  • Women have historically been underrepresented in almost all fields: science, school curricula, business, politics-and, sadly, doodles. In addition to our continued effort for doodle diversity and inclusion (see progress on google.com/dood..., today's truly International Women's Day doodle features a host of inspiring women from around the world, including the President of Lithuania, a brave Pakistani education activist, an ever-curious explorer, and dozens more. I've never seen so many cynical people in one comment section.
    This isn't about feminist extortion... this is about giving women the chance to prove themselves. The whole point of this day is to promote a woman's right to try, and be judged with an even hand. This isn't about women forcing men to give them a get-out-of-constructive-criticism-free card. This is about the world teaching everyone that women deserve the right to prove that they have what it takes.
    To those getting mad because corporations are being "forced" to hire minorities, I only have this to say: if you would simply cut the stupid double-standards and judge all candidates fairly in the first place, you won't have to deal with "equality extremists" trying to force random unqualifieds down your throat.

    What I don't understand is why we aren't all just considered equals. Women can do pretty much anything a man can do, and vice versa. All you guys complaining about men's day not being recognized? It was. All you males saying this is sexist really need to open your eyes a bit. We're all human, we all deserve equality.
    If you disagree, that's fine. Just remember it's people like you who hold back progress. Thanks.

    • @jq747
      @jq747 10 лет назад +6

      Ah, no. International Men's Day receives virtually no recognition at all. It certainly does not get its own Google logo and video. I think it might get a mention in Wikipedia's "on this day" and that's about it. IIRC the only mainstream media stories last IMD involved feminists complaining about it. You want to talk equality, I expect to see you leaving a "I support IMD" comment this year in whatever video someone posts up about it.

      jq747 Apart from this Google doodle, how much recognition did you see for IWD besides people saying 'so yeah, it's international woman's day today'?

    Awesome! There's a Woman's AND a Men's International Day... But if we're supposed to be equal, why are we celebrating gender anyways?

    • @michaelmichaelson2014
      @michaelmichaelson2014 10 лет назад +13

      Exactly. I find celebrating any gender to be encouraging a false dichotomy between men and women. We're all people we should change Men's day and Women's to international human beings day.

  • @jq747
    @jq747 10 лет назад +10

    As a men's right activist, and someone who gets called a misogynist regularly, here is what IWD means to me. I once asked a feminist, "would you care if all men disappeared from the world?" She basically skirted the question saying it was a meaningless hypothetical, and aside from immediate family she wouldn't care less. In turn I told her this: I would not want to live in a world were women did not exist. I think it would be a bleak cold place, and quite insufferable. Not just people close to me, but all women. So for me, IWD is honoring women for the richness and light they bring to my world. In particular, it is being thankful to the two ladies who saved my life... although they don't know it, and would probably downplay it they did. It's about being thankful, unreservedly, that women are around to make this world a brighter and warmer place.

      I'm glad you use the term "Feminist" because not all women are Feminists and I am actually a supporter of MGTOW despite being a woman. You didn't mention which men's rights group you work with but I agree that men have just as much right to campaign for equal rights as women because they are laws and legislation that favours women over men which completely defeats the concept of equality. Stay strong and keep fighting, no-one stay the path to TRUE equality was going to easy for either gender unfortunately.

    • @jq747
      @jq747 10 лет назад +1

      ***** Thanks for the kinds words Blake. I'm not MGTOW myself.. but I understand it, given how the value of men in our society has sunk lower than a dog's. I also support any man's right to choose a bachelor life without being shamed with the "manchild" and "fratboy" label.

It's not about female gender per se... it's about femininity energy... when you educate a man (male energy) "For someone to win someone must lose"; whilst when you educate a women (feminine energy) "You educate a generation" women bring about the HeartSoul back to community, country, and mother earth. You wanna see our future generations a ONE, then start by celebrating peace and not anti war. It amazes me such awesome video get haters... but let's focus on the THOUSANDS of Likes, yeah!

    • @Steppenkater
      @Steppenkater 9 лет назад +2

      shay rips
      This is totally BS.
      For example: Lower class people in the past history had no right to vote (men and women). Then men got voting rights in exchange for their millitary service. Few years later women got voting rights for nothing. They got them just for beeing women without contributing anything to society.
      There are many other examples like female quotes (men took the risk to found a company and put their heart's blood and sweat to grow the company and after they were successful women came and claimed to be leader of the company too although they didn't accomplished anything.
      Nowadays women have more rights than men.
      Some examples:
      Mothers can decide if they want to keep the child. Fathers have no right to do any decision regarding the child although it's his child too.
      If a mother don't want to support the child's life she can get rid of it. But if she want to keep it the father will be forced to pay. Again the father has nothing to say.
      After divorce the mother will keep the children and most of the time also the house, the car and a big chunk of his money. The father will be kicked out of the house and be forced to pay.
      If a woman lie about rape most of the time there will be no need for evidence. She will be believed on her words alone. If you are a men there is no "benefit of the doubt". A man who accuse a woman will not be believed at all, even with evidence although sexual harassment of men happens more times than you think.
      If a wife beats his husband, and if he call the police, the police will arrest him even if he is injured. This happened a lot of times. At least 30% and more of the victims of domestic violence are men but there are no battered shelters for men, only for women.
      Men are forced to do millitary servent, women are not.
      Men are victims of violence 70% of all cases. But there are only campaigns about violence against women. Men are 90% of all homeless and they are 3-4 times more often commiting suicide but this huge imbalance doesn't bother anybody. The opposite is the case: Although men are the big loser of our society there is no help for men but on top of that millions of dollars are spent for the help for women in areas were men are the real vicitms!
      Boys are perfoming bad in school because of biased and feministic school systems but although they are falling behind the state still try to do even _more_ help for girls at school.
      A male teacher having sex with a 16 year old girl will go to jail for many years but if a female teacher get pregnant from a 16 year old boy the boy is forced to pay alimony. What in injustice!
      There are many more examples that shows you:
      Women have all rights men have. But there are many rights that women have but men don't have.
      Show me one case where men in our western culture have more rights than women and I will easily show you the opposite.
      Stop believing in feministic propaganda.

