Maca Root shave cream is one of the most bulletproof creams I have ever used. It lathers up very easily.
Thanks for taking the time to share the video.
The Razorock Mission is one of my favorite razors.
I find it has the perfect balance of aggression and smoothness.
Loved this new format. Please do more videos. Waiting for them desperately. Hope you'll continue to review razor blades. There are too many good blades in this universe you need to check. Thanks again for your videos
I finally owned a cream before Nick Shaves did?? Gnarly
Thanks for your thoughts, defiantly on my radar. I believe it's a pretty good value here in Canada as well, roughly $16
I received some of this for my Birthday just before Christmas. Great scent and performance and a decent price point. I found I needed to use a bit more of it than with other creams though.
One of the best cream on the market for price and quality product. I used this cream for many years and i am very happy each time i make a shave whit it. And by the way Maca root grow in Perou in Andes mountain at 5000 ft. Thank for this video!
excellent shaving cream, great razor glide, very easy to face lather with. Scent kind of reminds me a bit of new mown grass, nice and fresh, great scent, very pleasant. How anyone could find it unpleasant, I don't know. I guess maybe some guys want to walk around smelling like glamour queens all day.
My favourite shave cream without doubt.
+Henri B'astard This is one of the best creams I have used. Its slicker than TOBS creams and has a better, less drying post shave
@@nickshavesTOBs is kind of overrated IMO. It's so common and raved about but it's very average in slickness and post shave feel IMO.
I really love this cream, I think is perfect for beginners, you can get it right of a Body Shop store (no shipping) and it is very very easy to lather plus you get fantastic results. The scent seems to remind us of our childhood to many of us, I personally remember playing in the grass and bushes when I was a little boy. Nice scent.
Great review Nick! I'm very new to DE shaving and because of you I got into it. I started 3 months ago and used the can goo and cartridge razor. I went ahead and bought the micro touch from Walmart which almost made me turn away from DE shaving. I did some research and then came across the Razorock Mission and have been completely satisfied with razor. I highly recommend it, especially if someone is trying to get into DE shaving and doesn't want to brake the bank.
Really enjoyed the new format. Great review.
been wet shaving for about 7 months now good video Nick I just noticed Trader Joe's has a wet shaving starter kit brush shave soap and aftershave balm for 10 bucks so I bought it for my buddy and he really likes it
I got the cream for my birthday. It was so thick it got stuck in the razor head and it was so hard to get out in during shaving. So my remedy was to dip my brush with a little water, then don't use so much cream. The cream smells and feels really nice, protects well, and it's cruelty free. It's thick and harder to get out of your razor head, so if you're okay with that, then you may like it.
A great cream to use when trying out new blades and straights because of the slickness and just a great cream Nick. 🇬🇧
Thanks I've got sensitive skin winter time kills me now I'm wet shaving cause of u have merkur 34c and 39c slant (don't use yet) ej 89 and tobs Sandlewood and jer street lucky tiger derby blades scared to use feather just now but love have lots of razorock stuff u the man keep pumping the videos out
I been face lathering since I started but after trying bowl lathering there is no camparison you use less product and the lather is way better. I also am using the razorock mission and mentor and they are must haves.
Hi Nick, Great video. The body shop Macca root shave cream and synthetic shave brush were my entry purchase into wet shaving. I find it very good. No razor burn on the neck using this which is a first for any product. I've branched out and purchased a badger brush and upgraded my Mach 3 to a Merkur 34c. Getting great results. Good to see a professional review on the shave cream I am using to reinforce my selection.
Great videos. Regards.
Thanks for the review. Your videos are always very helpful. I don't think I'll be switching from barrister and Mann or Taylor of old bond street but I may grab some samples from body shop.
Great review Nick, just like you did, I always find Macca Root so easy to use and it's an excellent performer. Personally, I always find your shave reviews more useful than your lather reviews mostly because you will inevitably cover some of the same ground anyway, but there is no intended criticism in that statement :)
I really appreciate that you review shaving stuff! makes it easy for a lady like me to buy GOOD gifts! thank you!
