Sorry to hear cillian has left GCN - having some more regular side of cycling outside of the ex pros was always interesting (only Olly left that regularly come in front of the camera)
After being medically discharged from the British Armed Forces following a knee injury sustained in Afghanistan. I’ve endured five failed surgeries and a knee replacement that has also failed. I crumbled into depression and PTSD. Lying in bed contemplating ending my life, I switched on the TV and watched four crazy men cycling up an alpine hill on various naff bikes. Dan, Si, Matt and Tom. I cried laughing and laughed so much, I couldn’t stop crying. In that moment I learnt to cry again. Si won, by the way. I fell in love with cycling and GCN. A new purpose became something of an obsession but healing came with it.. All because of GCN and a remarkable long-suffering wife of 34 years. Having piled on the weight through the struggles, I’ve now dropped 28kg and my goal is to climb ‘The Alpe’ in real life. The knee is still knackered and painful but cycling has helped me cope with the physical and mental struggle. GCN, you make me laugh and I hope you’re still enjoying those zip ties I sent to Si! My hope for GCN: Just keep pedalling. More adventure movies? More training tips for older and physically challenged riders? Just keep pedalling GCN and thank you for all you’ve done and will do.
Would love to see content on older cyclists and how to maintain and improve in the 50+, 60+, and 70+ age categories. We are a growing group, and around my parts it is often older cyclists with the nicer bikes because we have the money.
@@MH19577as a fellow 60 pluser, I get it but I'm going to fight it tooth and nail on my race geometry bike until the wheels fall off or rather my legs fall off or who knows, maybe both.
I understand you can’t do live streaming of racing, but something GCN+ did that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else is the ~30min highlight videos. Perfect to watch the morning after (in Australia), when the 5min highlights don’t quite capture the drama but watching the whole stage is impractical.
Racing rights can be very complex, we don't currently have plans or rights to be able to show the highlights. It's great that you enjoyed out highlight packages. You can now get these on Discovery +
@@gcnmost of the Discovery+ highlights are rubbish... most just show only the last 20km or so of the race. Their app is crap too. I hope you figure out a way to bring live cycling back - it seems me and many more would pay.
as a person who does not have the means to pay for these shows, I am grateful for your work, and grateful tot eh people who provide it to me free of charge. thank you.
I really liked the old, funnier videos you all used to do when Matt Stephens and Emma Pooley were still part of the team. I.E. devious ways to beat your mates, top ten things not to wear when cycling, foods not to eat on a bike, etc. Nice little pick-me-ups in the middle of the day. Some of the older videos for maintenance were also really good - I.E. Si's videos showing how to adjust derailleurs, adjust brakes, change a tube, etc. Those were all super helpful years ago when I was first getting into cycling. Happy to hear that GCN is independent again!
Great you got rid of that millstone around your proverbial necks. Warner Bros / Discovery have different priorities (I know I have worked in the media advertising industry for 30+ years). Glad GCN has its independence back!
Congratulations on the new start. Sorry to hear the on line presence has been reduced again. I hope the site and the app make a renewed appearance when you have built your business up again.
Guys - one can simply not overstate the true fact that you have changed the entire sport of cycling - making it friendlier, more welcoming and better for the world-wide cycling tribe. 10 years ago, in the Oakland, CA airport while wearing my original blue GCN t-shirt I was stopped by not one, but two separate security workers, who couldn't stop talking about how much they loved GCN/those guys. Oakland is quite a ways away from Bath! You are legends, so please just keep being yourselves. I have only one life-bucket list item, and that is to buy Dan and/or Simon a pint in person to thank you for leaving a remarkably positive mark on our collective cycling life. Chapeau young men - onward and upward!!!
Really enjoyed the Slow Cycling series, and "light touring" (for lack of a better word) content in general. Into the more intense adventure/bikepacking as well, but quiet exploration of stuff around the corner is I think a niche of its own! Also, I, for one, do appreciate Si's poetry, at least in tandem with bicycles. Pardon the pun. I hope the return to independence brings with it some predictable stability, and I'm sorry to hear that colleagues will be lost. I hope they are well. Let us know how we'll be submitting stuff in the future.
@@gcn Slow cycling videos were so enjoyable, I bought several of the accompanying books and use them when my wife and I cycle together. Ps Thank you for such a brilliant channel - although I'm a mountain biker (and some time tourer) I tend to watch GCN. GUESS I wont be eligible for the bike vault!
I look forward to the next chapter of GCN. I began following GCN in 2014 when I took up cycling at 64. GCN has entertained, informed and challenged me through 60,000 miles and 3 cancer diagnoses and treatments. I was one of the early GCN+ subscribers and saddened as it disappeared. My thanks to all the terrific presenters and staff and best wishes for the future. I’ll be watching.
The main reason I signed up to GCN+ was for the documentaries which were brilliant. More of the feature length endurance and challenge films would be great as well as the Slow Cycling series. Looking forward re-watching the GCN+ films again and new stuff to come.
