      BETTER THAN BIG SCREEN ACTORS:
Andy, was indeed. I wish I could go fishing with him , at his Hime in Idaho.
But as they say, " Never Meet Your Heros" ; somehow I don't think I would be Disappointed. He gave it his all and deserves to Ride out Life in Peace.
I believe most Actors are Type A personalities, hard driven achievers. Its hard to believe they can Turn that all off.
But as Musician, " Billy Joel" said " Who was That Guy back Then" , He stepped away; no desire to Record anymore. Brilliant Flares, with calculated burn time.

One of the most proudest moments of the entire NYPD Blue series. Seeing Andy get sober, making up with his ex-wife and Andy Jr., becoming Sergeant, and his growth when it comes to his own racial prejudices, SGT Andy is a great character and made the show truly special. Not to mention his friendship with John. The character development is what is to be cherished.

I know this was only show with people playing characters, but to watch this show from beginning to end and watching how each of these characters played an integral part and all those characters intertwined with each other. The loses, the shared experiences, the animosity between and hiw the animosity gave way to friendship and dare I say love for each other. I watched this episode and bawled my eyes out. For Medivoy retiring and for Andy telling the chief he didn't want anymore promotions. The squad was and always will be his to watch over and take care of. I watch this show and can't help think of my Uncle Lauren. A combat infantry Marine that served a tour in the Korean war, a 28 year veteran of the detroit police force that worked his way up to dectective sergeant dispite never graduating high school, dropping out at 17 to join the Marines to get away from his abusive chronic alcholic parents, after retiring from the Detroit police he transfered to the Wayne County sherriffs department where he served 17 years as a court officer.

I thought about what you said. Andy got sideways with "the brass" all the time. BUT. He always came out on top in the end, and that I think makes him about perfect for the job. Plus, he got more willing to talk things thru rather than engage in raging as he aged and it served him well. How would the writers have handled it had the show continued? I think they'd have shown him growing into the job as he'd grown as a human.

But binge watched all five seasons of Wire, turned aroundt & immedjately watched them all again. Hope one day to do the same with Blue, me, only saw the first season when it aired. Regardless which is ‘best’, IMO, these two shows are both ‘beast of breed’, them. Warning: Wire dialogue WAY ‘saltier’ than Blue, made by HBO, less censoarship. I would hope that Clark Jr. would end up with that female ADA, she is tough but also good for him.

OK, I admit that Greg Medavoy was one of my least favorite characters in the show. But he was a stand up guy and real soldier for the squad. He did his job with integrity and intelligence, and with a flash of genius here and there.
So as the series was wrapping up, and we were all engrossed in Andy's story, it was nice to see the other characters getting a happy sendoff. And Medavoy hooking up with Brigid Scofield [Mary Page Keller] was very much part of that. The character had earned that.

I wish they hadn't made Andy's first day as "boss" the last episode of the series. I would like to have seen Andy continue in his new job and where it would lead. Also bring Connie and the children back once in a while.

Just realized Andy [Franz] and Greg [Gordon] were the only two that were on the show since day one. Everyone else came along later. Even the Chief of D's was different. Says something about these two actors and how great they are.

Yep Bill Brocktrup was 3rd longest Henry Simmons was the 4th longest, then Mark Paul-Gosselaar who did a few more episodes than Jacqueline Obradors & then Bonnie Somerville & Currie Graham did the same amount of episodes for the final season.

1:23 Is that a reference to Teddy Roosevelt? He was the guy who reformed the NYPD. He made it a requirement that guy's go through an academy, be physically fit, all that stuff. Just wondering 🤔