Great shave Nick! I like a 'chatty' razor so I might order up one of these 'Mission' razors. As for the lather review?...I say skip it. If you do a shave you can take all that into account when you build.
+Mark O'Cain The feedback is great with this razor. Thanks for the feedback about the lather review
Maca root has changed it box to aloe Vera scent
But still called maca root.
Its my only cream I use now.
Very nice feel to my face excellent product.
I buy my from the body shop in Beverley UK where I am from.
Very traditional shave ...a good shave and good feedback...one of your best...and I watch these videos every day...very Paulish...only thing missing is a little fun factor..Paul is good example...your a little to preppy...clinical...but since your a doctor I understand...lol....Bottom line a good shave with a good product...think I'll buy the razor..and the cream...Very affordable
Thanks for the great review, Doc.
I also enjoyed Con, Shave The Man's, review! I Love the Maca Root Shave Cream!
🤔
Hi Nick I started watching your videos a few months ago and have made a lot of purchases based on your reviews and it is really help me buy wisely instead of shopping by trial and error I just recently order the razor rock mission razor based on your review I can't wait to try it out I also ordered a muhle R41 I hear it's one of the most aggressive razors out there I would like to see you do a review on it sometime in the near future if possible thank you for your videos they have been very helpful for me.
The lather review is nice plus it gives you practice with it before hand so when you do the actual shave, variables will be cut down. Like the other day I lathered my razorock xxx soap a bit to dry and had a horrid shave, face burned everywhere. Other times when I lather it correctly, really good shaves.
Keep up the great work man, hope to see some more blade reviews. Big ups from the Caribbean.
Hi Nick, good video again. By the way: The Edwin Jagger head is actually the Mühle shaving head:-)
I bought this shave soap a couple of weeks ago. It was on sale online in Canada where I am, but they honored it in store. I like it better than Taylor of Old Bond (coconut) and Proraso shave cream (sensitive).
I love this soap. Hadn't used it in awhile used it today as normal amazing.
At $2.50/once it isn't a bad deal. It is not as cheap as when I picked up Kiss My Face at 1/2 off. I was really intrigued when PaulH said this is the cream he uses when he shaved with the Muhle R41 two days in a row. I picked up 6 this past monday when TBS idd their buy 3 get 3 free deal. I was too tempted at $1.25/ounce. I am making a gift set for my brothers and didn't want to drop too much money, but a tub of this will work.
Yes Nick..I would like to see a lather review please. A good review of the cream and razor, Well done.
+steven lamond Thanks for letting me know about the lather review!
Nick,
I believe you prefer or lean towards hard soaps. I love creams. Hard to tell from your video but it looked like you had too much loaded on the brush. My advice - I find a little goes a long way with creams. You'll know if you loaded too much on because A, you'll need more water (though you shouldn't) and B, it will feel like Greek yogurt or gummy instead of a light, fluffy whipped milk.
No grief. Just offering some thoughts. Great video. Keep up the good work.
Yes, you only need a little bit.
Been using the cream since black Friday 2014. My first one lasted almost a year shaving every other day and skipping weekends. A little goes a long way. I like it much better than a puck I tried.
Nick, I dont mind the soap but the scent of the balm isnt all that flash (but it works, just smells a ~little~ bit like off cheese). As a coincidence im posting my review of the body shop travel kit Ive modded/upgraded for travel use. I think the amazon definch (version 2) is like the RR/Mission, but wow on the sound! Oh RR do it cheaper if you buy three things in the BUILD A KIT option too FYI. I think you might like GingersGardens Suede Balm Nick, its worth every cent IMO.
And the scent is captivating!
Love your videos. Any chance you will review the Geo F Trumper Lime Cream?
Hi nick. I like the lather reviews a lot but if leaving them out leads to more shaves then I`m all for that. Take care doc.