I was a subscriber on GCN+ and while it was the best place for live racing, I was there mostly for the documentaries and epic rides. Can't wait to be able to watch the ones I havn't seen yet and maybe even rewatch some of the old ones. Very exciting!
Free at last, free at last and apparently free from copy editors as well. The two of you were off and rambling as if the boss had left the building. A well earned sigh of relief due to the entire GCN team.
Time to bring back some fan-faves: Hank’s Dad, Brother-in-law Nigel, DIY Gravel challenge, building a race track in Conor’s garden, Roadies vs TT, group rides to the beach, Dan on a bike, bike reviews, GCN vs GMBN or GTN…
May I suggest a series on how age affects the body and how an older cyclist can improve / maintain performance or postpone decline. For example a Dr’s view on how the body ages, what are the changes taking place and how they affect cycling. What is a safe way to exercise as you get older, how often and how hard? Are there any off-bike things older cyclists can do so they can stay on the bike longer into old age. Also women’s cycling deserve supporting and in my view you shouldn’t shy away from the difficult female topics which live in the closet such as menopause, menstruation, chauvinism, etc. I also loved your series on how cycling changed peoples lives such as Orla Walsh. In short it’s hard to narrow it down as I have really missed the films on GCN+ and now I’m looking forward to it coming back soon, but this is tinged with sadness and sympathy for those who have lost jobs as a consequence of the change.
I've been asking and asking for a segment focused on how women cyclists can keep their UT safe on multiple day bikepacking and other long endurance adventures. We can't keep wearing the same shorts and shammies and how do you pack enough for say a month's long adventure? Are there quick drying ones that can be washed and ready the next morning? You offered a very good segment re menstruation, but yes, menopause would be good to explore as well. Manon Rocks! by the way. : )
I'm really glad to hear that the GCN+ films will be made available again. One of my big regrets with the development of GCN+ was that we never properly facilitated comments or any kind of feedback on the films. It was always on the to-do list but just never made it to the top. So I'm glad now that all the films will be on a platform where GCN fans can finally publicly give the films the appreciation they deserve.
Some subtle fan kit - just nice designs with basic GCN logo. Presenter challenges were also top. Really want to see Dan on a bike again. How about a tandem race, Si and Dan vs Ollie and Manon vs Conor and Hank vs Alex and his Mrs (Chloe?)
Cillian if you read this all the best, hope you can stay in cycling we enjoy what you bring. Shout out to the people whose names and faces we don't all know as well.
@@cilliankelly1 Make sure your employment solicitor has a copy of the video where Hank and Connor dressed up like Keystone Cops to "arrest" you and then Dan berates you, that should be worth a significant upgrade on your severance package.
I'm a blind stoker who rides a tandem in Aus. Back in the day I subscribed to GCN+, but stopped after a couple of attempts due to the lack of accessibility withe a screen reader (mobile phone/computer talking software). Under the old partnership/ownership I never received a response when advised of the issue, nor found improvement when periodically retrying. I've never had issue with watching RUclips content when free, please can time be taken to ensure any membership model is accessible? Have particularly enjoyed content from Ollie doing the Stalvio, Hank and Mark. Would love to see/follow an ultra cyclists training and ride of IndiPac - Pearth to Sydney. Heck, this post is almost as long as a Si and Dan video!!! 😎
Id like to see a program on the audax scene in the uk. Really glad that GCN are back doing what they do best. Well done, congratulations and good luck to all involved 😁🚴🏼
My wife and I LOVE the training videos with Manon, Hank, and Connor! We’re really hoping they continue as we’ve noticed there haven’t been any new ones in several months.
I was literally half way through the doco on Sonny Colbrelli when the GCN+ feed went dead...as a doctor, a cyclist and someone with a heart condition it was a very moving tale of survival and close to me personally. So please can I finish watching it now? There were so many GCN+ films that I never got to watch....I thought they would be around for ever, so very excited that they are coming back (Fun fact: There is a cardiac electrical disorder that can lead to cardiac arrhythmia and sudden death first described by a Spanish Dr, Dr Brugada in 1992 and called Brugada Syndrome. Turns out there are three Brugada brothers, all cardiologists, and all expert in these disorders that can cause sudden cardiac death. By chance one of these the youngest Dr Brugada's is the head of cardiology at Girona and was responsible for looking after Sonny after his cardiac arrest...talk about lucky.)
I want more crossover fun with gmbn. And I want more amateurs under your tutelage. Average person being helped along by ex pro’s i think feels inspirational. Weird videos where you try to make things more aero with cardboard or something would be fun.
To ease Si's mind towards zip-ties and as as nod to the NASA tidbit, i can confirm that as a worker on Ariane 6 space launcher, every single piece of our wiring system is held up in place by zip-ties (we call them Ty-rap, which is a brand, like Loctite or Scotch). We don't have to use nail clippers to trim them thankfully, we use completely over-engineered clamping tools that basically do the same job...
