Amazing!!! Total success, no way is that a fail. I thought you were going to stop at 160 bom. It looked like you had sped up the video, good thing you put that it was in real time. Great job😀
There can't be a fail here due to one technicality: You challenged yourself to play it as fast as you could. You played it as fast as you could, then tried faster. Playing it as fast as you could was therefore achieved :)
"So self-deprecating" No, more like self-CRITICAL, honest, and ... a showcase of the ability to accept (and even STRONGER!!!) having the guts to show it openly. I very much appreciate such a deep honesty, and the fact, she has no fear of showing a mishap. Much respect, miss!!!
Nice job! As a double bassist I appreciate the difficulty of playing at 200 bpm. Infact, I found the most difficult part is that at some point you begin to start going too fast and then it is even harder to slow down to revert back to a tempo that is still very fast. I had to use so much rosin and arm weight to slow me down (I find it harder when I can't just go full out speed wise).
That was a marathon - respect! It definitely got better and better the faster you played it. I love at 4:45 when it was really sounding brilliant at 200bpm until the whole thing crashed...very funny!
That was awesome, and as a sailor, I took extra delight in your performance. I was expecting the strings to catch on fire at 200 bpm, but you make it look all too easy, and as a person who only knows how to play a kazoo, I know that playing the violin is extremely difficult to play, let alone perfect as you have done......bravo zulu (Navy jargon for good job)!!
I am not sure if you are aware but at the end of Mike Oldfield's First Tubular Bells Album they play the sailor's hornpipe, speeding it up as they go along. Its a fun way to end the album
Alison, I would guess that you might be aware of a band called Steeleye Span. They do a version of this song live where the start the piece at a fairly normal tempo and then progressively speed things up to about where you were towards the end of your video. It's really neat to hear the entire band going faster and faster to the point where it's almost ridiculous. I'll try to find the link and post it here.
I've played this tune verry often with an orchestra. (as an extra, "zugabe" as our German neighbours call it) starting slowly and accelerando. By the time we reached 170 bpm the audience was clapping their hand, shouting and whistling on their fingers of pure joy and excitement so tha no one could hear any mistaks anymore. You would be the star of the show, the Stehgeiger (if that word is known in English?)
Sooo fast I couldn't see your bow or your fingers move ha! ha! Fantastic. Only just got my violin which I don't have not properly tuned and just playing twinkle! So that's what I have to aim for!
Why is this titled with the word fail in it? This is absolutely wonderful. You cannot fail when you play like that. I used to make my Orchestra teacher red faced and furious, because, at random times, anywhere during a classical piece we were playing, I would immediately break into this song, or pop goes the weasel, and return to the song we had been playing, just as fast. I even did this in school concerts, in front of an auditorium of stunned parents. Good times :D
+The Online Piano and Violin Tutor I noticed that you seem to just use the camera mic, but that time you used that clip on mic. I am also using a camera to record my progress, and I have wondered if its worth while using something like that to get a better recording sound. One thing I noticed is when playing the violin it can be really loud and its hard to really hear it, but when someone else plays it and I'm a further away I can enjoy it more. :)
+David Marks (ElectroTinker) It totally depends on what im doing. If im just do a tutorial where im playing odd parts here and there, I dont bother with the palava of setting up my mic and studio as there really is no point. If im doing full performance videos (like the ones i do on my performance channel) i do the full works as I often sell the mp3 of my playing as they are professionally mixed and recorded.
Bahahaha this is so great!!! I love it! You did a great job of course haha. 4:24 I love to see you smile while playing!! Around 4:31 you look like you're starting to panic just a bit, hehe. This was great fun- can't wait till I can play this song myself. ^_^
wow!that was awesome and a real pleasure to hear!you are one very talented lady and I admire you for your attempts at this. it all sounds great to me, no noticeable errors to my ears!thank you for posting. bobby whitaker
Lol this is so muck fun :D , I been surfing your channel for a quiet long time andmy love for the violent is increases the more I watch your videos . Been to listens , songs you covered and now this :)) great jop you do and please continue to do these fun stuff ... greetings from Lebanon ;))
