The only way Bioware could make a good game now would be if someone like Elon Musk bought them and made a complete purge, firing everyone with pronouns in their bios or a history of political activism and then replace them with top talent who just want to make a good game and not spread a message.
Dragon Age 2 was a lower-stakes, smaller game released just 2 years after Origins and still managed to be captivating, respectful with our choices, with a well written story and characters and replayability. I would sooner play dragon age 2 again than veilguard again and if DA 4 was a smaller but well written game I would be here for it too
It's quite telling that the one they sent out to troll fans with the Hero of Ferelden false promise was not someone significant to the series such as John Epler or even Patrick Weekes, but rather Cory Busche... a mere director who can be replaced at any time and whose entire identity is a lie.
There are two problem major problems. 1.) Companies keep hiring activists. 2.) Lack of creative direction and integrity. Large companies especially invested way too much into trying to look inclusive instead of hiring people based on skill, talent, and merit. Veilguard is a quintessential example of what happens when you prioritize "the message" instead of respecting the source material. All races lost their distinctive traits. Moral ambiguity was discarded thrown out the window. The source material was stepped on. The characters were sanitized and made way too nice, with the main character Rook being the biggest offender. Because love for the source material wasn't put into the story, there are gaping plot holes that were never addressed, like why everyone trusted Rook and nobody questioned why he was talking to himself, constantly, out loud, and in front of people. I could go on and on, but you get it. This game may not be forgotten, but it won't be remembered in a positive light. Come 5 years from now, no one will look at Veilguard and say "this game was actually really good." The foundation for this game is bad, and so it's not possible for it to be remembered fondly, definitely not by fans of the older games who have fond memories of the game despite their numerous flaws.
The players who actually like the game are engaged in this weird toxic positivity where even the slightest criticism is policed and grounds for a ban (at least on reddit).
@@joethealternativegamer3935 Yup. I got permanently banned from the steam forum for saying Patrick Weekes was incompetent. Others were banned for asking how the sales were going. I appealed my ban and was told by Steam that it was BioWare that banned me.

Ask any gamer if they have a backlog. There's so many good games out right now. Lot of them easily take more than 80-100 hours. Bioware has to compete for a spot on our backlog, or a place to cut in line. They clearly don't like their customers or the franchise, so why should we? If they don't care about their fans, how can they expect the game to sell? Money comes from sales. SALES. From customers! If you want to sell a game, you need customers.
Also they have deleted negative reviews on steam at least two times that I've seen, right before the game dropped to mixed reviews. Nothing BioWare does will sell this game, it's simply awful

What you didn't mention, but what bothers me every time I want to play the game, is the time it takes to set (> 30 minutes the 1st time) and later verify those bloody shaders (4 minutes). OK, my desktop is old, but the CPU is good, the memory is good, only the GPU is barely good enough (I need to play at 90% redenfering, but the image quality is good enough). But those shaders ... What I don't understand is why they want to build a new game every time from scratch. What was wrong with the character generator in DAI? What was wrong with the gameplay in DAI? I think there is too much focus on 'updating' technology instead of focussing on the story and the lore, as you said. It killed the last two seasons of Game of Thrones and it is killing DA now.
You ask a fair question: Why do these companies purposefully go against their audience ? (Walt Disney Star Wars, Ubisoft, EA) 98% of the management and direction in these companies don't actually believe that this will work but are going along with it to keep their job. Glaad and Blackrock others made financially favorable loans based on DEI scores. AND THESE ACTIVITS HAVE BILLIONAIRES FUNDING IT. Rainbow billionaires are trying to buy a shift in societal norms. Your 75$ is pocket change in the fight to normalize the grooming of children. Now Blackrock doesn't believe but it creates a pump and dump in the shares of the said company, so yeah Blackrock dumps those shares ASAP. Funny world.