Great news that you’ve secured GCN in Bath for the future. Would be great to see a video on cyclocross in the autumn (hopefully with no broken bones!) and also on interpreting the data obtained from power meters and rides etc, then using that to inform better training using Strava, veloviewer, intervals etc.
Just build an open mold knockoff Giant TCR for 1200 bucks, it's the same thing as a superbike. China carbon is China carbon, what you get is a crap shoot, any brand.
@@evan5167 You can get a high quality Toray T-800 rim brake Giant TCR knockoff with the same plastic as anything else for 300 dollars now. You are behind the times on open mold Chinese bikes.
Be fans of the classics and the grand tours. Many cannot attend. Cover the races as if we are there! You are in a camper or on the mountain stage. Provide the experience of a bike race fan. No one does this. You can be first and set the standard and own the experience. One summary broadcast per day to capsulate the stage. Cheers!
Whew! I was getting worried when the website stopped updating. Sad to see that go, but hopefully Killian still has a job. So glad GCN isn’t going away!
It’d be great to see more local adventure/challenges with normal viewers. Two videos come to mind: 1- Flandrien challenge, my wife and I literally flew from Colorado to Oudenaarde to take this on and get our cobbles. 2- Hank’s bikepacking video with the two chaps cross the channel and back to London by work on Monday Blend these two together! throw down the gauntlet for GCN challenge routes, maybe sell a tshirt or engraved local trinket so those who complete the challenge can collect. Do them all over, and maybe alongside a viewer. This would be interesting to watch and motivate viewers to take on challenges.
I’d like more factory tours. More accessories being reviewed and tested on GCN. I’d like more presenters in more bike packing ( doesn’t need to be multi day, none of mine are ) and challenge races. Coming in 10th from Last is absolutely acceptable. I’d also like more Connor more of the time.
Content that I'm interested in continuing to see: More women presenters and content along the lines of what Manon has been doing (especially breaking taboos!), Commuter challenges, Epic long rides/personal bests/ backpacking adventures, science physiology/training deep dives (a la Si & Manon zone 2 Ollie/Conor on nutrition, Dan on whole health makeover) how to videos, personal stories of how people got into cycling, triumphs and frustration with bicycle advocacy. Love thisand keep up the great work!
@gcn my coach eanna mcgrath would be good, he's a physiologist and has coached a current wt rider and Olympic triathlete. Would offer a good insight to training amateurs as that's who he mainly works with.
I was so happy to here this news. I love the documentaries about adventure cycling, Jenny Graham bikepacking, the slow cycling series and Josh Ibbott. I’d really like to see more of these videos about accessible adventure cycling. I also really liked the mountain series of videos where you told us the history of the passes and Cols over the years and then cycled them. It would also be really nice to see you go out with average cyclists on adventures just to show how accessible this sport really is. Maybe budget bike adventures is worth looking at? Really glad to have GCN getting back to how it should be and good luck for the future.
In 2014 I picked up a road bike for the first time and since then I have become a pretty avid cyclist. Bicycles have changed my life. My wife rides and we’re hoping to get my toddler up and spinning on his own soon. I have GCN to thank for all of this. All those informational videos and maintenance tips. I grew my tool collection substantially to where I can do all the basics in my work stand. Gratifying, to say the least. I’m so happy you guys are indie again. Can’t wait to see what you create! All the best 😎
When I heard GCN had their company back I was stoked! Still, more than a little disappointed that we won't be getting the racing back. I absolutely loved it.
Glad to hear GCN will be continuing! In terms of what I'd like to see, more bike repair/mechanic content, non racing content (commuter , cargo bikes, etc...) , the videos Si has done around his own cargo bike have been really good. Keep up the great work...
With the demise of GCN+ I went foraging for other creators on YT to get my fix of bike watching hours back up, and discovered and absolute goldmine of stories of people bikepacking all over the planet, and docos of all descriptions, as well as news style chats on all things bikes. I'll continue to watch those channels even though their uploading is less often, but often enough that I dont feel the need to pay for documentary content. Its the racing I miss most and why I subscribed in the first place.
One suggestion I would offer is a series of shows on the history of the bicycle and the bicycle's greater influence on cultures worldwide. From what I've read, bicycles were initially invented to offer poor people an inexpensive alternative to horses for transportation. Bicycles played a role in the Women's Suffrage Movement in the U.S. Bicycles have been used as weapons of war and are still regularly used by law enforcement officers all over the world. Bicycles have been used to haul cargo, by lawn mowing crews to move around cities, and to deliver food, plane tickets and the mail. In addition to Wilcox's expedition, there are some other interesting bicycle expeditions that have taken place. Herlihy's book The Lost Cyclist is a fascinating look at the disappearance of an American man who attempted to (mostly) ride his bicycle around the world in the 1890's. It includes pictures he took along the way in various locations around the world. A podcast about that book might be interesting to some. Bicycles led to the development of motorcycles. The Wright Brothers (first verified powered flight) were bicycle shop owners.
