- Evolution of Reggae in the VI is a video documentary that depicts reggae beginnings from a Ras Iyame perspective. This volume focuses on how the influence of Ras Tafari and reggae culture transcended and developed roots in a US Territory 800 miles from Jamaica. It features a handful of reggae bands and artistes who contributed to the development of the VI the reggae music industry that exists today with interviews and music performances from 1970s - 1990s.
Thank you for your comments and musical contributions with the legendary Midnite Band as their early bass play❤
finding the audio recordings alone is incredible journalism
So proud to say that my father, Josephat John has done some incredible work in the Virgin Islands and the world. Big up to my favorites Man T and the Midnite Band.
Midnite a light ina de dark
Nuff Love
Thanks to share this early recording so mighty
This is a BEAUTIFULLY made documentary. Extremely important work Ras Iyame! Thank you for putting this together.
Give thanks Arthur, glad you like it. Check out volume II, to see how the artists evolved by the year 2000. Special thanks to Soundstage stage for their edits and drone footage of our beautiful islands.
Thanks for this ✊🏾documentary 🇻🇮🇻🇮🇻🇮🇻🇮
Give thanks ras bredjin for taking your time to do this documentary film...Midnite band, inner vision and bamboo station are some of my greatest inspiration specially inna USVI. Am glad you put in work in this documentary so people like myself can appreciate and overstand the evolution n journey of reggae music in this great Caribbean Islan. 🙏🏿Blessed love Iyah.❤
Blessings,Give thanks for the info, ST. Thomas was only represented by Ras Abijah but there we're many other Reggae Bands and artists on ST. Thomas and ST.John. For instance Prophecy now going by the name Inner Visions , Ras Nisha, Rebel Action Sound System,Ras Nature And the DubWise Brethren, Calabash, Young blood, Bashan, Selah, Abiah, Tanasha and Jomo Pemberton. The Evolution Of USVI Reggae should encompass all. Heart of love
Noted David, couldn’t agree more. This encompasses years of compiling, cleaning corroded vhs tapes, and seeking video footage, music or pictures of some of the above mentioned artists. No disrespect intended towards St. Thomian and St. Johnian artists, but a decision was made to segment the documentaries into volumes, and get it started. Star Lion Family and Inna vision performed in volume Il. Your mentioning of others, some of whom I am familiar with, will definitely help me to do specific research. I believe DJ Calabash is a good place to start. Funding is crucial to do a thorough job, so I am hoping constructive comments like yours will help with some grant funding. Blessed Love!
Beautiful islands. Thank you for sharing some history and culture 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Give Thanks for sharing !! Blessings

Amazing!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
LOVE THIS‼️‼️‼️💜💜💜
Finally! A well researched recognition of VI Reggae roots history. Give thanks for all the interviews and live show footage. I’ve often wondered how Rastafari conscious Talent bubbles so prodigiously outta the VI
Give thanks for the positive feedback Culture yard, be sure you to view volume 2.
Brilliant 💥💥💥💥💥 Thank you
Blackmon know yourself up good tune
AbsOlutely enlightening to learn about many greats I never knew about. Great context and videos. Give thanks for your documentary Ras Iyame!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
So refreshing to see how the reggae music has evolved in the VI, Overall my favorite from that time was Zeus & the Kasha Heads. Remember them practicing in their yard in Grove place and making me extremely proud of self when they played live in Arthur A Richards school court yard. Midnite of course is history. That was a vibe....
Give thanks, I-Zuse was a heartical Idren, Glad to help refresh your memories, and that I was able to memorialize his band, may he R.I.P.
I watched the documentaries and was disappointed that indivduals like myself and Drew Stoch were not credited for being a part of the emergence of USVI being noticed and recognised on the world stage of Reggae . I do not blame you but Tippy for making sure those contributions are noted .
Sorry Junior Richards that you were disappointed after all the work to recover old footage. Note that it was stressed throughout that it’s from the producer’s perspective and all artists were not included. However you are encouraged to send any music or video for future volumes. Raising funds to feature the women in the Evolution …. Give thanks for the feedback
@@rasiyameculturalcollection2063 I overstand the Producers were the focus, but the musicians create the bedrock for the artistes on stage but mainly the studio. This is something that cannot be understated ,especially since the music there started getting serious notice from the world the last 5 years. The producers were doing the same thing the previous years but nothing changed until recently, why do you think that is?. I'm not upset at your work It is said producers, most notably Tippy that should have made that known.
Give thanks for the link, loved seeing and learning meh people and home. Great works Ras Iyame💯❤🔥❣
Thanks for your contribution and comment

Tony Richard's graduated with our class of 1973 Central High & Tru Dat ! Soul Busters was the Band also Governor Mapp was Salutarian of class of 1973

Bass - Joe Straws [Midnite]
Coming very soon Volume II: “The 2000s local to international artistes “
Blessings Idren , I apprecilove the works but St Thomas was only represented by Ras Abijah. There were other bands or artist from both ST.Thomas and ST.John for instance Prophecy now going by the name Inner visions, Ras Nisha, Calabash, Rebel Action Sound System, Ras Nature and the DubWise Brethren, Young blood, Bashan, Selah, and Jomo Pemberton..
im surprised to not here about Willow
then there's history within each island
These documentaries are the very definition of the half that's not being told. The emergence of Reggae on the world stage cannot be credited to VI musicians only. What about the contributions of those in the Zion High Kings Camp who are not from the VI who have worked with Danny I, Akae Beka ,Batch, Pressure ?
Tippy did mention them in his volume Il interview. I am hoping this is just the beginning, Bredren.
@@rasiyameculturalcollection2063 I watched the 2nd episode. He did not mention Me ,Drew, Balboa,Tuff Lion or Style Scott . I played on 100 strong and Virgin Islands nice and the majority of the Akae Beka Albums Tippy and Jah D produced plus Beauty for Ashes and Ride Tru,the last 2 official Midnite Albums that had no one from Midnite's band on either one . Our contributions cannot be overlooked or excluded. We are the ones who did the work to continue Vaughn's legacy right up until he left us.
Tony Richard I an I ( mystory ) History teacher 🇻🇮🇻🇮🇻🇮
22:14 woah lmaooo thats a good way to see the po lease

Did any of these bands record? Is there a way to hear some of these groups?
Greetings Azimuth, Devon “Man T” Peters and Midnite have footage uploaded on RUclips. Most artists in volume Il have recordings some of which are uploaded. Give thanks
