I really like that you pointed out that the submissive, joyfully available mentality is a disservice to men as well as women. It reduces them down to a carnal, single-minded being incapable of self-control or independent thought and steals the opportunity for fulfilling, rich relationships with their spouses. How lonely must that be, even if you are the patriarch with all the power? Horrific for women, but also not great for the men.

Jinger's come a long way, but there's still farther she can progress in terms of truly believing that within a marriage, each spouse is of equal value and deserves equal say in the decisions married couples and parents of tiny humans come across over time. The big decisions, yes, but also the day-to-day decisions. Jeremy's still got some beliefs that make me uncomfortable as a woman. But I'm not married to him or anyone following his beliefs, so it's up to Jinger.
Oh, and Katie's point about Jinger being the breadwinner really caught my attention! Jinger's STILL under a piece of that umbrella 🌂 of authority if she's intentionally glossing over the fact that she's bringing in the money AND staying home caring for their girls the vast majority of the time. She's protecting Jeremy's image by making herself smaller. I hate that.

Yeah, but like other people have said, a lot of this is because Jeremy has said these things and "allowed" her to have her own voice and take time for herself. And I think Jinger is definitely more self-aware, and thinks about scripture more critically than she ever had before, and is clearly happier than she ever was under her parents or on television (which you can tell because they don't allow anyone to show pictures of their daughters' faces). At the same time...Jeremy doing some of these things and encouraging these thoughts and independence is definitely in part to make her/their image more palatable to their community in Los Angeles and the majority of Americans.

I wanted to say what you said. I would never and I mean never listen to any advice that Michelle Duggar would ever offer. It is clear that this family is uneducated, closed minded and they listen to what others say in a church and apply it to their lives as the divine truth. Look at the mess they have created or caused in their own lives as well as for others. The fact that any of them are offering advice, or even have a platform to offer advice, I find unbelievable. I wouldn't buy a book, watch a TV show, I would never support this family in any way. I do love Katie Joy and I support her and her channel. I also enjoy Katie's point of view, evidence or gossip that she shares and that is the only reason I listen to anything about the Duggar's. My husband is from Arkansas and he told me shortly after we started dating and pursuing a relationship that the Duggar's are hated in Arkansas. He told me the damage that they have caused to the LGBTQ+ community and the political mentality that they support. After he told me the the back story of the Duggar family, I started researching on my on. What has happened with Josh and Anna, with all of the issues concerning Josh and Anna, Michelle and Jim Bob still attempt to cover up, I just don't understand. This is a truly horrible family and never one that I would invest one dime in. If there is a magazine at the grocery store and there is one word mentioned about them on the cover, I refuse to buy the magazine even if there is a story that I want to read. I refuse to give them any money or spend any money on anything that they produce or is produced about them, except Katie Joy.

It was my understanding that, according to Jim Bob, Michelle was living a "sinful life" and had only just barely "found religion" a few months before meeting him. She was ripe for the picking I guess you could say... she had just discovered religion and then JB comes along and she gets starry eyed over him, then some crazy advice is given to her by this friend of hers and she goes all in with JBs religion likely to please him and seem more appealing to him. Why do you think the girls can't wear pants? Those long full skirts hide Josh's hands and what he was doing to his 5 year old sister.....pants would have put his hands on display and where they were. And the shorts the girls started wearing under their skirts? Didn't even slow him down, but the long flowing skirts did a great job of hiding nasty hands. Which I think is the main reason the girls are forced to wear them instead of pants that would have protected the girls a bit better.

Everybody should agree that MICHELLE screwed up royally in being totally available for her man!!! And this fly on the wall wants to say, how well did that work out for Michelle, when rumor has it, JB was doing favors for certain Widows?!?! So, no matter how much Michelle met that Horn Dogs needs, JB was still out there sniffing around elsewhere!!! So, does that mean ALL the DUGGER MEN are ALL SICK PERVERTS?!?! Look at Josh, then at JB. There is something that ain’t right with the men in that family!!! Are they ALL SEX DEVIANTS?!?!

Do these people even understand the exhaustion of new moms? Supposedly Michelle's advice for being "joyfully available" was given to her by a new mom but I have a hard time believing it. Having a new baby is _exhausting_ and some women may have PPD and need extra help. What she does _not_ need at that moment is judgement for not being "joyfully available". She's trying to keep her child alive. That's a huge thing.