Right now, bikepacking races are the hot thing (dot-watching the tour Divide) without any broadcasting rights, this could be a venue GCN could venture into. (Josh Ibbit, GCN friend is ideal to hire for that)
Yes I would love more content on ultra bikepacking races as well. Race analysis, what to bring / gear check and bike check videos, would all be awesome. And indeed Josh Ibbett is a natural presenter and youtuber as well!
@@gcn yes, but still a lot of innovation can be achieved here to get more up to date updates with on board camera’s similar to camera footage from the bike, audio updates and waypoint updates on certain points en route, following the race from waypoints with fixed camera’s (like snow cameras), supply a support team driving between the riders with cameras etc.
I loved the GCN+ videos! The culture/ homelands, slow cycling, makers, travel blogs, long form versions of your epic tours, extreme challenges, icons of the sport. They were all fabulous. Videos made by another maker that could be a fantastic addition are the Cafe Rides Matt Stephens does for Sigma. The cafe ride is such an iconic part of the cycling scene, it just works. The breadth of subject matter you covered on those videos was astounding and the production values were exemplary. I do enjoy finding out about new tech, but my default ‘tight arse’ would love to see a little more content about keeping older but still very functional older bikes as relevant as possible too. I’m a very proud rider of a ‘Trigger’s Broom’ bike from the turn of the millennium. The only standard bits from the original bike are the frame, forks, headset (which is due an update!) and the seat post. I still love that bike, or should I say ‘frame’. I keep looking for a new bike, but very little suits my budget/ expectations apart from what I see on the second hand market. But in a nutshell, keep putting out the good and varied content, but don’t forget about the older viewers too. I’m getting on for 60 now, so a Lloydie style fitness journey featuring someone further along life’s path would be fab too. It would be very interesting to delve into what can be done to slow down the fitness decline.
Really like when the GCN presenters are going for personal challenges, like Dans transformation right now, Si going for the gravel worlds, when Ollie went for the hour record, Manon was trying to improve in only zone 2, and loads of more challenges. The updates, learnings, ups and downs are really inspiring and useful! So the presenters going for different challenges, whether it is for an event or personal improvement, keeping us updated in the process and showing the results are great! Keep up the good work :)
Glad that Warner Bros didn’t get to shut you down. They shut a bunch of other studios that I really enjoyed, so I’ve been silently scared that the same would happen to GCN. I’d like to continue to see mainly the same things on this channel, and have some additional content behind the paywall. We are here for the personalities and bikes. The bikes don’t need to be top of the end either, they are out of most of our price points
One of my favourite series was watching the Irish presenter, name i cannot remeber, training for Flanders and Letape tours. Maybe you could do a male and female Fat to CAT series. Your regular average family joes and get them into a training plan to enter a crit race. Another could be training series via Zwift with a GCN coach over the winter leading up to a specific UK race. Regional GCN meet ups.
I watch every single ad all the way to the end and I feel this is my way of contributing to the channel. Hope videos keep coming because it would be a huge blow to the cycling community to see you all going.
Would love to see more diversity. GCN does a great job of representing white male, eurocentric, road cycling. While there has been a recent increase in content related to female cycling (kudos to Manon!), the predominant focus of content is that of the white male. Not a complaint, an observation, and a response to the request for comment of what viewers would like to see GCN do in the future. Given GCN aims to be a 'global' cycling network it would be great to see more content covering people of colour and the various different types of cycling movements around the world. Perhaps this could be in collaboration with established groups or content creators (like the Black Cyclists Network, or Miss Omar @AuntieKay28 who promotes cycling amongst Muslim women)? It would be great to see videos on the keirin scene in Japan, fixed gear cyclocross, trail dogs (dogs who love to run trails while their owners ride), crit racing, the eccentric hill climb scene in the UK (to name a few). One of the GCN aims is to encourage/inspire more people to get on bikes, remember representation matters. If you can see it, you can be it! All that said, glad to see that GCN has survived the turbulent last few years of growth, buy-outs, mergers. Best of luck for continued success throughout this new phase 🙂
On helmet usage in the Netherlands: speaking as a resident there, I think this will be a difficult transition as people will not see the perceived risk and it definitely would be a "barrier" - simply because the current threshold is so low. It's something else to bring (also for the kids), would mess your hair, etc... If it became law it would either not be respected or would have a major impact on bike usage. The reason bikes are used here is that it is so easy and (generally) safe. Hitting the race bike, or great single tracks in the woods is a different deal - 99% of people where helmets then. But simply riding a bike to a work meeting (or visiting the King, if you're Mark Rutte) and turning up with helmet hair would be a very practical reason not to take the bike. I write this having grown up in the UK, where I typically wore a helmet. Conditions are completely different here.
If cyclists have to wear helmets then pedestrians should, too, lots of uneven walkways for them to trip over on, or stone steps to fall down (or up!). Be consistent!
