      Thank you, Kay! I like going the extra mile with my research.
      It’s better to fully understand a killer when you know where they have come from and the events that led up to that point.
      I used to work the probation service and I dealt specifically with personality disorders which is fascinating topic of study. Really helps you get inside the mind of a killer/criminal. The extra level of psych analysis is a nice sweetener to add to the pot. 👍🏻😁

    When I was a teenager my mother told me of a woman she met at a needlework class in London who had bought the former house of Dennis Nielson, 23 Cranley Gardens, London. The woman was very distraught as she learned of the atrocities that had taken place there only after the purchase of the property. I remember feeling very sorry for her, this all I know.

    You did a great job telling this story! I love how matter of fact you were! A refreshing change from the “makeup and true crime” gossip style videos that are so popular now.

    • @DiD86
      @DiD86  2 года назад +8

      Yeah, I don’t mind “hamming it up” when I do different voices/accents but the more matter of fact one is about these cases, the more detail you can fit in by keep to the point. Plus, it really adds to sicker parts, such when Nilsen masturbated himself between the thighs of one of his victims, there’s just no other way you can present that and still be taken seriously.
      My friend Rob who has been major encouragement in me starting this channel said to me he thought that was definitely the sickest moment and kind of made him gag a bit! And he’s no stranger to dark topics, like myself.

    I have been studying serial killers since adolesense. I was fascinated by them at a young age. I was never particularly interested in the macabre, or in their particular individual crimes. I found the psychological aspect of it to be particularly fascinating. As I studied more and more of them, I noticed that nearly all of them shared a certain commonality. They all had some type of childhood trauma, or a traumatic upbringing in general. Their crimes often tend to reflect their own individual trauma in some way. I think that the key to prevention is for every person to pay attention to what is going on around them. If it is apparent that a child is growing up in an abusive or extremely abnormal environment, then early intervention is key. Nearly all of the killers I have studied showed clear signs of disturbance long before they began killing. The mind is truly a powerful thing.

      According to other sources, it is not proved that his grandpa did abuse him. Military service, which Nilsen also took on, also distorts personalities, and a perfect place for abuse. Sadly, I know sexually abused people, but thanks God, they have not become serial killers, (though one of them started abusing children too). It seems to me that this guy was mentally instable anyhow, had a weird personality, a bit autistic, cannot connect to even men, and is only interested in himself, everything needs to be in the way how he imagines it (it's in the film starts from about 11:04)

    Dennis Nielsen was arrested on my 19th birthday. Later that same year (1983), I found myself unexpectedly hitchhiking through Belgium to Germany. I was provided accommodation overnight by a mature Belgian man, when I was reminded of the homosexual serial killer earlier in the year, which then led to me 'barricading myself in' for the night! Fortunately the night passed without incident, and I carried on my journey the next morning. I have never forgotten this somewhat worrying night, which is now 39 years ago. It would seem my Belgian host was quite genuine and kind, thank goodness! Thank you for this excellent download, you narrate brilliantly by the way.

Of course both monsters only came clean after they were discovered, but I’m not sure I believe everything Nilsen said regarding his personal experiences in childhood. And any statement he made that couldn’t be verified by independent sources I would seriously question. Just my gut feeling. I have zero doubt about Dahmer’s “come to Jesus,” or in his authentic willingness to reveal past details in order to shed light on this deviancy. I’m not so sure about Nilsen in that regard. As always, thanks for educating me with a great presentation.

    Victims who were molested when they were children turn on mental health issues and are destroyed for ever because their memories . They made mistakes that send them to jail but the nasty child molesters are free . Child molesters deserve electric chair or torture . I have seen the anxiety on children who were molested and the child molester hiding from justice because the child molester was a woman and nobody believed a woman was capable of being molesting her own children.

    His purported abduction in Aden was almost certainly made up, as he also asserted that the taxi driver molested him thinking Nilsen was dead or knocked out, it was very obviously one of his fantasies - and indeed I believe much of the material that he wrote or the material by other authors based on his self-report is just as unreliable, he tended to insert his fantasies into his life events when recounting his life. For this reason I would not reccommend that anyone read History of a Drowning Boy, his autobiography - apart from the fact that it is quite disturbing and lurid in places much of it is in my opinion fantasy and there is literally nothing to be learned from it: as his biographer Brian Masters stated, Nilsen's writings shouldn't be sought after "because it's *him*, he can't step outside of himself and see himself as a killer". Masters' book is amazing on the other hand. I don't agree with his conclusions about the origins of Nilsen's pathology but it's a seriously amazing book.

    Intriguingly, early on in Freud’s career--when he was still working with the fascinating and quite therapeutically useful and descriptively accurate “hydraulic model of psychic functioning,” he points out that *if the ego-which constantly tries to emulate an internalised image of what a socially valorised version of the self called the “ego-ideal” would be--if the ego, that is, ever forms an alliance with the archaic, pre-moral, repressed desires for *any* type of erotogenic satisfaction or pleasure--the unconscious--rather than with the ego-ideal or “conscience,” THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS, OFTEN PATHOLOGICAL, PARANOID, and VIOLENT SPLIT IN THE MIND.* In other words, it makes a person such as Nilsen a paranoid schizophrenic. At this point, nearly *all* the subject’s libidinal energy or “connective life-force” is twisted and contorted away from having the socially valorised ego-ideal as its object, and is “inverted”: it begins to be directed (impossibly) toward the pre-social, pre-natal primordial past, toward the largely imaginary “utopia” of the amniotic state, wherein the SOLE concern the (pre)subject has to consider is **his OWN pleasure, his OWN gratification, and there are no pesky “Others” to get in the way. Freud calls this pathological, imaginary, pre-social and prenatal phantasy state on which the ego and temporally inverted libido of the psychically disturbed subject have become fixated the “ideal-ego.”
    Because the split psyche of the paranoid schizophrenic has pathologically contorted and inverted most of the subject’s libido (which *should* be a force of CONNECTION and LIFE) such that it is now oriented toward a psychic “blind spot” (the prenatal period inside the amniotic sac) to which return is in fact impossible and during and in such a time-place when and where the “subject” such as we know it DID NOT EVEN EXIST, any subject whose ego aligns itself with the unconscious rather than the socially valorised ego-ideal and strives to turn back the clock and restore the amniotic, prenatal state of the ideal-ego instead IS ACTUALLY STRIVING TO REACH A TIME-PLACE WHERE/WHEN IT DID NOT EXIST: it is striving for DEATH, striving to either be dead itself or to be in love with a Dead Other with whom it identifies….
    We cannot say, thus, that paranoid schizophrenics such as Nilsen have a “libido” or “life-force;” they have only Death drive, pure Thanatos.
