how to do pokemon investing in four simple steps:
1. buy sealed product
2. put it in a dark closet away from moisture or direct sunlight
3. wait like 5-10 years
4. profit
it really is just that easy
this is what I always say to newbies as well 👍🏽
Should your girlfriend's husband invest in pokemon cards? Here are the top 10 reasons why, #5 will shock you.
#7 will make you cuck yourself!
I died 💀 good one 😂
Yooo hahahaba
PokeOz is pretty chill guy tbh.
Yall sayin this like I dislike homie is crazy
PokeOz is actually a solid ass dude, I recommend watching him if you actually take pokemon as some kind of "investment" Great video though.
Why yall keep saying yall actually like him like I said he was a bad dude or something? 😂
@@OpossumBud nah man you were fully respectful towards all the people you mentioned. I just wanted to comment this to give appreciation to the guy for anyone who doesn't know him. Or in-case they passed judgement because the whole "pokeinvesting" community is super weird and mostly predatory. He's like a diamond in the rough, so are you! I love your content. Can't speak for everyone else.
The only tip I never liked is when people say buy cases, like bro that’s a lot of money
It is a lot of money you ain’t wrong
I actually really like pokeoz. He's a cool dude. And he's just talking about his own personal pokemon tcg journey.
Cool I don’t dislike him either 🤷🏽♂️
the end of the day i think the best advice is this, collect what you want sealed or unsealed, just don't buy it expecting it to go up in value.
This, the rest doesn't matter. If you are getting what you want out of the hobby who is to say otherwise. If people want to have an opinion on your habits in the hobby maybe they should chip in and financially support your habits LMAO.
Here's the real pro tip. Literally....like literally just buy whatever it is you want to buy. Stop focusing on buying "valued items". You come first, "BUY WHAT YOU THINK IS VALUABLE TO YOU."
Also thank you Opossum Bud for keeping real. Like seriously
Thanks homie 🙏🏽
I don’t get why XY Evolutions sealed products are so expensive when the hits themselves aren’t even that expensive. You can get the two expensive Charizards for less than a 3-pack blister.
Content creators and sealed collectors. That’s it
The obsession with money is slowly destroying the hobby. This stuff is suppose to be fun.
EXACTLY. If things go up great but its fucking fun who cares.
the guys who know nothing will be gone just give it a few years. They'll chase something else given time or go back to their day job. pokenomics I think has been long term and has a legit business in cards, but I don't know, don't watch his stuff. Anyhow, eventually they will all sell their stuff, maybe keep a few cards, and just clear their closets and move on. Or they will move on to things like selling $2.50 booster packs for $10 on whatsnot for a while....
I never understood this. Are you sure your not talking about scalpers? How does someone keeping 3 boxes sealed and opening 1 for fun per set instead of opening all 4 right away ruin the hobby for you?? Why does it matter what other people are doing? It actually helps because the more investors, the more sealed product we will have in the future. Which will make sealed products cheaper for us to open down the road. This whole thing where you can't think of money that you worked so hard for while buying expensive collectible cards is crazy to me. I want everybody to have awesome collections for the least amount of money as possible.
@@PokeBeardTCG not sure your response, the obsession with value is ruining it not if someone holds or opens. I have tons of sealed product that down the road ill either open or trade for things i want.
@jerseyjohn123 I 100% agree money shouldn't be everything, but pokemon is a ridiculously expensive collectible, and a lot of pokemon investors are fans and collectors first. The people looking for this information are new people, or people that dont have alot of money. I just dont get why it ruins the hobby for you if some people care about the value more than you. If you look at the biggest collectors in pokemon I put my life on it says they care about the value a ton and have been investing heavily for years. Especially if you're spending your hard earned money on sealed boxes also. To some people thats bad and you're an investor bro. It don't matter if you plan on trading them or selling them it's the same thing. You probably wouldn't be sitting on a ton of boxes if you knew for a fact they would never go up in value and be worth trading for other things. You would have some of your favorites to open down the road but you wouldn't be dropping a ton of money and having a ton of product like you said you have. I just think it's crazy all these people that hate on pokemon investors while they're also sitting on a ton of sealed products. But again, I totally agree that value shouldn't be first but it should be in the back of your mind if your spending your hard earned money on something. If you wanna have the best collection for the cheapest amount possible than you gotta think about the money and be smart. Ask any big-time collector of anything, and they will talk about the value.
Great Vid s always. My investment advice is 1.) Hold, Hold, Hold. Pokémon is a long term hold. 2.) Sealed is King. Even the most unwanted sets like Evolutions go up. 3.) Invest in sets you believe in, don't spread out just to diversify. I'd rather have grabbed 10 boxes of team up then 2 and a bunch of others, stand on the sets you believe in. I believe in Japanese 151 so I grabbed 9 boxes. I think Chilling Reign is 2nd best S&S set behind evolving I grabbed 4 boxes. I believe in Lost Origin, Brilliant Stars and Fusion Strike long term so I'm currently grabbing them.
