- It’s time to update one of more popular videos on face painting for scale models and figures or busts. This is a reworked and updated video on painting 1/35th scale figures which has been made for Derrel Eves 30-day Creator Challenge.
Our previous 2013 video on painting 1/35th scale figures with Vallejo Acrylics is here:
• PAINTING FIGURES' FACE...
This is a simple non-elitist step-by-step “Top 10 Tips” video guide to painting figures' faces using Vallejo's excellent Model Color range. It’s aimed at everyday figure painting and our background is predominantly armour modelling. Experimenting with painting busts has definitely changed the way we paint 1/35th scale figures. Here's how...
This beginner tutorial from www.scalewarmachines.com is aimed at novice modellers & AFV model makers looking to paint realistic faces for their figures. It is not a masterclass, rather a simple 10 tip technique for effective results. It should be accessible and simple to follow for beginners and intermediates alikes. If you want to watch a long-winded masterclass, check out one of the expert figure painter channels on You Tube instead.
We have tried to add alternative techniques for those of you who do not use airbrushes.
We hope you enjoy this and that it inspires you to try your hand at the tips.

Lock down has been a skills builder for me but still need to get my figure painting better. Perfect timing, thank you.
This is the sequel I have been waiting for! Thank you!
*Many thanks for this tutorial, painting figures is a giant step in modelling hobby! 👍*
Your figure's painting vids are always excellent!
It's very nice work ! I learned a lot from your painting skill. Actually, I think there are many unique painting materials. Also I learned a lot from them.
I'm happy that I could watch such as video. Thank you !!
Great tips, thanks. I'm new to painting figurines, and this was helpful.
I painted my first 1/35th figure last week and all came out great except the face. Thanks for this video.
Crackin channel mate, one of the best as a guy just getting back into the hobby
😁👌
Well done Sir, well done indeed.
thank you very very much! this video is amazing and it helps me a lot
Thanks for sharing.
Cool thanks for sharing
Great lessons thanks
Great tutorial Martin, thanks! 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow Great Vid mate. I have always been afraid to paint figures as my skill level is lower than the one needed to paint a bloody great tank>
Gives me confidence
Boy is this helpful for me. I’m off to get the Vellajo paints and some fine point brushes
Been following you sir ! I'd say your videos are awesome 🙂👍🏻👍🏻
Could Please do some different skin tones
Great information, thanks. What type of eye apparatus do you use or recommend thank you. At my age I need all the help I can get.
Don't use one yet but that time is rapidly approaching. Suggest looking in the Expo catalogue or Micromark in the States for magnifier head rig set ups.
Please make video about using emal colors
Good 👏👏👏
I made airplanes on 1/48 scale and start to work with dioramas but I’m terrible with the figures, my question is: this technic work with 1/48? What you advice me for my figures? I’m sorry for my bad english
Great videos love the work you guys do. A question regarding scale. If i build 1:35 tank are the figures also 1;35 scale?
That is correct
@@scalewarmachines thanks so much forngetting back to me. True professionals, Thanks so much once again👍🇨🇦👍
Hi. Does the Vallejo matt varnish go dead matt? And do you airbrush or brush it? And do you thin it? Have you tried the polyurethane matt varnish? What are your thoughts on that anyone? Thanks so much.
It goes Matt - much more so than the paints. It also unifies everything. Is it dead Matt - not quite - it can have a cloudy chalky effect if used too thickly. Apply by airbrush thinned with Vallejo airbrush thinners.
Great tutorial. I noticed that you spray only a fine coat of Klear. How much time does it need to dry?
Only 20 minutes maximum.
@@scalewarmachines Thanks
What company or brand are the busts that were in the beginning. The Fury one and the Captain Winter's. I'd really like to look into getting those
Generally Young Miniatures of Korea. Excellent Busts. Captain Winters however is a Nuts Planet release. Also of Korea, also excellent, though Young Miniatures has just released a Damian Lewis/ Captain Winters bust too.
@@scalewarmachines Thank you very much for the information. I greatly appreciate it.
Can you use the techniques to paint arms and legs
Yep sure, that;s what was done with this figure. Same technique.
Hey what was that Judge Dredd kit in this video? Cheers
Dark World Creations (DWC) limited edition resin kit. Not many released...we did a video review, search for Judge Dredd Lawmaster Mk1 DWC on You Tube.
Ashens?
The problem is how do I get my hands steady :| I'm shaking all over the place. I need to lock my entire body and hand AND hold my breath so that I don't do anything I hate. I get request to paint models but I rather not do it, sticking to painting props lol
I wish I could find a way :\
Thnx +1
I lock my hands together, plant my elbows in my sides and hold breath. you have to plant brush hand onto hand that holds object. This steadys hands very well. good luck shaky!
Try a little weed 👌
I can’t help but notice that the figures’ lips are green...he doesn’t look very healthy....