Seems to me Jermy's only job is to pose for pictures, shop for Nikes, and eat his way through every expensive eating establishment in LA. When does he even have time to attend classes? During my marriage, happily divorced now 9 years, I was injured during a surgery. I have not been the same since. I live with a lot of medical conditions & issues. I have had more surgeries than I care to remember & procedures that would leave me with a tube coming out of my side draining in a bag at time. My husband would want me to be joyfully available with staples holding my incision closed & sometimes having staples & the drainage tube. The last thing I wanted was sex. I would accommodate him as best as I could. Sometimes he would be joyful & others degrading. He is a narcissist, abuser mentally, emotionally, verbally, & yes sexually. I would be saying “NO” inside but joyfully on the outside. I will never let another man do that to me again!! Thank-you Katy for reminding us that it takes two & both have the right to say NO!!

I distinctly remember her saying after marrying Jeremy he was out at work or something and he had a lot of books on numerous topics. They were there, she could read anything she wanted. As an avid reader and I loved the freedom & sense of safety and comfort a book gave I encourage children to read. I remember an English teachers saying we could read anything, if that was a book, magazine, comic…she didn’t mind, it was reading. I used to love the local library, when I began teaching I knew I wanted to help children enjoy reading. I became the person to were behind, my title for that was chief reading champion 😂 the children were all my reading champions, including the ones who struggled…sadly, there’s two huge reasons why children struggle.
They aren’t developmentally ready for it when basic phonics were taught.
The second is poor teaching, sadly that was 2 friends. 1 taught them at 4/5 and the other at 6. Both thought teaching phonics was a quick flash of the sound and do the action, now off you go and colour in the sheet 😤at a point I had to really push for a group of children to be completely re taught. A couple of years ago I saw the dad of one of the bows. He made me cry, his son was at university!!! All the arguments I had about children missing literacy with their class while they could only pretend write like a toddler made it all worth it. The hours spend making resources…
Another child in the same group was a lovely girl, maybe a bit eccentric, but I was weird anyway and I said you don’t have to be like everyone else. Ok, her mum came to see me for parents evening, parent/ teacher conference and she cried 😢I was so concerned, I asked why and she said no one had EVER said Jessica was doing well in all her time at school.
I was so proud of her one day, she wanted to read to her class, she sat at the front ready with her book, an unkind girl smirked and said “that’s my level book s d she can’t read that” to her neighbour, Jessica read it word perfect! I did have a word about kindness with that little miss!

I now no longer believe in any kind of corporal punishment of children. There are so many other things you can do as a parent. You do not have to hit your children and I agree that teaches them bad things. My husband has two grown daughters who are loving, kind, beautiful women and he never hit them; not even once. He did not use any corporal punishment at all. They knew when he did that "finger snap and point at you" thing they were in deep doo doo. LOL That would probably get their attention even today.

This language from Michelle reminds me of the song “Desiree” by Blood Orange, a song about “working girls” (if you catch my drift, iykyk). the musician used this sound bite:
“If you're married, a woman in the suburbs:
A regular woman is married to her husband,
    And she wants him to buy her a washer and dryer set;
In order for him to buy that,
I'm sure she'd have to go bed with him anyway to give him what he wants
For her to get what she wants.
So in the long run, it all ends up the same way”

I just going to say it out right in truth. This teaching is underneath women, coming from men that are so out of God’s way of marriage. I remember one time, I was three weeks pregnant with our third child. My husband woke me up, told me I needed to iron his shirt for work. I stood in cold basement, no shoes, just a night gown. I was throwing up while I ironed his shirt. I gave it to my husband and told him, “I will never iron another shirt for you again, you heard me throwing up. Yet you did nothing to help me”! I never ironed another shirt of his again.

In a marriage, there are times when either party is "not available" and that's okay. There will be times when both are available, too. That's what marriage is. I have long disagreed with the "joyfully available" preaching because it makes women not much more than a servant. Women are not servants and they are not here to "serve" their husbands. A couple is here to both make the world a better place and to both grow and become everything they are meant to be...together. Michelle Duggar's teaching removes the aspect of that couple trying to make the world a better place and leave it in a better condition than when they found it because she's all about what Jim Bob wants all the time. The world is bigger than Jim Bob.

As someone who has been married to the same man for over 30 years and 3 grown kids later, what a load of crap!!!! Married or not , both of you still have agency over your own bodies. That's what makes a good marriage better, true intimacy comes from love and understanding, not from getting it whenever and whatever you want, ignoring the feelings of the other. That's completely selfish and misses the whole point of being there for each other. If a man leaves because of that, he's horrible and an idiot, and you never had real loving intimacy anyway.