Japanese 151 got printed to death 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@GoyBenius_0901 Its Pokémon. They print Billions of cards a year and yet as a set ages, the price goes up, look at XY evolutions.
Great video!
I have just bought what I genuinely wanted to collect and wanted to keep for the long haul.
I love my personal collection of cards, the artwork, the memories and the thrill of the chase means so much more than what they are worth.
Best card investment advice I can give is enjoy what you are collecting/investing in. Proper sealed items collecting like(Booster boxes, ETBs, UPC, etc..)
Seriously though, if you are not enjoying it, the investment is nothing more than a pile of boxes sitting in a storage room somewhere. I love my invested boxes to be displayed because I enjoy looking at them and how they decorate my office/gaming room. In this aspect, its far easier to sit on, but that is just me.
You definitely do gotta have love for this place, otherwise like you said you’re just holding cardboard. I agree 👍🏽
Good vid, Possum. Your knowlege on older sets and how they aged is invaluable. The comedy factor was a nice bonus. Liked and subbed 👍
Truly appreciate that homie 🙏🏽
None of the advice is necessarily bad but I think its bad to rely on these videos and advice as gospel. As you said, if you're active in the hobby and genuinely enjoy Pokemon, you will gain a gradual understanding of how you want to go about things.
Doesn't take that long either in my opinion. A good few years and you generally have a good idea of what you like to buy, how you go about selling, how much money you want to put in, etc. I understand why these videos exist but I don't think it is a good idea to rely on any of them. Both from a collecting and "investing" standpoint
You understand the video 👍🏽 I agree
@@OpossumBudYeah I wasn't disagreeing or anything I just wanted to put my 2 cents in haha
@@dinoboy0703 I know you weren’t I was just acknowledging it. Thanks homie 👍🏽
The rule of thumb I've always used when it came to "investing" in pokemon cards is buy in threes. One to open. One to keep sealed. And one to sell later down the line. You sell the 3rd one when it covers the price of what you spent on all 3
I’ve heard that rule before, makes sense so cover a lot of bases
My only mistake was picking up pokemon in the first place shiit I'm a degenerate ripper and my "investments" end up in my permanent collection 90% of the time
Oh no, I'm absolutely devastated. What am I supposed to do with my inexpensive cardboard? It's not like I can just look at them and enjoy the nostalgia, smh this market is rough. The guys on NotWhat said I was gonna make big boy money, they lied to me 😢
They sure did homie, they sure did 😐
I remember seeing evolutions on clearance at wal mart and not buying it. They couldnt get rid of it at one point.
Yup they were everywhere 👀
Take my investing advice: Don't buy any sealed product and let it go on clearance. And then let me go grab it. Thanks.
Easy money 💰
It's laughable that people think an "investment" is a failure unless it increases by 500 to 1000%... If buying and selling Pokemon (short or long-term holds) brings you a higher profit than conventional investing, it's a win.
Well thats because 90% of the people who "invest" in this game only have the knowledge and market experience of 2021 onward... It's hilarious how many bad takes I've seen from people who pretend to have experience from Covid onward yet don't know that TCG's were never considered an "investment" until then.
🤣🤣🤣 that bit about the ads had me dying lol “why yes I do suck balls at cooking, this is DEFINITELY for me!!!!!”
I’ve seen so many of those ads lol
I remember the days where people called evolutions a gimmick month after release and were just sick of it and waiting for sun and moon to drop lmao
Just enjoy the hobby. If you're in it for the money, you're going to be miserable in the hobby.
Truth 👍🏽
Thank you, my friends think I’m crazy saying that evolutions was a set for for a small period of time was tired of because it was everywhere.
I’m just glad you said it, confirms what I remember. On its release it was hard to find then Pokémon company started dumping tons of evolution product which exhausted the community at the time. This is all from my perspective.
Nah man, everyone was tired of it by 2018 👀 that put those packs in everything
0:45 what? I do that dail- YOU HEARD NOTHING 🤐
Bro you must of really had fun doing this one, had me cracking up. Keep up the good work
I’ve legitimately gotten into arguments with these newer collectors who don’t realize that cards and product used to be stupid cheap. I remember plasma storm etbs just sitting on shelves and people not rushing to buy out the shit.
In 2014 you could buy a raw complete shadowless 1st base set for $1000. And that included zard.
These new people annoy me. None of this “investment” talk was a thing back then.