Have you done a video lesson on what concentration at speed actually consists of? Everything that I have tried that involves simple movements connected in sometimes complex ways at high speeds (notably fencing, but also "sight reading" a mountain bike trail, and trying to learn the violin/fiddle starting at age 45) has depended on getting my conscious mind out of the way so that things can happen faster than the speed of thought. As shabby as my playing is, even now after 17 years of bludgeoning it, when it works it's like an out of body experience in some ways. Certain movements have to be autonomic. Then I can try to work with things like dynamics and embellishments, but only once I know so well where I'm going that the basic framework of the tune more or less can't be lost. But how is it for a real professional who had a younger start?
Bravissimo!!!, As a teacher you are very good, as excellent violinist, and as a woman every day you are more beautiful, how lucky is that guy who plays the piano with you, can see it personally so cute eyes, God bless you , BONITA !!! José Luis from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I could listen to this all night long you're fantastic at what you do. I'm trying to play this on the banjo and absolutely no where as good. But I'll keep trying. Maybe one day in the long long long future. But I'll never match your ability ❤
I would love to hear you play 'Hot Canary''..i tried to learn it once upon a time, but it was far too advanced:P If you ever decide to learn it, I'd love to see the video! Cheers~
by the gods that was fun to watch. I just ordered a stentor 2 and cant wait to start learning to play. that just gave me something to shoot for. I figure ill be one hundred and twelve before I would even come close, but ill have fun trying. :)
Lol...that was great. I found myself smiling and tapping along as you got faster. When you crashed at the end, I lol'd when you did. Well done; much impressed. :)
Wow! Great Video, You're incredibly talented! May I ask you (or anyone who can answer this), is learning to play the Violin difficult? I already play Piano (...though I am not fluent, I can read music, play songs, and know the theory behind Piano), but I am very interested in learning the Violin. Also, does ones' age play a factor in the difficulty of learning (as I am 18?) Many Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Dear Boy! I can assure you that watching the videos of this beautiful teacher and a little practice, you can easily learn to play the violin. You are a 18 year old boy, I'm a boy, but well lived 69 springs, Thank God. I also play piano and banjo, and only about 7 months ago I bought my first violin, and if you want to see my results, you can see on youtube: "En el ACA ruta 2 a Mar del Plata". You are allowed to laugh , and I like to know that you found my video. Whatever you do do it always with joy, a cordial greeting, José Luis from Buenos Aires Argentina. (See also the comments).
I just received my new violin and I have been studying online about violins and how to play because I can't afford lessons so thank you so much for all your videos you are my violin teacher haha however I have looked inside the violin and noticed the wooden "pillar"? Inside the violin is far on one side and I think it's supposed to be more in the middle? Any thoughts on this? If it needs to be moved any suggestions on how to move it? :)
Its called the sound post and is placed in a certain place to get the best sound. Please do not touch it as not only will you not know what you are doing (I dont either as im not a professional Violin Luthier so its not my field of expertise) but you need specialist equipment to move it.
Reminded me of the last night of the Proms ;) Kept expecting a whistle in the back ground or party popper to be let off. I thought you were going to make it...
Is there a similar piano type challenge that is used as a test? Would love to see that (and how wonderful are you to put yourself up to be judged in that way. Always willing to share so others can learn something).
The Online Piano and Violin Tutor Aside - not quiet on topic but you (& everyone else) could search in You Tube for 'Frederic Chopin Musical Moments Woody Woodpecker 1947'. Who will get the piano polish bucket gag? What about the cute little fires!!! - None of which makes sense unless you watch it.(Tee Heee).
İt was great!! You did not end the song, but I wouldn't call that a fail, because, man! Your hands get tired after playing that long!!! Anyways I'm really a fan of playing fast, I loved this video thanks so much for making it! Love you Alison ❤️
I want to buy music from you Alison.. I bought music from Amazon mp3.. then I downloaded on my phone. . Do that and you will have a costumer right here.. Sad Romance. One of my favorite on your interpretation. .