Whatever happened to personal responsibility? People here in NL recognise that the everyday cycling risk is minimal, as is the difference that helmets would make….so 99% of (non-sporting) rides are made without them. People are not generally stupid and we all take hundreds of small calculated risks every day…driving, crossing a road, going outside, eating and drinking, incurring stress at work etc etc. Cycling without a helmet is just another one such risk. Why should people be forced to wear one, when theres no impact on other people from that choice. (Don’t mention healthcare cost from the very occasional incident…before you compare it to the societal cost of 20 million new helmets). Imo, it is just nanny-state nonsense promoted by people who want to control other people’s lives.
Riding a bike with no helmet is a 0.10 micromort activity. To put that in perspective sitting on the couch for an hour watching TV is a 2 micromort activity. Stop spreading misinformation on the dangers of no helmet cycling.
I stumbled across GCN channel about a year ago now. And since then, my bank balance is alot lighter thanks to your must have equipment and must cycle places/routes 😂. I truly love this show and all it's presenters. My favourite parts are your long outdoor adventure challenges and muggles vs pro fitness challenges. I look forward to seeing GCN plus videos on here and I would quite happily pay to support your amazing channel. Some ideas would be, *Bike relay challenges against other GCN presenters across the globe. *Continue to take part in cycle races around the world. *Do a competition with your viewers and the winner is trained by one of you to enter a race by the end of the training week or month. You can make it into several episodes detailing their training, nutrition, daily struggles and achievements and fitting it around their "normal day to day life" such as work and family. I can see the title now.. "Can an ex pro cyclist get you race fit?!" I'd watch it lol *And finally to continue to do more videos on long outdoor adventure rides. I love seeing different parts of the world through GCN. I now have many more places to visit thanks to GCN. Thank you and keep up the good work! 😍
I can tell you from the Netherlands, helmets are advised for those riding electric bikes, not on our normal bikes. wearing helmets is fairly common on mountainbikes and race bikes
New campaign from Dutch trauma surgeons is pushing for even wider adoption. There’s a giant sign into the bike cellar encouraging it at the hospital I work in.
I've said it last week and I'll say it again: I'm wearing my helmet on my daily commute, and it's not on an electric bike. It is, however, partially due to electric bikes. More people with more differing speeds on the same bike lane leads to more dangerous situation. Especially the people who seem to be thinking "I've paid top money for this bike now I'm going to ride top speed on a busy bike lane." It's made me decide I'll never ride my race bike over 30 while in a town.
Happy to see your newfound independence. Love the show, films, and interviews. I’d love to have GCN Training get more attention. Long winters means lots of time on the trainer but I don’t want to pay for an online service I’m only going to use for 5 months (plus the hardware costs). Those videos of old showing the POV climbing up iconic mountains was really motivating in February!
Can't begin to explain the immense impact and benefit GCN has had on my cycling life. So glad you're sticking around - tho I will miss the GCN+ Race coverage - keep this on whilst working from home 🙂 Will be signing up for the documentaries & Dans OF ASAP. ;-)
Agreed, Mark and Si doing the NC500 is one of my favourite GCN vids, and Jenny taking Manon bikepacking was another. Amy was great in her appearances with Conor as well.
GCN live streams for big cycling events would be awesome! Maybe a reaction programme might be something to scale up GCN Racing a bit (e.g. reacting to crazy good performances, hot takes by cyclists etc.)
I'll sign up and I am open for a payment model. What I really appreciated: Compact overview of the pro racing teams and short profile of every rider (had been part of the GCN app, but disappeard at some point) / Race Calenders Writen race commentry, seasonal highlighttopic like "Spring classics" providing some extra background information on the history of the races etc. That has contemplated the live racing I started watching on Discovery. So it really was not only about enjoying the videos, but also about reading text I really enjoyed, since they were well written.
It might be cool to have a series that just follows an amateur racer racing amateur races. The Weekday crit, local Time Trials, etc. and using that as a springboard for observations and conversations.
@@gcn that was probably the best thing GCN gave cycling on top of all the other good stuff. Miss the friends I made from all over the world and seeing their cycling adventures.
Helmets in the Netherlands :) nobody likes them but with the rising popularity of the E bikes everything is a lot faster now days. Infra structure is top notch but the speeds on the bike lanes are not longer mostly under 18km they are above it
You're saying as soon as Cilian fixed the uploader, the website will be taken down... ^^ Seeing how rushed WB/D changed things up in the MTB World Cup, feels like just for the sake of change, i see a brighter future for GCN this way. Because it's probably reasonable to assume that this way to do business was not limited to the MTB WC. I feel like opening up the topics to all those things around cycling would be interesting: - what makes a good cycle path and what goes into planning and building one? - Interview people that are experts in anything cycling related (city planners, engineers, physios, coaches, cyclists etc.) - testing daily driver bikes (not talking about road bikes, more about city bikes etc.) - how to use cycling as cross training (including things like pump tracks etc.) - therapy sessions with Cilian once the new uploader works - trying other cycling disciplines you never done before - cycle ball tournament between the different channels. regarding the picture for the caption competition: to me it looks like it's on the Gotthardpass (Passo San Gottardo), even though they only done the north side and the iconic "Tremola" is on the south side of the pass (which would be a "must" if you ever make it here for any videos).
have a monthly panel with GCN sister members and talk about cycling topics, maybe even topics proposed by the community. Assuming the other GCN sister channel members talk English too.
