I was surprised to find twenty or so ticks on our dog while we were on holiday at the beach. Fortunately we got them off easily, I saved a couple which made great macro subjects.
I 'simulate' a tick jumping onto dog and then get some even closer shots of various tick body parts. A ticks mouth is absolutely amazing.
We checked ourselves as well, luckily they prefer dogs.
Shot with a 50mm Minolta MD macro lens and custom built lighting.
Music: Horses to Water by Topher Mohr and Alex Elena

Just came over from the RCHacker side of things, and I find this incredibly interesting! Ecuador seems like an amazing place for studying biodiversity.

Cruel? Nontoxic glue? Did you let it go to wander about after your filming? Please tell me you were joking.……

The orange mouth piece looks almost like a Radula. Great setup. The non-toxic glue and the hypodermic needle are both great ideas as I have NEVER seen such footage where you can really get a good look at he movement constraints of all the different joints.

TheUnDeRGRouNDHoBo Thats a tick nymph, once it has its fill from an insect it moults, gets bigger then moves on to bigger hosts.
