bro once again, thank you for being real by making videos like this. i am so so insanely sick of college admissions people online giving the most bizarre tips. please please make more vids like this i appreciate you like crazy
Thank you so much!!! And yes I totally agree re the weird advice that is part of why I started this channel! Really appreciate your support I should have another video out next week :)
bro theres no way i guessed on the last 5 questions of module 2... I remember on paper math, every question was at least went over at school and it was just a matter of being careful. digital is like either ur good at what ur test version gives u or ur cooked.
Thank you so much!! I am going to try to keep up with an active schedule with one video a week so i hope i can keep the helpful advice coming your way. I really appreciate your comment!!
I’ve been looking into anthropology/archaeology a lot recently, because I want to work with history, artifacts, and stories. I love history, but I think I’ve realized recently that the reason I love it is because it tells you a lot about the people, the humans involved. I have lots of extracurricular activities in that field, and I think with a better test score I can be really competitive for an Ivy League school. I have a 1430 SAT today, and I’m taking it one more time in October. My main fear is that if I don’t get into a good school I won’t be able to get a successful job that I want because it’s so niche.
Thank you so much for making this video! I recognized some of my questions here, and your answers were really helpful. I would definitely watch a college essay video in the future. I'm normally okay with essays, but I'm struggling to start this one, so any tips on that would be great. Another thing, I think I'm teetering on the edge of getting rejected from all of my reach schools, or getting in as the last choice (actually my goal at this point, not me being insecure just honest about my stats). Outside of taking the SAT and ACT one more time to try and boost my test scores, securing good letters of rec, and locking in on my essays, is there anything else you think I should do before early apps are due? Thanks again! :)
One extracurricular that I’ve been doing for a long time is actually my own RUclips channel. I have a ton of content on there and it’s all about the sort of stuff I want to study- history, numismatics. Should I add up the amount of hours of content I’ve made and talk about that on my applications?
I appreciate these videos sm!!Should I apply RD if I believe it will show an upward trend in GPA and my GPA for early decisions would be low in their standards? I have a 3.68 uw but can get it up to 3.8 uw by a semester of senior year.
Hihi i commented on your video last time and thank you so much for responding! i was wondering if you only need 2 rec letters to submit for ur college apps (1 stem, 1 humanities) or if you also need recs outside of school, such as a rec letter from, let's say, your piano teacher because you were great at piano and you competed in international competitions.
I'm considering applying to an ivy (Harvard, Princeton, or yale) early action but I've seen so many people saying it's a stupid thing to do if you aren't a genius. I have no clue now if I should or not.
Separate question about REA: is the myth spread by a lot of “advisors” to deter applicants with below 25% stats from believing the demonstrated interest overcomes the deficit in stats, when the same people that get in early are also getting in regular (barring athletes and legacy)? Is it worth doing REA, when none of the other schools I’m interested in have EA programs (just ED) to remove any regret that I didn’t at least try my hand at that school? Or, is it worth doing ED to another reach that has a >2x multiplier for acceptance rate and takes half their class ED? Though the REA schools are definitely harder to get in, they give you the option to compare all options including RD instead of locking you in without extenuating circumstances like ED would do.
For essays is it a bad idea to talk about something more personal? My current draft is probably like 2/3 reflecting on a past experience and the lessons I learned (metaphors I apply later) and then talking about how I've applied those traits in my extracurriculars.
I've heard you say that colleges compare you to other students at your school. Does that hold for recruited athletes? Some context: I'm at a large average public school and a strong applicant with third gen legacy at Princeton, but there is a recruited athlete who has committed to Princeton. Any info would be great. Love the channel!
I found point 4 somewhat confusing. If you have both STEM and humanities activities and achievements, does it matter at all what you write about because the underlying values are dead on the same? The only difference is you started the STEM and humanities things at different points during high school. Another angle is, you want to major in STEM, have actual STEM activities, but also have good humanities activities that also reflect what you want to do with a STEM degree.
What if i want to submit a couple of recommendation letters, like from a mentor in organization, teacher and counselor. Where can i or writers submit it(like in which section) as i thought i can use additional info for that but i realized i cannot. + I am not sure what my teacher would write in my recommendation (its not going to be bad, but im not sure if my teacher good at this and can portray me in the right way or just a very typical regular recommendation). Additionally, I switched schools and my teachers hs only known me for a year(before i was in regular school, now i do the ib)
How many additional letters of rec do you think is too excessive? Would a letter from a club advisor and a letter from a summer program counselor or internship advisor, in addition to the 2 standard academic letters of rec/4 letters of rec be considered too much?
Hi. I have a 1510 sat and am waiting for my new score but i have really bad grades bc im an asian american(us citizen) that went to a really prestigious high school in korea not knowing korean. we dont have a gpa system and were graded on a scale but when calculated its rly low. i have a huge upwards trend but i still have Cs esp in like korean literature and korean history. i self studied 5 aps last year and got 4s/5s. i have pretty good ecs tho do u think colleges will see my grades and be like nope or will my extenuating circumstances count? thank you
Does med school consider undergrad prestige? I thought MCAT and GPA mattered most, and of course other holistic factors, but I thought the the prestige of undergrad never mattered for med school...
Yeah they care way more about MCAT and GPA that would mostly matter for like very ritzy med school type things like government medical work… more important for law school for sure. Good catch. When i am on a rant sometimes i miss details like that thanks for clarifying :)
I have a 1470 SAT(770 math and 700 English) with a 3.7 gpa. My high school average is somewhere around 1190. Not a lot of extracurriculars or awards. Do you think I can make it to Harvard ?
Hey! I have a quick question. I have a paid job and it is 5 months during the school year and a week in the summer. In the common app for the time you spent on your activities how would I show this since it is not continuous.
Check their typical bracket and if you are in it then yes definitely! And even if you are on the lower end i would still suggest it as probably most people will be submitting scores again……. But if it would put u at like 10% percentile then i wouldnt
Hi, I am planning to apply to a state school (75% acceptance) that doesnt require SAT or ACT until 2027. Since I will apply before that, should I still submit my ACT??
Really great video! Just found your channel and I lovee it already. But I had a small question. My SAT examination is on Nov 2 and there are no test dates available before😭, should I still apply to my dream college like Stanford without my SAT scores for ED or wait and apply for RD??
what differences should there be between common app activities list vs resume for college apps. is it just a beefed up version with every EC if you couldn't include all of them?
Yes but dont make it too long or no one will read it! Make sure to send the resume to your interviewers so they can refer to it when they write the review of their in review with you
i love u more than matcha lattes and i had 6 of them today thank you so so much