+Brian B. Thanks! Its a definite barrier and I think I can get more soap reviews in without them
Always enjoy your reviews. Have you tried or seen Australian Gold shave cream? I saw it in a store today, the tube looks like a sunscreen lotion container.
It's under $10 on Amazon right now, so if u wanna try it out now is the time. P.s. The shave cream is amazing
I can't find it for under $15 on Amazon. Can you please link me
I just bought the captain's choice north aftershave and was really impressed. a step above clubman for sure. smells like a gin and tonic
+Will Edmonson It does smell like Gin and Tonic - good call. I like CC a lot, their Bay Rum is my favorite
Awesome reviews! Now I get personnas only, never had such a line up or clean shave with any other blades. An Elegance shave gel would be awesome.
I love Maca Root Shave Cream. To me it smells like lily of the valley. Nice shave Doctor.
Great review as usual. Post shave though....is there any reason why don't you put the balm on first as a barrier to stop the alcohol of the aftershave burning and/or drying out the skin?
+1928flash I think the alcohol on the skin first helps to close my pores, so I do that first
was just wondering if you have ever tried the dove aftershave balm as like yourself I used nivea post shave but I find dove better moisturising and more relieving after my shave.
+nick shaves A great video Nick. The Macca Root From The Body Shop should be in every gentlemens shave den. I don't think there is a razor it can't handle. I use it with the accompanying Macca Root shave balm. TBS are now owned by L'Oréal
+Mike Sumner I didn't know that L'Oreal owned them! Its a great shave cream
I know. Hard to believe. June 2012.
Here's a link for any that are interested.

Excellent video I too have purchased the Maca Root for use with my straight and DB razors and I like the ease of use this cream offers. Keep up the good videos, thanks
I've just bought a pack of the Personna blades from the US Amazon store. It's supposed to contain 100 blades, but mine only had 99 blades. I'm wondering if this is production variability; cheating by Personna; or some thief in the delivery chain, shaving at the customer's expense. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with the high tolerance for tedium required to count the package contents before use. I wish the blades came in a sealed pack. It's my experience that bulk packs are often short
oh yea can you also do a shave with the razorback plissoft brush thank you
the lather review is nice but not necessarily a must maybe just add your overall thoughts never the less another great video
+JoeA418 Thanks for letting me know!
Can you make a buyers guid on shaving brushes for beginners
I've surfed through your channel and i could have missed a similar subject video
If you've already made a video in the past i'll probably find it sooner or later .
Thanks for the amazing content .
I enjoy the lather reviews. In a perfect world you'd have time to do both and more. They're kind of a luxury though. If you have cut them off to keep making actual review and shave vids, that's OK with me.
Very good cream
I like the shave videos the most so cutting lather reviews out would be fine. I also would share that out of all the you tube channels I follow I like you the best by far!! I live in NH, not far from you I think. I hope if there is another wet shaving gathering in Boston area I would know about it and be able to attend!
Chris
Hi nick i took your advice about the most used products of 2015
And got me some shaving gear ,
But my brush kind of shed off a few hairs every time i leather my soap
Is this normal for a new badger hair brush before breaking in period
Or did i buy a lemon
hello nick.
new to double edge shaving seem to be happy with polsilver..can you review turkish blades made by gillette 'perma sharp' also theres range of shaving creams by derby and akro
thxs
Got mine from Ulta for 10 bucks in an online sale last week.
love this cream. never let's me down. All you DE shavers check out Kevy shaves on RUclips. He's a Scottish DE shaver and his videos are great and he's a great fella too.
How do you compare it with taylor of old bond street shaving creams?
In the German online stores their exists a double blade razor named Razolution. What do you think about that? I don't dare to use it.
+Werner S Link?