GCN inspired me to start cycling. :) A GCN Shop on mainland Europe would be a big plus do. :P saves your fans a lot of import fees wen buying some great GCN gear. ( Making vids that inspire non cyclist to give it a go and go out there should be a focus point :)
Hi Dan & Si! I'm happy with much of the content that you've made over the years. The channel was instrumental during my first few years on a road bike, and it has clearly made an impact in my life for the better. That's why I keep coming back. In regards to content I would want to see as a paying subscriber, I would love to see some more tech content that goes into detail on certain subjects (narrow&nerdy). Think of it like expanding your already impressive library, but focused on narrow topics, like adjusting bearing preload or the maintenance and assembly of the gear mechanism in Campagnolo 10 and 11-speed levers. Aside from that, the tech video dedicated (or mostly dedicated) to advice and q&a is one of my favourites. Focus on older components and drivetrains would be appreciated every now and then. Someone like Cannings with an encyclopedic mind and intricate knowledge about the history of components and bikes would be a godsend. Personally, I'm pretty invested in Campagnolo 10 and 11-speed drivetrains, aside from the one bike with Shimano Dura Ace 7800. Parts availability is becoming a challenge and as the parts age they develop a need for some intricate maintenance. However, giving the components their deserved maintenance and keeping our aging bikes on the road might not be a "cool" topic.
Here is an idea why don’t you have a used parts shop on the website so people can get their hands on some of that classic 11 speed Gear and other bits and bobs in one place. Just an idea for the New GCN.
No worries about the storage of the new LIDL Trek bottles…I’m quite sure that after viewing this episode, someone will 3D print (and submit the photos to Hack/Bodge) a special bottle holder suitable for refrigerating the bottles that will also double as a detergent bottle holder.
Would be nice but it was a subscription 😅 You have access as long as you are subscribed. Netflix etc don’t give you all their old content for free because you subscribed years ago
Heraclitus: 'There is nothing permanent except change.' I'm glad to hear that GCN will continue despite the internal restructuring. I've been a cyclist in the USA for over 35 years and am impressed as to how GCN keeps coming-up with new and interesting content. I started reading Bicycling Magazine in the 1980s I was a teenager, but no longer care for the direction that Bicycling Magazine has gone as they seem to be bent on pushing political agendas more than simply focusing on cycling content. GCN has done a great job of just sticking to cycling... I appreciate that.
Dear GCN, You have said it - I too have been mourning the sudden loss of GCN Plus, and have not subscribed to any other platform. I have found that this way I have more time to ride my bike :D And can make do with the short recaps uploaded by Eurosport and Lanterne Rouge. I do also miss the original content and am glad to hear that it will be making its way over here to RUclips. I am curious to see the pricing model you are going to go for with those originals. As for what I'd like to see more of - more of the same, really - honest and well researched videos. I suspect it's not something that can be done (yet, still?), but it would be nice if Matt popped back for a video or two - the chemistry the three of you had was truly something special. A more ambitious idea would be a GCN road show around Europe, or the whole World! :D Edit: Almost forgot! Bring back the Wattage Bazooka please :) Edit2: My name is not Isaac, and yet I watched till the very end ;)
Would love a GCN discord server to mimic the community engagment that was lost with GCN+. Place to post ride photos and comment and debate with other fans.
Reviews! I know there is the inside joke that GCN only ever make adverts, but if you put resources into making review videos - including criticism of the reviewed product you have the might to change the industry for the better!

MUCH MUCH less marketing and MORE performance/ lifestyle videos !!! As someone who cares very little about the latest tech, those videos get no views from me. I am happy with the bikes and tech I have and am more interested with how I can improve my cycling experience with changes training, nutrition, and exploring different avenues of cycling.
I was so anxious when I saw the title of the video and the blank red screen - you have no idea! My husband and I try to watch pretty much everything GCN makes (we even stay to the end of the weekly show EVERY SINGLE WEEK, no kidding!); GCN is very much a part of our lives and we would be devastated to see anything happen to it. I am very excited to be able to watch the wonderful documentaries again and will be thrilled to pay for whatever membership is required on RUclips. (I hope all the ones that were ever available on GCN+ will be available, including the ones that seemed to "time out" of the GCN app.) I love the occasional group Zwift ride with a GCN presenter. I don't know how you could monetize that exactly, but if you can -- take my money! Autographed merchandize in the GCN Shop -- again, take my money! Christmases, birthdays, Father's Days, and anniversaries would be covered for years.