I seriously love how laid back and honest the advice on this channel is. It’s not like “get into Harvard or you suck” unlike many other channels

Not only is there always transfer and grad school, you also are plenty competitive
Another gem !! pleasee I need a diversity/contribution essay video. I'm not from a dvierse background and have NO ideas for this one.
lemme ponder....... OK!!! Ill add that to my video topic queue. Thanks !
Hello! Please make a video explaining the general application process, explaining common terms and processes that we have to go through. Thank you 🙏
you mean like the general steps?
@@CollegeChingu yes please, and like the abbreviations you keep using in your videos and stuff like that, ty!

working on one right now actually!!!!

Yes, especially for schools with entrepreneurship traits as a main focus, RUclips shows dedication and creativity!
yes

Same question but I can also improve my ECs and some minor things (like polish essays etc)
Or do you think it is better to still apply to a couple of schools earlier?

Think about tuition paid for and room and board students. Never forget that

Is it better to apply early with less than average academics, or to use the extra semester to boost your academics and apply regular?
I hope this gets answered 💔

For essays is it a bad idea to talk about something more personal? My current draft is probably like 2/3 reflecting on a past experience and the lessons I learned (metaphors I apply later) and then talking about how I've applied those traits in my extracurriculars.
Does applying REA/ED make it more difficult to get financial aid? Also thanks for making such high quality videos!
No!!!! No effect. And thank u sm! :)

There is a spot to upload 2 additional recommendations letters for most universities on the common app!