I've found the speed of appreciation recently a tad alarming. Like Lost Origin was £115 a month ago and now it's £200. Either demand really is that insane or there's a lot of speculators. Could be the start of a longer term bubble. It'll be interesting to see what happens in 10 years when all these hoarders plan to sell.
2:40 you brought it back. OG Opossum bud vibes 😊
It was overdue 🙏🏽

Bruh I am so tired of investors thinking they’re better than scalpers, any time you bring money into a hobby it fucking ruins it for collectors. Unfortunately i dont think we’ll ever go back to those pre covid days as long as shit like the pokeinvesting subreddit and pokeinvesting discord groups are active
I like PokeOz. Been subbed to him for a bit
Cool I don’t dislike homie 🤷🏽♂️
The point PokeOz made bringing up the ETB’s from Sun and Moon and X&Y is that current ones are printed WAAAAY more and will not perform as well because they’re supply us much higher. I don’t think he’s saying they can’t appreciate but that they will be slower than like a booster box for a main set.
And what I WAS SAYING was all 6 of these homies give advice that contradicts the other persons in a lot of cases and it’s confusing as hell for new people. People in my opinion should get their feet wet and build their own experiences as well as listening to their favorite creators.
@@OpossumBud that’s fair. I was just commenting in regards to your comment about XY not being a valid era to mention. I think for the point he was making it was valid to mention XY because a beginner could look at how much those appreciated and think everything will do the same. I think he’s trying help new people understand the pokemon company prints a lot more of those now than they did back then.
@@MrGuitarfreak132 well those did well because no one cared about them and then creators flooded the area all wanting to open it. Sword and shield and Scarlet and Violet will do the same, it just takes time
@@OpossumBud yeah but I think it’s a little more than that. I agree Swsh and S&V will all do well over time but I don’t think we will see as fast of gains in etbs even if you ignore the pandemic. While the pandemic pumped things to outrageous highs and then collapsed everything is higher than prepandemic and to me that says more people are collecting now which is awesome. So if we can keep a flow of collectors coming in slowly things should mostly all do well given enough time.
@@MrGuitarfreak132 the pandemic kickstarted some of this, but content creators are the reason sun and moon and XY went crazy up. Nothing organic happened about them and Pokemon printed more product in SwSh and SV cuz there is more people here now. Zero to do with the product and more to do with external people driven factors.
Evolutions makes no sense to me. The set isnt insanely expensive but for some reason the sealed product is marked up like crazy
Creators
It doesn't matter about what cards are in the set. Is the set old? Yes. Does the set center around fan favorite Pokémon? Yes. Is the amount of the product in low supply? Yes. Boom, expensive product. It makes sense, I just don't like it because I'm financially gated off from opening older sets I grew up with.
@@mr.awesome3309 well when you put it like that lol
Evolutions and generation's was on every end cap and in clearance section it was insane I wish I was collecting then
Just buy what makes you happy.
Pokémon is not a serious investment realistically. If you want to invest in incremental gains then get a Roth IRA and put money into it. That will appreciate just as fast as Pokémon cards lmao. Buy some rising stocks in small bunches.
Sure Pokémon can be an investment but if you’re only in it for the money then you’re kind of an idiot.
Can’t go wrong with what you like!
Just say you're broke. Consistently been outperforming traditional investments even after the boom settling. But hey, you go buy your stocks that can drop in large numbers overnight, and I'll continue to see 10% in a month.
$1800 in AMC calls at the right time translated into $7,000,000 in under a year. Pokemon is basically crypto. There's no fundamentals, just technicals. If everyone is buying to sell, who are they all going to be selling to? @@trey6615

If ever is just buying to sell... Who's everyone going to be selling to? Pokemon has never been as it is today, so going off historical trends is all but useless. "But it always goes up!" .. Cards don't have fundamentals, just technicals. They are just as speculative as crypto, which one could argue has always "just gone up." The only way for values to continue rising is if cash inflows outweigh outflows with the rate Pokemon produces cards.

Crunchy roll and whole "fresh" foods should hire you for commerical ideas 😂👌 everyone should be investing in peace of mind over everything else. 😇
Facts 🙏🏽
I hate the term investing when it comes to cardboard. It's a hobby. You collect, play, or both. Investing in cardboard seems weird and slimy.
No people must make large pools of money or else it’s no fun 😡
Weird and slimy because it's been consistently strong in recent years?
@@trey6615 Weird and slimy because anyone who was interested in actually investing would do some research and find real investments that have performed much better than pokemon. Most Pokemon "investors" are simply flippers looking to cause or take advantage of false shortages. There's a reason most investors have complained about this newest generation of cards, because pokemon is back to printing billions of cards and these flippers can't profit off false shortages.
