Yep, I noticed that. That bit confused me in the episode. Hope that's not some official term they use elsewhere in relation to consuming snails because it's just inaccurate. They're all just invertebrates.

Well, I learned France still has overseas possessions I didn't know about. But my high school world history paper was on the French Revolution, I studied French in college under a professor from Lyon, I studied the history of the Franks from the Roman days up through Charlemagne, and the European wars have always been fascinating to me. It's kind of funny though that the regions in the countries of Europe are more along tribal lines whereas the states in the US are wherever somebody decided to draw a line on a map.
Yes, whereas the borders between European countries are probably more the result of wars and politics I think,! For example, if I as a Dutchman travel to the Flanders region in the North of Belgium, I can speak Dutch! But as a result of the outcome of certain wars/politics, we do not live in a unified country! Some people would say, luckily not! 😅 Although we get along nowadays! My father spend his youth in the northeastern province of Groningen. Whenever he visits the part of Germany right accross the border, he notices that people can talk to him in the particular Groningen dialect, which is way different from standard Dutch or German. So borders between countries feel often quite artificial in Europe! Luckily, after ww2 we have learned to live peacefully together and deal with our conflicts in a peaceful manner!
The us still has over sea possessions and I believe the UK still has possessions overseas as well

When I was a student in France, I had many great experiences and saw many great sites. One particular happy memory was taking a course on the French Impressionist painters. The French professor was very informative and he made learning very interesting and enjoyable. I had the opportunity to see the Jeu de Paume Museum, which exhibited the works of Monet, Manet, Renoir, and others. The Jeu de Paume Museum was at that time, and perhaps still is, a part of the famous Louvre Museum in Paris. I was very fortunate as well to see La Jaconde, the Mona Lisa, which is also in the Louvre. I agree that all countries have their up and down sides, but that we should love our countries and do our own part to make them even better. I think we’re all better off when the world is at peace, so that peoples can pursue and live meaningful and happy lives. Vive la paix! Vive une monde paisible.

Wow! What a super video, Marie! I learned so, so much in just a few minutes. I always knew about the close bond between France and the USA, and I know how much we love to insult each other, but it always comes from our mutual history and respect. What I learned more about, is France's influence on the rest of the world that continues today. By the way, all those unusual French Foods, I have enjoyed for years, especially Escargot!. I love it! And, although I believe there are many West Coast of the USA wines that are equal to those of France, the vines they are all using, originated in France, so, in a sense, all wines are French wines! Lord knows, I do my part for the wine market!😁 Love you, Marie! Keep the great videos coming! 😊😘

Bonjour Marie! Yes, that channel is fun! Yeah, a few things have changed since the video posted, most interestingly is that the Blue on the French flag was darkened last year...and nobody seemed to realize it until recently! Bonne journee! ~Be Blessed
The blue shade has came back to its original color that was changed by Valéry Giscard d'Estaing in 1974. BTW, the original flag colour hasn't been modified in French navy ships in 1974. And French navy flag colors repartition isn't identicall : blue 30%, white 33% and red 37%.

Actually I really admire french by keeping their language and culture very well compare to other European countries which most of them are influenced by American and English language and their culture.
Wich one? The UK is the only european country ive seen over americanized,, other european countries just consume the typical music and series from the USA but that doesnt mean they give up their whole culture, the same of you consume french music or movies

I went to high school (boarding school) in western Switzerland and Escargot was a fairly regular menu item in the dining room for suppers. I loved it and still do.
His presentation of French history was similar to the TGV. A high-speed rendition of facts and features that went by rather quickly. I know I will be entertained and informed by any video that you share. This proves that you have a great command of the English language because you were able to follow him without having to pause frequently.

I read a very good book on France just a few years ago. The author made the point that through history, right up to fairly recently, there were both multiple different languages spoken in what is now France, and also that the many dialects of French were quite different from each other, and that the current 'French' language was just the dialect of the capital and court, a quite small area. France was a truly diverse place through much of its history.
That rivalry is so real!! At least, it was back in 1995, when as a footballer for the US Navy, we beat the French Navy, 2-1. The secret was we had immigrants from Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Jamaica and Philippines on our team. They were so mad!!! 😂🤣

JAQUES BREL IS BELGIAN !!! Walonian to be precise, although he alsoo sang in Flemmish/dutch. I am a fan of him and I grew up next to the Belgian border in the Netherlands. They could named claimed Charles Aznavour instead.
That's true. The confusion is often made because he was French speaker, and he often flirted with the world of French song.
My encounters with French speaking persons: Quebec (Kebehk), metis of St. Boniface (Winnipeg), tourist taking motorcycles on a Route 66 roadtrip, 7th Day Adventist from Martinique visiting Cahokia Mounds and Battle Creek, Michigan, Belgian tourist doing the Western Loop in the U.S., Cajuns, the Underground in Montreal, French adjuncts/pilots at Scott AFB military airlift command, the varied French speakers along the Gaspe and New Brunswick coast of Canada, French tourist at the International Peace Tower in Winnipeg (an odd place because not normally a tourist destination). A tour manager who became a personal friend who is half Apache and half French (origins) and usually accompanied me to Canada, and Re-enactments at the Old French Fort Chartre in Illinois. Records of Colonial Pay Du Illinois and Colonial Louisiana are found mainly in Quebec (those that survive).

