    Good video Lars. Very helpful seeing different ways to do the same task. Perhaps showing a number of wrong ways rolled by the most efficient way might be worthwhile. Keep them coming. Cheers

    LOVE THIS STYLE! . It helped me too overcome the fear of “Not doing it right.”
    Sometimes you just need to "hack" out a quick design idea and then figure out an assembly method. I work this way in the wood shop a lot. Now I'm learning ways to do virtual work and mockups before cutting real wood. This style also helps me figure out dimensions and angles that I have had a hard time envisioning before. You also did a great job trying to not offend the "Right Way" designers.

    Interesting way of working. Where a few things I keep: 1. the solution to grup rigid is nice and very useful, 2. The way to use hinge as assembly and still work as hinge in another assembly, and finally 3. for the split body was used in unusual way for me, but I might add that I'll do it a little different, as I split the lid and bottom and hide then, I'll make the rest of the box shell through by selecting the top and bottom face in one time(eliminating the need for combine 4 time after). Congratulations on the videos you're very helpful

    this is so much more like the way my brain works. I block things out then start cutting in the details. I used to work in a factory and could CAD in my head this way as I did my boring repetitive job.its also how everyone learns how to draw, by hand on paper. I used bonzi 3d and sketchup which are made to work this way. I was a little dissapointed with fusion 360 that I couldn't seem to be able to start with 3d primitives and have gotten fairly frustrated trying to learn it "back to front" as it seems to me. so! im really glad you made this vid.

    This is primarily the style that I model in. I could see a nice follow up to this being a video on making the model parametric friendly and what to watch out for when designing parametric models. The tricky part here would be getting the hinge subtraction to work right without leaving a variable number of screwhole-faces left to extrude down.

    Lars, I think this approach is better in demonstrating the versatile approach to modelling.
    I,m used to the structure of browsers in inventor and solidworks and always
    referred to the parametric history while working to completion for a part or assembly.
    In fact in my recent effort in fusion I relied on the timeline in the same way.
    It also might be useful, if you had a small physical component or assembly on your desk
    which you could measure and then model on the screen... might take a little longer than 30 mins
    though. Good work.

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  7 лет назад

      Hi wishbone569 Thank you for watching!
      I think I need to do a better job showing how Fusion is different than Inventor and SolidWorks. In Fusion, you have to worry less about doing things in the "right" order or your model blows up.
      Have a great day!

    Another awesome video, thanks for the effort you put into all of these.
    In the spirit of modelling the way I want.. after the Shell command, I lopped off the bottom with the Split Body command as you showed for the lid and saved having to do all of the separate side piece Combine commands. Same result, different way (which I took to be the point of the video).
    Again, thanks Lars for helping beginners to break into this amazing software!

    I get what you're going for here and can appreciate the sentiment of "if it works...", but the "right" way to do things isn't that way because it's the only way, it's that way because it is a combination of the simplest, most robust, most efficient, and most intuitive way. It's like programming...you can brute force a huge "if...then" block or use a select block. Both get you where you're going but the select is the "right" way.

    Is it possible that this method might have painted you into a corner? What if you now decide that the side walls need to be a different thickness than the front and back walls or if you want to have a thinner top? Will you have to go back and delete the "shell" step and will that cause errors for your split body steps? Is there an approach that will be more resilient to changes down the road?

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  7 лет назад

      Hi Ken Hackbarth Thank you for watching!
      I don't know if I would say that I have painted myself in a corner. I could use offset face as an example to edit each side. But, I get your point. I am not saying that driving everything with a sketch would be stupid, I am just saying that there are different ways to model things, and people should not worry so much about the "right" way.
      Thank you for your comment!
      Have a great day!

    • @KenHackbarth
      @KenHackbarth 7 лет назад

      Hi Christian, I recognize that one could make up for questionable earlier decisions but it's a bandaid and you can end up with bandaids on top of other bandaids. Mostly, you sacrifice the fundamental benefits of parametric modeling. I've recently experienced a case where going back and modifying an early feature resulted in a cascade of warnings that I simply couldn't correct and instead had to restart my model. I'd say that is a good indication that my process was flawed.

    • @conceptinterface
      @conceptinterface 7 лет назад

      How would you convert this "hacked" model into a parametric model without building it all over again? Would you just edit each component and add dimensions? I would HOPE to end up with an assembly that could be scaled without changing wall thickness, or change wall thickness without changing outer dimensions, etc.

    Is there a way to creat accurate curves in Fusion 360? I just need to create a curve from a picture to follow the edge of it. The problem that I face is a fraction of the size of the picture and I need to draw it and scale it up, but it's too small. Can you help me?

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  6 лет назад

      Hi Rob Probasco Thank you for watching!
      I normally create a box that has dimensions of my overall length and width and then scale the image to fit within there. For your curves, yes, you can fully define splines by creating relationships and you can also dimension the length of the spline handles.
      Check out this video:
      ruclips.net/video/6u29SqgvQik/видео.html
      I did not dimension the splines in the end, but you for sure can. Then you have a totally accurate curve.

    Often we just want that one-off thingy we need to get done. Using the "right way" I end up just doing it on paper or other software as the effort do it Fusion may not be worth it. This method certainly would be easier in those situations.
