Garden city is in Central Nassau home of the largest mall in the county however very expensive place to buy a home Talkin millions and Nassau County has one of the highest property taxes in the country!
The Only semi affordable you mention is valley stream, remember North Merrick semi affordable and South Merrick which is expensive, Bellmore is also North and South same there!

There are plenty of beaches in the city, most famous is Coney Island.