Also weird and slimy because there's people like you. Those that see a video and get so triggered by it, feeling that they are under attack, that their only option left is to lash out several times in that comment section, casting juvenile insults at randoms to feel better about their weird and slimy nature.
Your videos are great...love the sarcasm..keep them coming

Danny Phantump posted a vid that had a website from just 4-5 years ago before the boom that had Fossil or Jungle (some vintage packs I don’t remember exactly) for some crazy low price like $25 or something. Pokémon was really cheap not that long ago.

The point is none of them are that bad by themselves but the pool of money homies all blend together and give contradictory advice.
I really enjoyed the video, nice wholesome way to get that point across. Pokeinvesting is here to stay, it's not really my thing but I dabble a bit here and there.
tbh nostalgia nomics is always on point....i think sealed booster boxes is the best like he says because it displays well and after time always goes up wether its a little or alot
To be honest, the main take here is to follow on what does your intuition and stimulus kicks in. Whether to follow their tip or not, its up yours to take. These legal advices can vary from time to time but we cant guarantee for it. I enjoy collecting tcgs because they are pretty fascinating as well as a part time hobby.
The main take away here is everyone’s advice contradicts each others and you should make your own minds up 👍🏽

Pokemon printing cards so fast. Let alone buying older set, even completing modern sets as a hobby is not financially advisable. New sets come and go like consumables. Print, distribute, buy, next! But wai.... Don't care, here's new product. My paldean fates haven't even come yet! Don't care, here's temporal force, cyber judge preorder!.
For graded cards, it's not only depends on whether people interested in graded cards. But also whether the company you grade your card with destroyed their own reputation while you are sitting on it.
Sets are bigger than they used to be too 😐
They sell evolutions booster box for 1000$ , here in The Netherlands .. absolutely crazy!
Great video, some 'investing' videos don't age well, some state the 'bleeding obvious'. Best investment I can recommend is buy high and sell low 😂
It’s a weird slope that has so many different takes it’s just contradictory to a point.
I really hope that all the people “investing” in “valuable” cards, sell them off when they dip down for a few years and then leave the hobby permanently.
People forget we have proof of concept; ie sports cards. Good news is Charizard is never going to have to do some PR clean up. If good sports cards didn’t keep rising I would think differently. If all the people with actual money weren’t buying stocks, the could be throwing their money at Pokémon cards. 🧐 times will change. Maybe I need to make a video on this too, but with actual logic. Good job as always OB
Couldn’t hurt to make one 👍🏽
Evolutions, objectively, will be a tough sell with 151 on the market. Evolutions looks like ASS, I laugh everytime I see the prices on it. It DOES NOT fill the nostalgic gap for base set. There are better sets with more impressive art in xy expansion. Most base cards set aside minty holos and grade 10s are affordable. It looks like base set took acid and ran backwards through a corn field lmao. Same with S&M, outside of the top cards and hidden fates, it has little to offer except rainbows and gold cards. Some full arts. Objectively though the cards aren't as appealing as swsh. Only time will tell, but I'll put my money in good condition wotc vintage and the masterpiece that is swsh.
Brother I agree, the full art mega ex cards are pretty cool but other than that evolutions is boring as hell. IMO the secret rares in XY sets are slept on but as a person who has been into pokemon since the base set nothing comes close to the alt arts in swsh, the beautiful silver borders and crisp art. I don't know what's guna hold value I just collect what I like and I've been slowly snatching all the alt arts I can when prices drop. I didn't think the tag team cards would explode in price but I loved those and snatched them up for relatively cheap now I wouldn't buy those for the prices they are now so the ones I'm missing will stay out my collection for now lol.
Can't go wrong collecting what you like. Missing out is not always a bad thing in regards to S&M. Sealed product will stay high, but singles will eventually be affordable again. I saw my raichu&Alolan Raichu alt go from 30 to 170ish on the high, and back down to 118 currently. That hype only happened due to swsh alts. Granted S&M has less print runs overall and the card quality definitely wasn't always there for English. I opened more hidden fates than anything I'm sure, Including the rayquaza premium figure collection. Probably my biggest mistake other than selling a complete base set for cheap on ebay.
@@eeveevault aw man that raichu is my #1 regret from tag team, I had someone send an offer to me for 25$ on ebay but me and the lady were saving up for a house so I'd feel guilty buying more but now that I think about how much it is now I should have accepted it. Blastoise is my #1 though and I'm thankful I grabbed the blastoise x piplup before it went to high. Feels good to have what I have though need to be more thankful. Love this hobby.
Prices will never be the same they were a few years ago. Everyone is dumping.
I only invest in the oversized promo cards because as we get older our eyesight will get worse and only be able to look at those cards. Big 🧠 Timmy over here
