My daughter and I are watching right now. She wants to make a bow and we are starting from scratch! We’re passing through Pensacola in a couple weeks. Would love to come and see your set up Clay!
Im wanting to start this myself, my uncle is a hoyt dealer in ontario and he has good wood on his property that i think would make some epic bows, just gotta get the free time.
You can also use the hotbox to dry the wood much faster, albeit still slow. I’ve seen people put a hickory stave in a hotbox for a month or so and it dries with no Ill affect.
why not just make a straight cut on a table saw and skip half the work? I really just dont understand. please if someone has the reason I would like to know.
We need more of this, I learn a lot from you clay but to help others is the blessing, shoot straight

Man, I wish I knew how to make my own bow. Awesome video!
Go to Clay Hayes RUclips channel he has hours and hours of bow building videos with instructions.
Clay's platforms are the perfect place to learn! www.twistedstave.com/
How much does Clay charge to go to his ranch and build a bow?? Or is it a "by invitation only"??
@@justincowley84 Clay does do classes on bow building! For more information we would recommend reaching out to him directly.
Watch all of his videos that is how I learned and I also bought his book

Thanks for the comment! Glad you liked it! Such a cool process!
Where can I get a draw shave bench like you use?
I have a question the eastern red cedar bow that you mentioned in your book that broke was it sinew backed I'm thinking about attempting to make one
But I don't want it to break
My neck of the woods
What tool/bench are they using to hold the wood steady when they scrape it with the draw knife?
It’s called a bowyers bench, and the tool is a drawknife
Also called a shave horse. many other names. used by chairbuilders and other wood carvers.
What was the point for the hot box
It keeps the wood dry and humidity from affecting the bow before it's sealed. Thanks for the question!