More thoughts: Some of our favorite GCN content is just the presenters screwing around and having fun together. You did a secondhand bike challenge years ago -- the one where Tom Last did the track-stand on the tricycle -- that we pull up at least a few times a year and rewatch, always ending up with tears of laughter streaming down our faces. The more you can do of that kind of thing, the better, as far as we're concerned. (How long WAS Si's trackstand? You all never said!) We love the challenges, love all the presenters' personalities, and love seeing the scenery on your long rides, even if your "gravel riding" is on grass (says the rural Californian). ;-)
re: garage overwhelm - dan, i was in the same boat recently, and after much procrastination i finally dug in and after a WEEK my garage is organized, well-lit and a nice place to work. it took a lot of effort, but it was worth it.

Sorry to hear cillian has left GCN - having some more regular side of cycling outside of the ex pros was always interesting (only Olly left that regularly come in front of the camera)
Costs and products will be a debate my wife and I will have.
Looking forward to your new adventure especially GCN+ returning.

I will miss Cillian Kelly.
Can someone post a summary of the changes coming to GCN?
Great ideas! We would love creating content for all cyclists we'll keep doing this in the future 🙌
Have a look at Always Another Adventure. Perhaps you could work with this guy.
In particular, the bike itself for 60++ - more relaxed geometry, wider range of gears, higher stem / handlebar height...

The documentaries are still going to be behind a paywall.

That is an item i would love to add to my personal bucket list

Really enjoyed the Slow Cycling series, and "light touring" (for lack of a better word) content in general. Into the more intense adventure/bikepacking as well, but quiet exploration of stuff around the corner is I think a niche of its own! Also, I, for one, do appreciate Si's poetry, at least in tandem with bicycles. Pardon the pun.
I hope the return to independence brings with it some predictable stability, and I'm sorry to hear that colleagues will be lost. I hope they are well.

We can't keep wearing the same shorts and shammies and how do you pack enough for say a month's long adventure? Are there quick drying ones that can be washed and ready the next morning? You offered a very good segment re menstruation, but yes, menopause would be good to explore as well. Manon Rocks! by the way. : )

Really interesting idea 👀Dot watching can be really fun, creating the story in your head is all part of the mystique 🙌

Please stay out of cycling with your strange identity politics. We don't need or want it. And if so I want a White Cyclists Network too.
I will never wear a helmet because someone tells me to. If they want to save lives, ban alcohol, tobacco, sugar etc etc. Oh, and cars.
@@___Bebo___ How many micromorts equal a unit of death?😂
I stumbled across GCN channel about a year ago now. And since then, my bank balance is alot lighter thanks to your must have equipment and must cycle places/routes 😂. I truly love this show and all it's presenters. My favourite parts are your long outdoor adventure challenges and muggles vs pro fitness challenges. I look forward to seeing GCN plus videos on here and I would quite happily pay to support your amazing channel.
Some ideas would be,
*Bike relay challenges against other GCN presenters across the globe.
"Can an ex pro cyclist get you race fit?!" I'd watch it lol
*And finally to continue to do more videos on long outdoor adventure rides.
When you say "advised for those riding electric bikes", you're referring to pedelecs, i.e. bikes which get assistance over 25kph, right?
New campaign from Dutch trauma surgeons is pushing for even wider adoption. There’s a giant sign into the bike cellar encouraging it at the hospital I work in.
I've said it last week and I'll say it again: I'm wearing my helmet on my daily commute, and it's not on an electric bike. It is, however, partially due to electric bikes. More people with more differing speeds on the same bike lane leads to more dangerous situation. Especially the people who seem to be thinking "I've paid top money for this bike now I'm going to ride top speed on a busy bike lane."
It's made me decide I'll never ride my race bike over 30 while in a town.
Ditto continued new GCN Training videos! And I really liked those old climbing training videos, too.
❤
Can't begin to explain the immense impact and benefit GCN has had on my cycling life. So glad you're sticking around - tho I will miss the GCN+ Race coverage - keep this on whilst working from home 🙂 Will be signing up for the documentaries & Dans OF ASAP. ;-)
We needed those videos back, they were fantastic. Just don’t price us out.
We're not going to stop creating the free content on the channel 🙌
I especially like your videos about riding in Tucson. I would love to see GCN enter a team in the ‘24 hours in the Old Pueblo’ event. It’s a hoot.
6 words for what I want to see more of on GCN: Mark Beaumont, Jenny Graham, Amy Perryman
You know you’re an og when you reference Marc Beaumont.
Wholeheartedly agree! (And also can’t believe you haven’t mentioned Matt Stephen’s!!)
Yes Amy Perryman! Such a fantastic attitude and she’s an awesome addition!
Agreed, Mark and Si doing the NC500 is one of my favourite GCN vids, and Jenny taking Manon bikepacking was another. Amy was great in her appearances with Conor as well.
GCN live streams for big cycling events would be awesome! Maybe a reaction programme might be something to scale up GCN Racing a bit (e.g. reacting to crazy good performances, hot takes by cyclists etc.)
would love to see longer race highlights that DONT have spoilers like some others ( cough cough Flobikes)
What?
I'll sign up and I am open for a payment model.