Thanks for the reviews Nick! Just a quick question as I have been DE shaving for only a few months. I notice on your 2nd and 3rd passes you only go top to bottom on your chin and neck. Is there a reason for this? Thanks
+Kid Doc These are more sensitive areas for me, so I stick with the grain to avoid irritation
i really dont like the price per oz because it really doesnt say anything. Theres klar shaving soap quintiple milled and its quite expensive at 30 bucks a tin but it lasts 5-6 months so its an excellent value. MDC as you know lasts absurdly long, in comparison to tabac. MDC was calculated to be approx. 16 cents a shave and tabac was calculated at 19 cents a shave.
I get a great shave with this soap, a must try for everyone.
+Eysteinn Eysteinsson Good to know! Its a great cream, I was very impressed
hey nick shaves can you do a full review on the razorback mission safety razor
The ipad app limited the length of my last comment. When I said bulk packs, I meant generally, rather than specifically to blades. I've had bulk packs of screws and other fasteners etc being short. Most people are never going to check these kinds of things, but they have an impact on the value for money they offer.
Nick you familiar with white birch & tobacco shave butter from tri coastal design?
What's blooming mean???
Hey Nick what blade did you use for this shave?
I have it, and it's a good performer, it does remind me of my mothers creams when I was a boy ;) You keep doing your reviews, they are greatly appreciated.
Hey Nick what is your favorite razor blade to get a close even clean shave? I currently use Dorco blades and derby blades.
+Anthony Quadrato Either Personna or Voskhod
+nick shaves thank you big fan of your videos i watched almost all of them in 1 day keep it up
well you never reply but i will give it a try and ask questions:
i am beginner thinking about going this way -
tell me best razor blades,
best shaving cream
best brand razor handle and
what else do I need to start shaving this way.
I see that you are shaving more than once. why? would shaving 1 time not suffice for good shave?
thanks
wet shaving is about beard reduction, not complete removal in one pass. doing so would cause a lot of irritation. the idea is to be patient and take some off each pass, and the different directions helps get a closer shave
Smells kinda floral with hints of rose.
Hey Nick what blade did you use for this shave? Thanks!
+lifelearner84 Personna Lab blue!
A separate lather review is overkill. You can knock it out while you're doing the shave review.
+Many Vices Thanks for letting me know!
What soap/cream has a slickness that you would give a 10?
+katfish no Barrister and Mann, Stirling, Phoenix, tallow Razorock soaps, Mike's, Reef Point - among others!
I do love Stirling Executive Man.
Why is it I buy a few months worth of razor blades, and you tube fills my feed with videos of guys shaving?
I want that semougue brush but I'm afraid it won't have enough backbone for harder soaps. Anyone have experience?
it has plenty of backbone for hard soaps, no problem there whatsoever. The only (minor) complaint I have is it doesn't hold a heap of lather, being a small knot.
I don't know if Semogue makes a bad brush.
+Rob G buy an omega, semogue brushes are awful and hold way too little lather.
+qwergg Ridiculous statement. You can't generalise an entire Brand on the few you've probably tried. I have Semogues that hold huge amounts of lather (6 passes worth). Similarly, there are Omegas that hold little lather. Not going to write off a whole company for it though...
I primarily bowl lather so that shouldn't be a problem. I can always go back to my bowl for the extra lather needed. Thank you for the response
Nice shave baby
Hello Nick. Just watched your video was looking to buy this product but wanted to research it first. Thanks for the video. But I do have a question about your hair and the way it's cut. First off I like the style is there a name for your cut? Also what kind of products do you use on your hair. Shampoo conditioner styling products and so on. If you don't mind would love to hear back from you. Thanks William
Are you planning on doing a dedicated full review of the RazoRock mission? Although you did a quick review in this video. Unless people watch this video they are going to miss it because your title only describes the Body Shop Maca Root Shave Cream.
I always get hiccups when I brush the left side of my face and neck, what should I do?