Il y a quelques erreurs, quand-même. J'en ai parlé dans le commentaire à un RUclipsr américain qui y a réagi, Foreign Reacts, il me semble. Entre autres, les escargots ne sont pas des insectes... Puis il a omis de parler de la situation un peu particulière de l'Alsace et de la Moselle, où on parle le francique (mosellan en Moselle, allemanique en Alsace).

Bonjour 😃 December the first. I see why France remains everyone's favourite destination. There's a lot to digest from Paul's videos with his quickfire style, young students from around the 🌐 would love it. I find it Intriguing leaning about what it means to be quintessentially french beyond just the usual clichés.
Looking at a map(I'm putting one up on the wall) with all those regions having their own character, custom's & history along with the glorious countryside 🏞️ & of course the cafe life ☕ 🧀 🐚 fine 🍷 and your more appreciative of the Art's is what keeps people like me coming back for more. 🎓Trivia : ancient snails from Pyrenees have been found as far a field as Ireland.
It's been educational , having watched it again not knowing much about the Dom Tom, the islands off Australia, and people's dream of paradise 'Tahiti'. The second largest economic zone was news to me.
Going back to the mainland ,i found it a little worrying that there's a parasite you might have been exposed to , thankfully you appear to be immune to such negative attitudes.
There's so much as a country you have to proud & fortune for Marie , maybe it takes a outsider like me to remind you all of it.

As for Paris 🗼 does everyone else who isn't from there feel the same way as you , it's probably because there's to many tourists (a lot of them Japanese) every big city see's itself as the centre of the universe.

Same in Germany,usually. But France & Germany suffers from what we call "Americanization".
I think its ok that the majority of the Radio is in its regional language. There was a time when almost every French & German copied US-American hits and translated them. Originality suffered by focusing on Anglo-American Art. In a true sense, French music-culture would have developed much differently without the World War but same stands for Germany.

are those food considered not normal in outside? I live in Brazil and Brazil is descendent of Portugal, so these types of meat are considered normal here too, and well, there also is some things considered "weird" that only exist here
I sometimes think about what my life might be like if my family hadn't been exiled from France. Maybe today I would be living there instead. My ancestors were Huguenots. I believe only one male made it to the United States, I can't trace my family back past that. I wonder what happened to the others, if they were killed or left somewhere else. That guy found love here and had sons who ended up fighting for independence here.
That was very entertaining and informative. It may be a more effective means of educating the current generation who want their knowledge to come in short bursts.

As a French, travelling a lot in France, DOM-TOM and Nothern/Western EU, I expected more updates from this video.
About worktime, retirement and so on.. In France there is a standard model for wortime (35H/Week), Retirement (64 yo now). But this is just a model and this is NEVER respected in non-fully public work. You have a 35H contract, but you have to work more to not being fired and you won't have one more €.
If you take a look of the effective private employment worktime in France, it is 46.7H/week (which is higher than the EU average), The real full retirement law is 67yo (64 is the right to retire. this means you cant retire BEFORE 64, but a longtime after is possible and for financial purpose you often won't retire before 67).
New Caledonia voted (3 times) to remain in France.
France unconventional meat consuption is decreasing very fast as well as for raw meat and snails (and for toxoplasma gondii... every countries are exposed, french rate is just higher by a very little percentage).
Strikes are worse and worse, that's true, because it is loosing all it's social advantage very fast. The Macron's governement (since 2017) is liberal, hates social protection and i's the first one to totally ignores strikes. If you ignore someone who screams, he will scream louder.
France is not as well ranked for tourism. Population and yearly tourist are almost equal for now.
France behaviour about US and UKhas to sides. The side which kind of likes US/UK stay the same, but the side hating US (especially) is growing fast.
The "agricultural goldmine" suffers from climatic changes 4 times faster than world average. I don't have exact ranking for this point but I'm pretty sure that soil resilience is at EU average by now.

Marie, you could react to the most famous, fictional, "Not a Frenchie, but a Belgie" of all time, Monsieur Hercule Poirot, the famed detective created by Dame Agatha Christie.
As a french person I absolutely love every Agatha Christie works. I am a huge fan of the series "Hercule Poirot" starring David Suchet which been broadcast on french tv for several years in a row.
We also have our own successful french adaptation called "les petits meurtres d’Agatha Christie" for some years now. The series exist since 2008 and are are divided in 3 different periods of time, the 50’s, the 60’s and 70’s with 3 different cast.
It depict 3 different teams solving the plots from A. Christie’s books, all universes combined (Poirot, Marple, and others separated novels). The set of the series is the northern part of France pretty close from England.

