I feel like this song is about someone having their signifigant other layin on the ground on drugs "laying on the carpet, sinking like a summer moon in a tar pit, you werent supposed to see that"
Then they are wrecklessly driving and almost kill themselves and have a revalation about life, and the partner has "swampy eyes", aka theyre crying. And the lat line where he says "im nit always the only one for you", is he knows shes being pushed past her limit. She swampu eyes, she loves him but with these moments of weakness where "youre nit supposed to see that" are bringing her to leave him because she cant handle yhe wreckless behavoir or that hes hiding it.