Hmm, apparently the creatine helps energize and boost skin vitality... not sure how that works but I assume it's all been tested and their claims have been validated #whistles
+BigDxxxx1 Haha! My face muscles have noticeably grown since using this soap
+nick shaves Yeah, it's the David Coulthard jawline Nick #deadgiveaway
I have been using Body Shop for years but this cream disappointed me when they did away with the original coconut based product. It no longer has a UV filter built in to the product and no Vitamain E. The price is one third more than the original product yet has these omissions. i
+keefyification I have heard that before, that the original formulation was better
+nick shaves It happened when the company was sold by Anita Ruddick and shareholders got involved via privatisation.
Aww i actually cant stand the smell of this one i remember, razorock soaps smell sooo much better!
+KJ YALI Razorock makes some of the best scents out there for sure! I do like this scent too, its mild and pleasant
+nick shaves I bought it cause they had a special on it wit their brush andd their aftershave for a good price I cant rembr how much tho.. Still hav the brush and after shave, threw out the soap 😆
cause of the smell 😷
I don't think you need to do the lather reviews separate from the shave. You always comment on the lather of any soap as you're applying anyways. And as everybody has their own lather techniques they would have to find a way for it to work for them regardless.
True
One of the best performing shaving creams that I've tried, but, the scent it's just not for me. I really hate the way it smells, like when you crush a chamomile flower between your fingers and smell your hand afterward. I definitely recommend finding a physical store and smelling it before buying.
Lather review is a waste of time. One nice shaving video is plenty.
+Chris Baskett Thanks for letting me know!
+Chris Baskett if it's a waste of time don't watch it. i like his videos :]
If you got time watch it, he asked for my opinion so I gave it. If you want to watch somebody put lather in their hand, go for it.
+Chris Baskett i think nicks shaving videos are very entertaining , i like to see all the lesser known creams , and soaps - shaving is a mans thing , women have their makeups , us blokes have our shaving time... Nicks razor reviews have helped me buy the 34c , what a lovely razor - ideal for a new shaver who's a little worried about cutting themselves , and lets face it - if you cut yourself when you start this art , your probably revert back to those silly plastic cartridge razors - leave our nick alone please!!!! - and nick if you read this, carry on your good work fella .
Chris Baskett thx I will. maybe u'll shave my arse while ur at it. ;)
Now being found at TJ Maxx for $4.99 for the tub reviewed above.
I picked it up for $6.40 at The Body Shop. I wonder why they're selling it at closeout prices. Perhaps they're going to change the packaging or the formula? That said, I came back to watch this after seeing it last year before I bought the cream. It's excellent and provides great slickness and cushioning regardless of the inclusion of triethanolamine.as an ingredient. I think Nick used a bit too much. I take a half inch's worth and put it in a bowl. Add a few drops of water and there's enough for more than 3 passes.
nice name XD
The lather reviews were helpful when there were new artisans popping up left and right. I think the Wild West era of new soap makers has calmed down, so I don't need to see products that closely anymore. This format is fine, even though it means your poor Whipped Dog may never see the light of day again. :'(
Good grief! I'm not sure what is worse, the bro science or the vocal fry. You also remind me a bit of Donald Trump with the "really, really, very, very" usage. How is it that you think your first time using both a new razor and cream can provide enough information to adequately judge and review these products? How is price per ounce a relevant measure of value? Is it possible that you might need more or less product for an adequate shave?
Thanks for posting! It's true, with more use the fine nuances of products can be seen, but in one use it is quite easy to tell how the overall product performs. Price per ounce is not be any means a gold standard, as product use can vary between soaps and creams, it's meant simply to be used as mark for the overall amount of product you will receive for your money.
Additionally, these are only my opinions and shouldn't be confused with science/research. And, I am not an expert, so these are merely the opinions of a guy who shaves
+nick shaves Diplomacy- A+. Great video Nick.
Thanks!
+nick shaves I'd never confuse this content for anything other than some guy's opinion. You literally could substitute the name of any shave soap/cream for "Body Shop Maca Root" and you'd have any one of your other videos, minus the customized affiliate links that is.
