As someone who previously attended a Korean international school, I thought it'd be interesting if I reacted to/reviewed "XO, Kitty," which takes place in that setting. I thought it would be cool if I shared my thoughts or experiences from attending an international school and compare it with the depictions in the show.
Note: What I say isn't representative of all international schools; what I say is based on my personal experiences.

XO Kitty is more for the American audience than Korean.
Yea in my personal opinion i feel like since it was set in korea it should have been shown a bit more of korean culture but it didnt
this show is terrible
True but it's also not for kdrama lovers at all. The show is like a romanticized view of Americans about korean international school/highschool. Also, I have nothing against 🏳️🌈 themed stories/couples but when they insert that it's so random. At least give me a reason why she suddenly likes the mean girl🤦♀️
it's all supposed to be based on the premise that Kitty went to KISS to learn more about her mom, to be closer to Dae, and also just to learn more about her Korean culture as well. and i feel like the show just forgot about that and threw in the whole Yuri romance as well as Minho. speaking of, Minho was the only reason I got through the whole thing lol
yeah there was no korean culture or anything at all. i thought it was gonna be like us seeing the streets and historical places etc. but she had been to korea once before so makes sense why she didnt do that again
Fr Minho and his mom plus the random K-pop songs was the only thing I was there for😭😭
hi~ half korean who went to ics pyeongtaek from grade 7-12 in the mid 2000s. maybe it's just the difference between seoul schools, but since we were near a military base (osan and camp humphrey's) the majority of us were half koreans who had to go there because our american parent's contract with the military didn't allow us to attend the dod school (american school on base). so majority half koreans and lots of full americans whose parent's were usually like missionaries (ics is a christian school) or something.
we wore uniforms! it's actually really nice looking back because i felt like it is really apparent i went to school in korea by my uniform even though i didn't go to korean public school.
we also had 90% foreign teachers who were basically just missionaries lol. but our receptionist and most office/cafeteria staff was korean. and same with our music and math teachers being korean lol. plus our korean language teacher.
we had a really small campus and our k4-12th grade was all in one building. we didn't even have a gym at the time.
we had all major korean and american holidays off. i guess cause being mostly military kids??
tcis (taejeon christian international school) has boarding! i remember going there to play soccer and thinking it was so school to live on campus lol.
but apparently a lot has changed tho. i heard they changed the application requirements. so now it's like majority korean kids.
And there are a lot of tcis kids who transfer to yiss I heard. Many of the new students in each grade come from tcis, and almost all are Koreans born in America
I need more of this😂 It's great to see new content here!!! Uni stuff is great but reviewing movie stuff is great too.
Ahh yes pls review all the episodes! Personally I loved XO Kitty like yeah it’s unrealistic and cheesy but weren’t the movies also like that😭

And as the other person said i was referring to the “To All The Boy’s I’ve Loved Before” movies which are basically a prequel to XO Kitty but they were focused on her sister instead. And lastly what exactly did you find sad abt my comment just stating that I liked the show💀
@@radiosilnce those movies were American movies about about American life and had nothing to do with intermingling Korea and brutally fking it up. They have completely different vibe than this cringe fest

Im a SEA person, n i only know of SK's school experiences from Kdramas (same as American High Schools too, from TV shows), but this show legit feels like a low quality self insert wattpad 😂
The random "wet dream" scene are weird n gross (to me anyway, cuz these are minors😑)
It feels like a Koreaboo wrote it n thats is just...icky😅
the reason i can't watch it despite the hype i was seeing. the premise just feels like it has koreaboo flag on it.
So I went to KIS in Hong Kong, this is really interesting to compare- we absolutely had uniforms, but had some freedom in wearing our gym uniforms when we wanted. I also transferred to Australian International School which had uniforms. KIS also had two sections- an English section where the students were very diverse (still lots of Korean students) and most of the teachers were Canadian, but there was also a Korean section where the faculty and students were ethnic Korean and spoke almost exclusively Korean. Neither school had dorms, we had a bunch of facilities but dorms was just not a thing! Welcome parties also not a thing- at KIS we had school dances in the gym but at AISHK they hired ballrooms in hotels.

The whole show is just a big cringe full of cliche. I guess if it was korean production the story would turn out much better.

The first 10 mins of Xo kitty was so unrealistic for me but i still like the show
international schools here have uniforms :( i wish they had atleast like casual clothing days atleast for atleast once a week... ive heard some schools do that 2:33 woah that is exactly how i felt XD
I enjoyed your commentary but i still liked the show too. i mean all the previus cast just easily got into stanford and nyu and etc so this is going based off of american standards of movie where its supposed to be cheesy and easy.
How is it an “international school”, if there was barley any foreigners!?? That confusing lol
I currently go to a Korean international school, and no, the faculty for most international schools are foreign.
Finally someone said it about the fact that XO Kitty was meant to represent an international school. No offense other reviews were disappointments of XO Kitty not being set in a Korean school. As someone who went to an international school, I would say XO Kitty is accurate in terms of international school culture. The teaching staff at the school I went to were mostly British. My school was British. Also we did have uniforms.
Exactly I'm really sad about how ppl are saying it's unrealistic when it isnt meant to depict real life normal average Korean highschool life, heck even kdramas are usually unrealistic like wth the hate is undeserved. It's far from a perfect show but come on...
I will say I’ve seen so much criticism about how Korean Culture is represented in this show. I know that this was an opportunity for Netflix to introduce true Korean culture to many Americans outside of what kpop and koreaboo’s may seem like, which is true. However I also know that this is the “To All the Boys” series. I think some people need to recall that this series hardly had accurate representation of what American high school or America in general is like either. It’s meant to be entertaining not so much accurate.
i feel like people are hating on this show too much 😭 its supposed to be cheesy just like the To All The Boys Ive Loved Before movies with a simple to follow storyline and imo it was cute and fun to watch
Ikr !! people sometimes need to open their mind and relax and stop using their brain too much in romcom type shows like this ❤ afterall it's all about having a good time while watching yk :)
I love TATBILB so I had my expectations but I was let down. Lara Jean is iconic, but here, I'm not sure if I even liked Kitty. I like her character more in TATBILB
It’s okay if they wanted to do a cheesy story without showing other culture and failing, but this show portraits Korean culture unrealistically, of course people won’t like it, seems like they didn’t even try
I can get if the Koreans don't like it because it's unrealistically portraying how Korea is. I personally was entertained by the visuals of Minho, Ocean Park and Minho's Mom also the random K-pop songs

Minho was the only reason I watched this show. Best character ❤
Well, she said she got a scholarship. Plus, her dad is an OBGYN so do not anticipate money would have been a problem. And yes, based on the previous movies, it was a public school her and her sisters attended in the US. I just do not get why her dad did not travel with her to make sure she gets settled-after all, she is a minor.

Also, the other schools maybe have somewhat more international students because kis is a subset of ybm.. also, chadwick and dulwich probably the prettiest… and the jeju international schools some gave dorms, but seoul ones generally do not, but their buses go hella far.. i knew kids that had to bus for an hr or more to get to chadwick… idk about the dorms in international schools, but I have seen the dorms at yonsei, though I didn’t live there, and they were tiny tiny
I stopped paying attention to the story after episode 4 or 6 and then just skip to the last episode
The last episode threw me off😭