What I really appreciated:
Compact overview of the pro racing teams and short profile of every rider (had been part of the GCN app, but disappeard at some point) / Race Calenders
Writen race commentry, seasonal highlighttopic like "Spring classics" providing some extra background information on the history of the races etc.
That has contemplated the live racing I started watching on Discovery. So it really was not only about enjoying the videos, but also about reading text I really enjoyed, since they were well written.
That world's tallest bike might fit Connor, if they do a large
It might be cool to have a series that just follows an amateur racer racing amateur races. The Weekday crit, local Time Trials, etc. and using that as a springboard for observations and conversations.
You need an App! An App with Jon Cannings, I’d pay a subscription for that 😁
Haha!
You might be onto something there 😉
@@gcn that was probably the best thing GCN gave cycling on top of all the other good stuff. Miss the friends I made from all over the world and seeing their cycling adventures.
Very excited to get access to your GCN+ docs again!
Seeing how rushed WB/D changed things up in the MTB World Cup, feels like just for the sake of change, i see a brighter future for GCN this way. Because it's probably reasonable to assume that this way to do business was not limited to the MTB WC.
I feel like opening up the topics to all those things around cycling would be interesting:
- what makes a good cycle path and what goes into planning and building one?
- Interview people that are experts in anything cycling related (city planners, engineers, physios, coaches, cyclists etc.)
- testing daily driver bikes (not talking about road bikes, more about city bikes etc.)
- how to use cycling as cross training (including things like pump tracks etc.)
- therapy sessions with Cilian once the new uploader works
- trying other cycling disciplines you never done before
- cycle ball tournament between the different channels.
regarding the picture for the caption competition: to me it looks like it's on the Gotthardpass (Passo San Gottardo), even though they only done the north side and the iconic "Tremola" is on the south side of the pass (which would be a "must" if you ever make it here for any videos).
have a monthly panel with GCN sister members and talk about cycling topics, maybe even topics proposed by the community. Assuming the other GCN sister channel members talk English too.
Oooo nice idea! Cyclists round table 👀
Anything with Mark Beaumont. I love all the videos he has done on the channel and on gcn plus
When did 11 speed become classic 😉
No worries about the storage of the new LIDL Trek bottles…I’m quite sure that after viewing this episode, someone will 3D print (and submit the photos to Hack/Bodge) a special bottle holder suitable for refrigerating the bottles that will also double as a detergent bottle holder.
I once was a subscriber of GCN+ and had access to the Originals. I would appreciate if the old members get access to already created and paid films.
Dear GCN,
You have said it - I too have been mourning the sudden loss of GCN Plus, and have not subscribed to any other platform.
Edit: Almost forgot! Bring back the Wattage Bazooka please :)
Edit2: My name is not Isaac, and yet I watched till the very end ;)
Would love a GCN discord server to mimic the community engagment that was lost with GCN+. Place to post ride photos and comment and debate with other fans.
Reviews! I know there is the inside joke that GCN only ever make adverts, but if you put resources into making review videos - including criticism of the reviewed product you have the might to change the industry for the better!
Yes, ask the guys who have just got noticeably poorer to produce unbiased reviews on a free platform.
@@whatwelearned Honest reviews gain a trusted audience. An audience with trust is very valuable to brands. Brands dont break relation ships because they get critiqued in their short comings. This is why they seed products to reviewers, DC rainmaker is a prevalent reviewer in this space. Because although there may be some negatives feedback, its a relationship worth having.
@@dsm1891 Dc rainmaker isn't putting out daily content reviews and employing several people. You have no idea what you're talking about; if you think a channel like this can afford to pay for all that equipment now with literally only yt ad revenue you're bonkers, utterly bonkers
@@whatwelearned okay if you want a channel with over 100 employees check out Linus tech tips :)
I think you would be surprised how much ad revenue gains. And I am not suggesting they stop any ads they do
@@whatwelearnedyeah as much as people moan about it, the partnerships they have with the likes of Pinarello, Pirelli, Silica etc are invaluable to to them
I actually enjoy the longer GCN shows--keeps me entertained on the trainer or while stretching/foam rolling!
(I hope all the ones that were ever available on GCN+ will be available, including the ones that seemed to "time out" of the GCN app.)
I love the occasional group Zwift ride with a GCN presenter.
You all never said!) We love the challenges, love all the presenters' personalities, and love seeing the scenery on your long rides, even if your "gravel riding" is on grass (says the rural Californian). ;-)
Just tell me that John Canning is still with GCN and that he’s going to be okay 😕
He's with us! Dan
Hi, I'm currently on holiday, but still at GCN! Thanks for the message!
John should give his opinion on modern tech in a show.

@@ebikescrapper3925 haha. You guys and girls aren't ready for that!
re: garage overwhelm - dan, i was in the same boat recently, and after much procrastination i finally dug in and after a WEEK my garage is organized, well-lit and a nice place to work. it took a lot of effort, but it was worth it.
I want a t-shirt that says, “The older I get, the faster I was.”
Would love for the racing recaps to come back - those are the ones I miss the most!
