In the swedish version of this story they don't try to marry of princesses with the lindworm, but women who were criminals. Prince lindworm does not eat them either but his skin is razor sharp so he accidentally kills them when he tries to hold them. Also where this story ends, the swedish one continues! The heroine gets to fight the minions of the devil himself!
@@debymello4756 It's just called Prince Lindworm, so while searching all I can find is the Norwegian one online for free. But on wikipedia it says that it's in The Pink Fairy book by Andrew Lang :)
@@TrebleMuave Sorry for long wait! Never got a notification! The story is not for free online but according to wikipedia it's in The Pink Fairy book by Andrew Lang :)
I imagine the Lindworm has no control over his appetite, and no memory of his devouring the others. I.E. he's not at fault for their death's, it's the curse that befell him.
Idk but maybe his physically transformation, also changed his behavior as well. Maybe because he was born a serpant, he naturally lived like one as well. And only when he turned into a human, could he naturally live like one as well. Idk but that's my best guess.
She rides a goat and beats up trolls (or witches) with a wooden spoon. Also she chooses to wear rags instead of dress and fancy stuff because she doesn’t care about her beauty/appearance!
I've heard another version of the story were instead of the old lady telling the Queen to eat roses she gives her two onions to peel to the core and eat them. If you ask me it makes the ending seem more appropriate with onions but I like roses and they are in fact edible.
In Italy we have a story with a similar mechanics: the bride has to wear seven gowns embroided with bells, so that when the evil mother in law asks her to "shed a shift" in order to BOIL HER AND SERVE HER MEAT TO THE PRINCE (as you can see, in Italy is always about food), the bells could ring and warn the prince something is wrong.
I find fairy tales much more enjoyable, when the roles are revesed like this. Where instead of the prince saving the princess, the princess actually ends up saving the prince. I guess it's because the damsel in distress types of stories get pretty old after a while, and it kinda gave off the vibes that a lady needed a man to save her in order for her to live happily ever after.
It would have been a really cool twist (maybe if they made a remake of this they could do it.) if the lindworm actually ended up being a princess. I feel like if they were to do this it could be pulled off by making it very hard to determine the sex of a lindworm (similar to hyenas, penguins, etc) and have the voice of the lindworm be deeper, forcing the King to assume they were male, when in fact they were female. And by the time the kingdom found out it was already too late seeing as the princess's had married the night before. (Also, make it so the lindworm/princess is a lesbian which is why she requested for a bride instead of groom. And have the shepherd's daughter be pansexual, that way when she did find out she had married a princess instead of a prince it wouldn't have bothered her either way.) Okay actual considering rewriting it this way, obviously still giving credit to the original.
Ngl I genuinely thought that would happen because the mother ate the white flower first, like mom would "still get what she initially wanted", but eating the second rose corrupted that choice
Three things, one Why was the lindworm a boy, wouldn't be a girl for it was eating both of the roses that caused this and the other was also a boy? two, how did the lindworm know what road they would go on, and how did he get there so fast? Three, do not put citrus in tea with milk!!! You will just make tea yeast Have a good night or day my dears
In many European cultures (picking the rose/eating the rose) was slang for doin the "deed" so that might be the reason for all the baby roses Also my mother told me a similar story except that the snake died and turned into a rose and the princess ran off with the brother

"But she has no problem being a dom. Cool." 😂😂😂
Right 😆
"She has no problem being a Dom apparently, cool."
That made me giggle.
I love the way she talks when she's telling these stories

That's one of my favorites. Wish there was a movie version of it or something

So, those other two girls are just dead now? and because the prince is handsome now, we're just ignoring the fact that he ate them?

Pretty privilege I guess!
That picture is hypnotizing
Look up the story "Princess Tatterhood." It does the two flower thing and is the most girl power story I've ever read.

Strange tale and great animation (felt like I was being mesmerized by that snake!).

Yes! She's doing it! Yes! This is at my top 5 favorite tales.
Well damn… the technically younger prince also lost his direct path to the throne now that the king has two valid sons
I always try to listen to a story before I go to sleep

There is also a Litvanian fairy tale - QUEEN EGLE, with Snake King.

aw heck ye stronk shepherd daughters should be a fairytale trope now on

There is a Web comic online where the lindwyrm is revealed to be a princess if you're still curious
I remember this story from an old fairy tale book, over twenty years ago.
cozy story merci
I would absolutley love an asmr channel from you. You have the voice for it!

You should have this as a second part to the creepy origins of “Beauty and the Beast”.
So the 2 princesses where the poor losers in this story 😞

I know a somewhat gender swapped version of this kind of story.
It's called "Bianca Bella."
Nice story I'll be posting a snow white vampire horror story im writing soon this was interesting
Wait, if the Lindworm was result of the white rose... shouldn't be a princess?... plot hole.
I love the lindworm story and I wish it was animated.
Agree, but...I think the possible animated movie would be more fit for teenagers than for little children.🤔
@@lenarosic honestly this feels like a teen comedy movie with a creepy tone. 🙂🙂🙂☺️
@@setsuki17 well...some of well known tales are VERY CREEPY in their original form.
@@lenarosic I love this chat with you and plus yeah you're right about that because in most fairy tales there are dark origins. #princelindworm
I had an exam that involved this story. I got a pretty good grade on it too. Was extremely weirded out by the story tho

There is Serbian fairy tale with similar story plot - SNAKE BRIDEGROOM.😀
