I’m hyped for this as it’s a call back to the older fans. But I do hope we get a new 3D NG soon. I mean it’s been 20 years since the first 3D and Yaiba being the last one wasn’t exactly ground breaking and it wasn’t the best follow up given how bad the reception of NG3 was before the razor’s edge update
Yes!! This is exactly what I too have been theorizing for a while now. That a new Ninja Gaiden game has likely been in development for a while now and that it will be a remake/new modern version of the original NES game story. This just makes so much sense and would beautifully enable the new game to be both a sequel and a soft reboot simultaneously. There truly is no other idea that makes sense and that is because there is a huge plot point to the series that must be addressed-namely the death of Jo Hayabusa. I don’t see how there is any way a new game happens without this being focused on and Ragebound story set up seems to point to exactly this. So glad you made this video and someone is talking about this theory more!!!
Hello! Part of my wishes you’re wrong, but it’s a very well fundamented theory, and it was a great video to watch :). I’m glad a friend shared it with me.
It's like a running gag throughout nearly the entire Ninja Gaiden series that the Hayabusa Village is attacked or even destroyed in some fashion lol. And yeah, I too quickly noticed that this new Kenji characters looks almost exactly how Ryu looked back in the older games, from the of course the costume but even unmasked. Maybe it's him we played as in the 1988 arcade game, as the character was actually unnamed and just assumed to be Hayabusa. Though I think the spinoff "Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z" confirmed that it was him. 🥴
@gjtrue Oh in pretty much every game it's attacked haha. Even in the DS game Dragon Sword. And I didn't think about that.. I do know that the arcade game and the NES games were pretty different, with the arcade being more of a beat-em-up as opposed to an action platformer. Though we play as Ryu in both in those games. As far as canon sake, I don't know if the arcade version holds much weight unfortunately.
A Ninja Gaiden remake makes sense since Koei Tecmo wanted to remake the first game but instead, remastered the 3D trilogy. I was hoping for Ninja Gaiden 4 but a remake with a little bit of retcons here and there is something I wouldn't mind.
I'd take either honestly. But, technically if we're speaking lore for a second, it WOULD be Ninja Gaiden 4 in a way as it would be both a continuation from 3 but also a remake of the first ever game. In the canon, the NES games take place after the 3D era games.
I really hope a remake takes the lessons from NGB and not Sigma and keep it as one character. I also hope they keep the old item use rather than change it similar to Nioh. The save pillars were ahead of their time in the older games.
@@ed61730 I don't think they'll repeat the same mistakes they made with Sigma. It looks like Team Ninja had learned their lessons during their development time with Nioh 1 & 2. And I'm sure Ragebound won't be an easy game but we'll have to wait and see in the summer.
This is a theory I had since the trailer dropped as well. It seems to at least confirm the most likely timeline of events across the NES series, modern series and dead or alive as well.
@secondlifestuffs I like NG Black for the difficulty, NG 2 for the XBOX360 is my 2nd go to cuz it kept all the blood & gore. I don't like how it was removed for Sigma 2. Razors edge 3 can get very hard since there's no health items in the game it's still my very least favorite
@isaacvampful I don't mind Razor's Edge all that much, which surprises most people. While I definitely liked the healing items from Black/2/SIGMA/SIGMA 2, but the ferocity of the gameplay made up for in some aspects. The Steel on Bone mechanic, for instance. If I'm not mistaken if healed you a bit if successful. Still, not anything compared the ones before it, though. But SIGMA 2, that was censorship for Japan, I think. That was Team Ninja's way to get NINJA GAIDEN to PlayStation.
@@secondlifestuffs Original NG2 my favorite too. But honestly NG3RE is the one I replay the most as it has my favorite combat gameplay of the whole series. For all its flaws, the combat in RE is incredible and hugely under appreciated imho.
Theyre gonna remake it imo. Doing a new game is risky...But if they remake its already a set foundation. So they can build something new in other ways without having to Worry about the usual things. Depending on how it goes...like well* then we'll see a new game.
Btw ** I said Ninja gaiden would return long before the remasters. The remasters confirmed that prediction &...it's essentially back with Ragebound. Before the remasters I had the remake Take I just said to you. If Team Ninja can remake & make it good for modern times it should be a success. - Rise of the Ronin also in the digital pre order edition basically has RYU outfits to. I think they also confirmed that ronin universe is tied with Ninja gaiden on top of that...they said it.
I honestly just think a remake would be the next logic step right now. You're right, it's too risky to do a new game considering both recent games (3 and Yaiba) weren't received well. I do feel that if Team Ninja themselves were to make a new NG game, it'd be a remake as it's the safest option they could work with in the current world of gaming.
I feel a bit conflicted with the 80s ninja Gaiden being soo directly tied with the reboot games because they both seem to have completely different tones and storytelling so things could turn out messy. As much as I love the modern ninja Gaiden games, i don’t like the story at all, it’s an absolute mess compared to the original 80s NES games. I think establishing ninja Gaiden 1-3 as prequels to the NES ninja Gaiden 1 might not work because the previous games were never designed with the intention with being a prequel so a lot of retconning will be needed to make it work. It’s like sticky taping two separate art pieces together to turn in into just one art piece, it might look kinda tacky.
@oreopug7986 I pretty much think that they want to make them both in one canon, so the solution is to remake the first NES game within the 3D timeline. Essentially, creating a new timeline, like the FF7 Remake/Rebirth did and establishing a semi-new canon.
Eh, i don't think Ninja Gaiden has the demographic to warrant a AAA development cycle anymore ever since TN focused on ARPGs on top of the hack-and-slash genre losing it's popularity. There's some demand for it sure, but I think that's why they made Ragebound. Outsourcing the work to a smaller devteam is the most cost-effective and efficient way of satisfying that demand. I'd love to be proven wrong, but unless they turn Ninja Gaiden into a soulslike then I don't really see a big budget NG title releasing in 2025, as the Wo Long director at TN has confirmed they have no plans for NG in an interview a year ago. Hell, TN didn't even start off with NG, it's more likely this 30th anniversary is going to double down on DOA and it's spin offs, which still has a strong niche in the fighting game community
@@secondlifestuffs I commented before watching the whole video, I see what you mean, remaking the old NES games into the 3D NG like FF7 remake. I hope that's what will happen. Imagine the enemies and bosses like Jaquio in full 3D game detail. And remaking the music, NES games had some of the best tracks, update them to something more akin to Minibosses' NG Medley, Ashane's Ninjascape, and BrainCells remake of the Wind Level theme.
I've definitely heard conflicting opinions. My friend who grew up with the game was a huge fan of Remake and when Rebirth came out he loved it, but after it had some time to settle with him, he said he's not too keen on the changes and everything, specifically with the way the story is played out. He is both eager and worried about part 3.
This is an unpopular opinion but I agree lol, NG3 tried so hard to be this serious, grounded story and the tacticool suit design reflects that. I much prefer the classic retro leather-like material of the first two entries
@@byeetchI actually agree, I really hate the sculpted abs and box-iness of the ng3 design. His old helmet design was soo much more unique and memorable in the way that it resembles a falcons beak a lot more than those mess of squares

Another plot hole is the name of Ryu's dad in the original games, which was named Ken if I'm not mistaken. So they'll probably fix that as well.
And thank youuu! I appreciate it! More Ninja Gaiden content will come soon too!!
I'm so happy the game is being developed by a Spanish studio. I bet my life that this game will be respectful of the source material.
