      +Raeed Tayeh RUclips is better than a TV show. You can search on topics and RUclips automatically suggests related content. Unlike a TV show, you can watch the videos as often as you want, any time. Also, unlike a TV show that is constrained by advertising breaks, a RUclips video can be 100% information, no fat and no time wasted by rehashing previously covered information following a commercial break! (If you've ever watched a Home & Garden TV show, you know what I mean: Seven minutes of information, following by 3 minutes of commercials, followed by two minutes of recap after the commercials. In the end, a half-hour show has just 10 minutes of useful information, if you're lucky. It's mostly a waste of time and an exercise in frustration.)

    Leah, I am so thankful for you. I’m a single homeowner with no “handy person” to help me with house projects. You have helped me so much. The people around me are so impressed with what I have done/am doing all on my own! It has saved me so much money, it has assured me a job well done, it has alleviated the anxiety of paying a stranger to come into my house to do it, it has increased the value of my home, and perhaps most importantly, it has made me feel empowered and confident that I don’t need a man to get things done. I thank you so much, and I really appreciate the way you break things down for beginners. You’ve made real difference in my life. Thank you, and keep it up! 💖💪🏽

    Thanks a lot. I'm 33 and have to do a lot of home repairs for my mom these days, but I only have basic knowledge of carpentry and tools. I'm sure you made this video for the purpose of helping people, and you did.

    Hello Ms. Leah. After watching several videos for the past several months I recently stumbled across yours and can not express how much I have enjoyed each one! Thank you for explaining each project in a thorough step-by-step manner. The medium pace at which you explain things also makes a world of difference. In doing so, we are not confused along the way (i.e. having to continuously replay the video due to one speaking too fast!). Thank you so much for taking the time to HELP those of us in need of home repairs, that for one reason or another need to do it for ourselves! May you be blessed for all that you have sown and sacrificed in your endeavors!

    Been in the trades for a long time (1 trade, Union Ironworkers) I am doing some remodeling on an older house I bought last winter and have been using RUclips to do it for the most part because ironwork does not translate to carpentry barely at all. You are a great instructor , very patient . Perfect for the very new . A bit too patient for my experience, until now. I’ve walked by 25 years of drywall and drywallers and realize I didn’t know sh:t about drywall outside of patching holes poorly . Thank you.

    Wow, great job. I should have watched your video a long time ago. Here's a few of my noob tips - stuff I learned the hard way:
    1. Use a small putty knife for filling in screw/nail heads for jusr the first coat, and fill in the hole starting at an edge. If you go right over the top, you can get an air bubble that you just gotta deal with that.
    2. Do not use the solid fiberglass tape, just don't.
    3. Use a low angle on your knife to spread, going lighter and lighter to smooth.
    4. Use a higher angle to scrape of excess
    5. Keep the ready-mix closed tightly. Scrape away the plaster from the top-inside of the bucket take assure a good seal.
    6. Make sure no dry bits of plaster are mixed in with the wet stuff, it'll just leave streaks.
    7. Don't just use a small knife for the job, you need larger knife to smooth properly or you'll end up doing more sanding and coating then needed.
    8: Double check the thickness of the existing drywall before buying more to patch in - it comes in 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8 thickness.

      wow, thanks! but i wanna know the actual difference of using a fiber mesh against a paper tape?

    • @alexandergraef8940
      @alexandergraef8940 8 лет назад

      The paper binds to the mud, so it works right away if tensile strain occurs. The fiber tape needs a full tensile strain before working, by then the mud if often already broken.

      What a treat having you as a go to person....love how friendly and encouraging you are in your vids.
      Your delivery in covering questions a general "newbee" would ask is
      greatly appreciated....On to the next task to keep things moving forward with success....you rock Leah! I have subscribed to your RUclips channel.

    This has helped me SO much, as a woman who loves to do home improvements, and loves to get her hands dirty, and a husband who hates them, he'd rather go get his nails pulled out than to do a simple home improvement ! we bought a mobile home after my health got worse, and I needed to be on 1 level not 3 like our house is, but the young couple who owned it before we bought it almost destroyed this place, and since I'm use to a house, I wanted my trailer ( mobile home) to look more like a nice home, not the cheapness of the trailer and by all means they are not cheap at all when you go buy one, but some are cheap made like mine! fake wood everywhere. Anyways, I removed the fake pieces of wood trim running up and down my walls every 2 foot or so, and now I've made a mess and a lot of work for myself, so when I found this I was delighted ! I ran to Lowes and got my materials, and now I'm watching once again for a refresher course so I know I'll be doing it right ! THANK YOU !!!

    This was an Awesome instructional video. I've been putting off a drywall project because I was afraid to start since I didn't truly understand what to do even after watching countless RUclips videos. This has been the most helpful and now I am ready to begin. I will be seeking out other videos by you and I have subscribed to your channel.

    Leah, I live in an area that was affected by Hurricane Harvey. The house I bought suffered from this storm and had to be completely gutted from ceiling to floor. I have to rebuild this house on my own because I cannot afford the inflated labor costs. I have no idea what I am doing but finding your channel as helped me get a better understanding of what I need to do. I am struggling and extremely overwhelmed. I wish I could have you here with me to help. Thank you for your channel and guiding me through rebuilding my home alone.

    In the UK drywall is relatively new (20 something years) and my mothers new house keeps getting cracks in her ceiling, i cannot believe all the repairmen do is use filler, they dont tape the joints, and wonder why they keep cracking! you should come over and teach them! or earn a fortune yourself!

    • @starodin
      @starodin 9 лет назад

      +jusb1066 if they dont use jointape they no craftsmen.
      i use it all the time, but its my realday work.
      hotmix as in video i only use in repair, never else.
      the finish mix, have glue in it, so the joint works like a welding point.
      but it takes longer time to dry using this, normaly 24hrs.

      +jusb1066 20 years?! I was using it 40 years ago in UK....... But, you are right about the absence of tape. Funny thing, the British use drywall, but then they skim over the whole surface, just as they used to with lath and plaster. This is no doubt the fundamental explanation for the decay of British civilisation.
      Thank you Leah for your wonderful, clear tutorials. You have a real genius for teaching.

      1Howdy1 I live in Vermont and do almost all smooth. And we skim every thing using mark v and tape tech smoothing blades all the way up to 4 feet. They call it level 5 or airless plaster.

Your videos are the best I have found on the subject. The videos are very easy to understand and the pace at which you go through all the steps is perfect. I always feel very confident in my abilities at the end of each of your how-to's. Thank you Leah! I agree, you should have your own TV show!

    Hey Leah! This is the video that you made that got me kickstarted into joint compound. I tried all kinds after this, pre-made quick dry, pre-made takes-until-the-end-of-time, dries and your homemade. I found that after the rooms were done or areas of, that over time, the making-my-own option, held up the best. Anyway, I didn't have an account on the youtubes back then to say THANK YOU. So here's a great big fat THANK YOU for my kickstart into what is just so flippin' fun to do. Who knew that I could do it? You did! You're brilliant. I truly, truly enjoy your work. Cheers, Ivy.

    Finally I can finish drywall and have it look great thanks to this video. Just finished prepping my kitchen for new cabinets. Soffits were removed and the drywall needed to be patched in and made to go with the existing ceiling. It came out just like a pro. Never knew about putting my hand on the back of the knife like she shows. I wish I had seen this video years ago. Would have saved me a lot of pain!