Forgive me if I misheard, but when he said there are rules that radio broadcasts must be of at least 40% French origin and at least 70% in French language, I thought you said that isn't true. If I heard you right, is it something that used to be true? I know here in the US, depending on the area, you can find a lot of Spanish language radio stations. But then again, the US does not have an official language. English is the primary language, but we don't have an official language.
I think it used to be true and might still be. I don’t listen to the radio enough anymore to say, so I’ll have to check on the internet 😊

Perso pour les escargots je n'ai pas compris, je ne connais personne qui en mange fréquemment ou même par simple occasion comme à noël comme tu le disais, du coup je me disais que ça doit vachement dépendre de l'endroit

les escargots ne sont pas des insectes mais des "gastéropodes" du mot Grec qui veut dire littéralement " ventre-pied " leurs nourritures principales sont les végétaux ,: salades , feuilles herbes etc ... et avant qu'ils arrivent dans nos assiettes , il y a quatre à cinq jours de préparations . et en manger 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔est moins dégueulasse que la cuisine anglaise 🤮🤮🤮🤮, et moins nocive que la cuisine américaine 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

As an update, on the "production front" You could've said that in the past 15 years we sold every means of production we had therefore relinquishing a big part of our sovereignty to the EU (usa). We can't produce much now and are on the brink of a disastrous winter.

Salut ! Je suis Français et je ne sais si cela t'a étonné aussi, mais comment a -t-il eu des statistiques ethniques ? Sur la population il parle de 90% de blancs et 10% de non blancs en gros (ça doit être bien plus par ailleurs maintenant) . Techniquement les stats ethniques sont interdites en France... Autre chose, sur le même sujet, c'est que les Anglo-saxons ont moins de tabous que nous concernant l'existence d'un "français de souche" et sur la génétique. Ils sont plus décomplexés là dessus et n'hésite pas à en parler comme un truc normal alors qu'ici on ne pourrait pas vraiment traiter ce sujet de cette manière. Et je suis d'accord avec toi, évidemment la vidéo montre uniquement les beaux sites et moins nos milliers de magnifiques ronds points par exemple ou encore les entrées de de nos villes qui ont été saccagées ces 30 dernières années...
La France se veut universaliste, on considère que n'importe qui peut devenir français et que ça n'est pas une question d'ethnie. Bon après ça c'est la théorie mais vu que ces questions sont en permanence relancées dans la société, c'est pas tellement le cas...
Pour les statistiques ethniques, il y a plusieurs possibilités :
- Il a pris de vieilles statistiques (l'interdiction des stats ethniques date de 2007, c'est pas si vieux) et à ce moment-là, ces chiffres sont obsolètes et je pense que les proportions ne sont plus les mêmes aujourd'hui (je passe outre le côté totalement arbitraire du blancs, noirs et maghrébins).
- Il se base sur des statistiques faites en regardant les flux migratoires, ce qui est autorisé en France, tu n'as pas le droit de faire des trucs en regardant la couleur de peau ou quoi mais tu peux demander aux gens s'ils se sentent appartenir à une autre ethnie. Tu as aussi le droit de regarder la nationalité des naturalisés avant qu'ils ne deviennent français (ou qu'ils aient la double nationalité), les prénoms également...
Bref t'as pas mal de choses qui sont toujours possibles pour avoir ce genre de chiffres.
Par contre oui, tu sors des stats comme ça en France tu t'en prends plein la tronche.

Wow, bonne chance avec ça, c'est pourquoi l'Europe occidentale devient une blague, il sera difficile de trouver une personne blanche dans un pays européen en Europe occidentale dans quelques années ?? quelle tragédie. S'il s'agissait d'une immigration contrôlée qui ne garantissait pas un remplacement ethnique, d'accord, mais les gouvernements d'Europe occidentale sont si pathétiques, j'en doute.

Correction from a French person, horse butcheries were closed in 1986, and it's a product that is not in supermarkets, so to speak, horse meat has not been consumed in France for a long time, except maybe by one or two old farmers here and there. The idea here is that consuming horse meat is seen as akin to consuming a pet nowadays.

It's kind of impossible to gauge how the US is, even if you're a native here. Seriously, the country is so ludicrously massive and has so many different cultures and people groups. Wouldn't listen to GN from a scholarly perspective, but they have a substantial amount of research on the countries they cover, especially in the newer episodes.

Mostly french don't like immigration just like Poland and Hungary. I can consider french is more racist then the other region compare to Germany, Spain, and UK. The french police is always ask ID from skin coloured people but not white people. They always say that migrant come to France just to enjoy their rich and take their money away. It's so many negative thought of french to thier children too, do not talk to skin coloured people, because of they are poor and they steel your money etc. White French is not friendly at all, they react friendly when they need something from you, look for help or ask for money.
