product. Please check reddit/r/gloomhaven for a more robust review from me which for some reason is not showing up on the Daedalus website.

    I appreciate what you tried to do with this video...but you need to learn the basics of something before you go out and do it. Take producing a video as an example. Consistent sound levels matter!!
    Let's just say on an audio scale from 1 to 10 (with 5 being the volume level that you started with in the beginning of the video)...when you cut to the scene where you were taking apart the broken token organizer, the volume jumped up to about a 9...and then when you came back after the Daedalus example was completed...the volume went down to about a 3.
    A good video is about good quality video and good quality and consistent audio!

    10:42 No. That is not it. Where are the cards? Why are these companies making these storages don't make the single obvious thing with monster in this game? Which is combining everything into a box with their Stats Sheet as the cover and everything (cards, standees and initiative names) inside of it, for each separate monster.
