Interesting new lineup. I saw the original too in the late 90-s? Variety playhouse ATL. I marched backstage like I belonged there & gave Jimmy Herring a joint 😂 Kimock is the man.
I did that at the Variety too. It was Garage a Trois and I was jointless at the moment. They were not impressed. I think it was Charlie Hunter who said 'you're not chicks'.
Come on! This whole section of Alphonso getting it starting at like 10:30... Pete is digging it... I hope this line-up stays together for a few years... I'd like to see where this goes. Thank you Dr. Bob!
Amazing music…so sad to miss!! Only reason is date overlapped with Bob Weir and Bobby is older! (Lol 😅) I’m so hoping for another tour of this tribute, wish I could go On tour, but I’m an RN at the VA hospital in Sacramento. Limited vacation dates. Hope to see you play in the Bay Area or west of way sacramento, Placer county up to Reno! What a treat!!
Saw them in Chicago a few days ago. WOW! Bobby Lee can really play that banjo and through a Leslie amp to boot!! You know this song ain't ever gonna end! Steve, Pete, and Alphonso rocked too. Steve on the slide for stella blue was sublime! The crowd was all chanting "Alphonso" at the end of the show. It was really beautiful, great music, great crowd, small theatre!!
Took me minute to get used to the more laid back version…but, I can hang with, and appreciate the musicality, just felt my pulse drop so quickly, that’s all..lol. Compared to the excitement of Herring & company. I’m trying to be nice, here….😅 I definitely appreciated the surprise laid back feeling and approach. Very nice, as I listen on. Gb
I can’t thank you enough for sharing this. It brought me right back to 1998 when I saw these guys out in Tahoe with a good friend I was visiting in Truckee is this the original lineup?
I saw them years ago in Tampa. I was expecting Jimmy Herring because, I don't know, maybe because he had been on all the albums... anyway, I was not particularly happy to find Steve on guitar. Jimmy has an unmistakable style that's hard to mimic, and obviously, Steve was smart enough to do his own thing, which is okay with me. It wasn't that night years ago, but that wasn't his fault.
Jimmy Herring is probably my favorite living guitarist - seen him in countless situations beginning with ARU all the time in the 90's 'cause I live in Bham AL. Nothing will match that OG JID line-up - or Phil and Friends "The Q".... I will be interested to see where this goes if they stay together for a few years... still light-years better than Dead and Slow....
3 of my favorite musos, Rob, Steve and Jimmy... all of whom I discovered playing with either Phil or Further... so, "Jazz is Dead" will be a fun rabbit hole for me.
Here is a RUclips Playlist of 7 tracks recorded at this show ruclips.net/p/PL70KtwG6T9t4iBsXLMNYodiKfzV8MOXl5
If Jerry can’t be on the vocals, then instrumental version allows me to hear him! Nice job guys.
Alphonso is a beast.
After Dead and Company splits let’s get Chimenti up here…
dead forever man. iko IKO!
God bless this group coming back. Saw them in the 90s with Jimmy herring killing it.
I saw them on that first tour as well, with T Lavitz and Billy Cobham on drums! They brought the house down at the Wild Duck.
Alphonso baby. Ain’t no one better.
Thanks Dr. Bob!
Just checking in half way thru. This is really good / great stuff. Magical… thanks!✨

So pumped for Charlotte!! Alphonso is an absolute beast.
Kimmock can play this catalog in his sleep. What an amazing guitar player.
SO AWEsOME!!!
❤️🍀❤️
Superb!!
beautiful music and playing! LOVE this line up....Would Love to see Jeff Pevar sit in with these guys....THAT would ALSO be mind bendingly good .

A pleasure indeed.

this was spine-chilling good
Absolutely, Steve knows where the truth is.
wow "Dr. Bob"... I know that name :) thanks for all the taping and such over the years!
My pleasure!
Pete wow!!!
Cool
Bob with that Charlie Hunter patch on the banjo 🪕!!

Was a beautiful show in Denver on the 15th. Included entire terrapin station
Love AJ. We wore Alivemotherforia out when we were in college.
they're good
It would be interesting to see a band with Bill on drum , Alphonso on bass, Jack Pearson, and Bobbie on guitar
with maybe Bruce on keys.
Incredible - thank you for posting this. The music is just timeless - I saw them in 1998 because I love the GD and they have been amazing ever since.
Thanks Dr. Bob! Sorry I couldn't make it up there :(
Next time, Greg!

Made me fall asleep..
Didnt know about bobby lee but when i heard that guitar its no surprise to hear the jerry garcia influences 🙌 the dead lives through that tone
The one and only Mr Johnson, what a career, and but for Jaco Alphonso would have been the main man.

No, original lineup was Alphonso, Billy Cobham and Jimmy Herring, I believe.

Really missing the energy Jimmy and Jeff brought to this band. Im sure I'll enjoy though.

When I hear Jazz is Dead I think Jimmy Herring. And not much else.
IMO Steve Kimock is far superior.
3 of my favorite musos, Rob, Steve and Jimmy... all of whom I discovered playing with either Phil or Further... so, "Jazz is Dead" will be a fun rabbit hole for me.
This isn't the Jazz is Dead that I'm familiar with...the one with Jimmy Herring and Rob Baracco are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. IMO
No Jimmy Herring. Not interested.
snooze-fest...zzzzzzz