    • @TWPO
      @TWPO 9 лет назад +2

      +shay rips Given to them?? Hell, in the US men are *forced* to sign up for the Selective Service. Meaning they have an obligation in exchange for their rights. If they do not comply, they get fined and jailed, stripping them of their rights. Women have no such obligation in the United States, so if anyone was just "given" rights, it was women.

    I find it great to celebrate women. Outside our rich western world many woman has limited rights: Who to merry, where to live, what to study and live in fear. We are not saying that women are weak, we are encouraging women’s freedom to choose and to be free.

    Women's day is not about smiling women from all over the World. It is about a Century old continuing STRUGGLE for being treated equally with men, right to vote, respect, paid, access to education, being heard and elected politically. Google, you're doodle isn't reflecting this.

      I'm not entirely convinced by your comment. I feel like associating an international day about women with struggle and pain would not be a great thing on such a large scale and on the long run... I mean sure some of those issues still need addressing but having a day for a group of people to uplift their spirits seems like a better idea. This is afterall an *international* day.

    Can we just celebrate the day what it is without any arguments? Men are not more superior than women nor is women more superior than men. We are equals and can people stop shitting all over the day by making stupid comments of how it’s all one sided? Men get an international men’s day, 2014, November the 19th. You men haven't been forgotten and nor has females been forgotten. Can we just have a day where it's celebrated of women's independence and the hardships they overcome, without the need of the day being shit all over, kthanks.

    I'm sorry to say this, and no doubt it's because I was arbitrarily born with a Y-chromosome that gives me these bigoted views, but 'International Women's Day' seems like such a stupid idea.
    Do we (by which I mean humanity generally, not just non-feminists) need a day to acknowledge women's contributions to the world when uber-feminists are constantly ramming it down our throats that women are important? Yes, there are women who have made great contributions to world history (Marie Curie, Florence Nightingale, Marie-Sybilla Merian, Margaret Thatcher and Eva Peron, to name a few), but let's face it: the majority of inventions, discoveries and intellectual contributions were made by men. Yet International Men's Day (19th November for those who haven't read the comments) isn't given airtime or acknowledgement.
    There are plenty of strong, independent women for whom I have huge respect and love, and I'm pretty sure most of them would just scoff at this ridiculous idea.

      And to celebrate Women's international day, let's hear the old blues sang by all MRAs around the world: "Boo hoo why don't white cishet men have everything?"

    • @Acebender
      @Acebender 10 лет назад +3

      Joe Wilson
      I'm gonna pass on those bullshit egalitarian videos, alright? Because, you see, your views and my views on equality are quite different. Imagine the world like if it were divided in just a boy and a girl. The boy has three candies, and the girl just one. Feminism wants to give the girl two candies to make her equal to the boy, and until getting there feminism cheers the girl up so she doesn't believe she's less than the boy. Apparently, you would give two candies to the girl, AND another two candies to the boy.
      That, my friend, is bullshit equality. The distance is just the same.
      Why don't we celebrate all genders? Because one of the genders is already privileged, man!
      This video in no way supports hate against men. How does it do that? I'm really asking you because, dude, I don't see it. I just see a video that celebrates women. A video that tells women "We can do it." This video is hope for the women.
      Men don't need hope because they already have it.

    • @Acebender
      @Acebender 10 лет назад

      Joe Wilson Oh, and by the way, if I had a son I'd educate him in knowing how the world is, knowing the unfairness of women's position in society. My own brother knows that, how can't you?

    • @kxish
      @kxish 10 лет назад +6

      ***** you are either misinformed or misguided. Feminism does not want equality. Feminism wants 4 candles for the girl and 3 candles for the boy because they feel women deserve it after all the years of perceived suffering. The vast majority of men who oppose feminist views do so because feminism is about misandry and inequality. The voice of feminism is not about empowerment, it is the attack against males.

    I'm surprised by the comments that are not kind or are making fun of this day. It is a fact that women face a disproportionate amount of social, economic (and health) inequality and abuse around the world. One of the biggest ways this can change is for MEN to also recognize these issues and desire to make a positive change for their mother's daughters, and other women. When men comment saying "I want a day for men" that's not so bad at face value. Have your day, then. BUT, HONOR women and say kind things on this day to them. Furthermore, support the global efforts for better maternal healthcare and financial opportunity and more!

Is it appropriate to celebrate your wedding anniversary which just so happens to be the anniversary of your parents tragic death.

We have black history month, women's day, national coming out day, etc. Are white males not allowed to say anything? Or did the definition of racism change? Now who's acting "superior" and "racist"?

    This isn't just celebrating women-which is wonderful in and of itself-but INTERNATIONAL women. It's celebrating equality in all the corners of the earth. And for all of those out there wondering how this is "equal"- why do you have a birthday? If we're all equal, why do you get one day all to yourself? Who gave birth to you and allowed you to have a birthday in the first place? A woman. It's one day a year that women get all to themselves. Sort of like a collective birthday for all of my international sisters out there and myself. Therefore, because humans have free will (debatable, but that's a different story), I'm going to celebrate this day just like I do every other day.
