Hey so I just bought the stage 1 tune for my 6 speed automatic 2012 jetta, but I held off on the transmission tune because I didn’t know if it was needed to make the rpm limit higher, or will it do that with just the stage 1 tune driving in manual mode
I'm quite pleased w/ the Stage1 & trans tune on my Mk6 wagon. Also added a P-flow short ram intake. The intake, does hurt the low RPM torque, as I'd seen predicted by dyno test. However, engine starts to come alive about 3K and then really wakes up @ 4K all the way to 6500K. Pulls really hard. Different car now. Exhaust is stock. Like to get suitcase muffler delete, but sorta done throwing money at this thing. Induction noise is glorious. BTW: the tune for the auto trans doesn't make it change gears quicker or significantly change shift points.....just allows the engine to exceed factory redline. Best performance is the 'manumatic' mode, rather than sport, but cool by me as I like shifting. No weird quirks with tune, very well executed code. GTI suspension, chassis bracing, upgraded brakes and Eagle f1 tires. Fun car.
I'm not an expert but from what I've read and seeing dyno charts (not from my car) short ram intakes hurt low end torque. Now if I wanted to be rigorous, I'd reinstall the stock airbox to see, but basically too lazy. Also, I installed the P-flow at same time as the tune, so I don't have a baseline. Anyway, I like the induction noise so much, I don't really care. This thing is quicker than a stock GTI of the era. I did a hard pull yesterday on a road behind my house that doesn't get much traffic. Not terrible scientific, I set my phone countdown timer to 7 sec. think it might be in that range. Despite no real launch control, pressed brake, mashed the throttle, released brake and hit start on phone. The alarm sounded as the car hit 62, meaning 0-60 something like 6.9 sec. This was w/ tipronic in sport mode, running 93 octane. Peak rpm about 7.1K. anyway if I were you, install tune, see what happens and decide later if you want intake. Have fun!
I would start w/ the tune and stock airbox, then add the intake later if desired. I installed both at the same time, so have no baseline. If I weren't' so lazy, I'd temporarily put the stock airbox back, to see. It may be childish, but I like the noise from the p-flow enough to not care if it actually gives more power. The car is seriously quick. Timed 0-60, 6.9-7.0 sec, which is a full second quicker than a stock mk6 GTI. Tipronic in sport mode, 93 octane, max rpm 7.1K. With the GTI springs and brakes and Eagle F1 tires, it will dance on a back road. Of course, like any FWD car, physics comes into play, and it eventually understeers when really pushing. The Koni sport shocks being so stiff in the rear end help mitigate, but understeer will always be there. One can run stiffer rear sway bars to reduce, but eventually you'll introduce lift off oversteer, and I'm not a good enough driver to deal w/ that. So mine is a mild upgrade from stock. Car is a riot to drive, but still practical. IE nailed the programming. Behaves like stock, but really wakes up on the throttle. Impressive gains, especially in torque on an NA motor. I love the 2.5. This gen. is basically bulletproof. Of course I do rigorous maintenance. I drive so little, I have oil changed each season regardless of milage. Plugs and upgrade Bosch coil packs also installed w/ tune. Get the tune and have fun!!
sorry for double post. Thought first one did not upload. Anyway......another quick thought. Yes, I think the P-flow causes a power sag at low rpm. But keep in mind, that the tune can't really add much at all to stock at low rpm. I'm assuming it does its thing by advancing the spark timing (hence need for premium fuel) and remapping the air/fuel flow, plus removing the rev limiter to allow higher max rpm. To get power you have to add more air and more fuel. So if you drive it hard, expect your milage to go to hell. But the beauty of the tune, is if you drive like a sane person....you won't notice a change.
I see a lot of the 2.5 5 pots for sale. I'm really considering one in wagon form. Noticably cheaper than the other engine options around here. Flipside is...a diesel could be an option as well
Hey man, I have the same car and I’m about to do the tune and get the same clutch kit as well. I just stumbled on your video. Thank you for it. My question is, how is the flywheel/clutch “chatter” sound on your car with that kit? Is it really annoying? I know it depends a lot on the engine and I know the clutch disk does dampen some. Let me know as a please. Ps: Awesome video by the way.
Haha thanks man. The clutch chatter is noticeable when in neutral with the clutch pedal released. I think it’s more the throw out bearing. Its not noticeable when driving or when stopped with the pedal in. Hope that helps. The clutch is awesome.
Bought my 09 for 750. Had to do some work but not more than 500. Brake booster was leaking. Couldnt get a seal so i siliconed it with the old seal and hasnt leaked a drop.
@@VoyageRC Pretty good so far. From what I can tell nothing really different than what you have. They sent me the tune but I don’t think I can flash it with APR being there already, so can’t really compare it 100%
Hell yeah man!!!
What will happen if I put this tune on a 2006 2.5?

@@its_kevin3789 so did the tune itself raise the rev limiter at all or did you have to go and buy the trans tune as well?

Glad you like it! Induction noises on this platform are amazing. The exhaust will overpower it if you go crazy.
If one wanted to increase low rpm torque , would one install only the IE tune, and not the air intake? Or do both improve mid-upper?

Finally someone modding they 2.5 i thought everyone gave up on my baby 😭
07k is a great engine. Gaining popularity.
Just bought my 08 Jetta a month ago 🔥

I noticed hopefully we see more people doing mods

The 2.5 is a very stout engine.
I agree especially on a daily the tune is worth it. I went UM but same difference. Driveability was much nicer!
Drive ability is so much better!
I know this is 2 years later but did you get some crackles with the UM tune?
@@Stooger44 Yep
drove past you today car looks sick
Thank you! I saw you behind me and heard you on the loud pedal after I turned. 🤣
@@VoyageRC haha yup that was me
Sick
What is the impact of those 15 horsepower on your acceleration? And also the increased rev limiter
Numbers are not going to show much difference on paper. The car drives so much better with the tune though. It’s definitely worth it.

Hows that old five speed doin? I'm involuntarily doing a six speed swap lol, mine deleted its diff
I haven’t done a diff delete yet 🤣 It’s still holding strong. I may or may not be doing a 6spd swap in the near future 🤫
Where in az are you located? We should cruise sometime, I’m in Yuma
Did the tune give you pops and crackles? I’m trying to find a tune for my 1.8t mk6 Jetta
This one did introduce pops and crackles even though it is not labeled as a “crackle” tune.
Where did you get you front grille
Hey do I need the power link, and the tune? Wanna get this for my 08 Jetta 2.5
Yes, you need both. The powerlink is what you use to flash the tune. Its also an OBD scanner 😜

what shifter/boot do you have on there?
ECS billet shift knob with the stock boot