I still consider what you did a victory. I couldn't even do it on 150 bpm at my current skill level. I would really like to see you try some John Williams stuff. Anyway, this was great regardless of the last part.

You should find a way to have to BPM slowly accelerate. Like one BPM every 2 seconds. I think that would be a great way get more accurate results! Instead of stopping and then going up 10 BPM.
Good job! I'd like to politely make a suggestion - that whole tune can be played in 1st position (I play it myself), and I think that shifting position in a speed test may be an unnecessary impediment for you.
YES!! I totally 100% agree - however, the reason was that i just could not find a backing track suitable for what i wanted in a decent key, so i had no choice but to go with this one!
Actually, I just had a re-think about that, Yes, most fiddlers do play it in A maj in 1st position, but they don't play the high C# in bar 2 (C#, B, A) ... which is why they don't need to shift. I notice too that the violinists in the orchestra play the high C# (3rd position) when they play that tune to burnout, on the night of 'Last Night of the Proms' :)
i would suggest 'Two Hornpipes (Tortuga)' by Hans Zimmer from the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest soundtrack for a speed challenge :P quite similar and it sounds really fun to play =)
100 bpm is a fairly normal pace for this tune. It is a danceable hornpipe and if one tries to go it faster for more than 5 or 8 minutes, there will be heartattacks in the crowd. Just a little heads up here.
I don't call that a fail! That was a success with squeaky bits at the end. Excellent effort!
I would hardly call that a fail! That was great!
Mike Oldfield used this theme for finish your famous album "Tubular Bells" (1973).
At one point during the 190 BPM you played it better than at slower speeds! Amazing
What song is that?
I can barely play the song at 70 BPM :P
Sebastian Karlsson :)
So self-deprecating, but you ROCKED IT, y'know.
"So self-deprecating"
No, more like self-CRITICAL, honest, and ... a showcase of the ability to accept (and even STRONGER!!!) having the guts to show it openly.
I very much appreciate such a deep honesty, and the fact, she has no fear of showing a mishap.
Much respect, miss!!!

That was pretty darn amazing! You crack me up! Great job... and thanks for brightening my day!
I play this on mandolin, OMG I'm going to try this, don't think I'll get anywhere close though. That was fun watching you, well done!
That was a marathon - respect! It definitely got better and better the faster you played it. I love at 4:45 when it was really sounding brilliant at 200bpm until the whole thing crashed...very funny!

Good times :D
You're a BEAST! I've played The Irish Washerwoman on Highland Pipes, but not quite that fast.
What a fun tune, and you played it really nicely. I noticed you have a clip on mic. It looks like it might get in the way.
+David Marks (ElectroTinker) no, it really doesnt. Its no where near my bow.
+The Online Piano and Violin Tutor I noticed that you seem to just use the camera mic, but that time you used that clip on mic. At the 200bpm mark with 10 seconds in, I was like "She has this in the bag!!!", but you were adorable after you stopped
SHRED!!!! That is so hardcore!!! You are amazing, love watching you play
very good, finally a video in which it is nice to see the enthusiasm, with self irony, without having to prove that they are perfect !!!! :-)
Ahah !! Very nice !! What was the harder, the right arm or the left fingers ? You're very good !! Thank you.
Brava! Bravissima! Wonderful! Great job! Thanks for sharing!
Bahahaha this is so great!!! I love it! You did a great job of course haha.

You go girl!
Nice job.
+Shamrockrancher It was that day!!!
+The Online Piano and Violin Tutor i tried that once and i snapped my 4th finger the 1st song to try was tam lin
WOW! SMOKIN!!
Wow even though it failed , you are still one of the greatest violinist :3

which metronome did you use? For me it is 156 not 200 ;)
That was great! I can't even believe you tried, but that was very impressive!

Hi Alison where can I have this music score please I'd like to have a go with this fun stuff
i wasnt using sheet music as i now the song, but its all over google for free in various keys.
Go girl you nailed it
There was no failure at all. That was fantastic x
by the gods that was fun to watch. I just ordered a stentor 2 and cant wait to start learning to play. that just gave me something to shoot for. I figure ill be one hundred and twelve before I would even come close, but ill have fun trying. :)
That was amazing! I would never be able to play the violin that fast
So close!!! That was awesome!
Hey! That is so cool. Talk about 'flying fingers'. Neat. Thanks for posting.
hello, I loved the video , I want to learn to play , there is some sheet music or a video teaching?
+Ana Unelmoija I dont have a tutorial of this on my channel, but if you do a search on google you might see something.
ok thanks :D
Hey,
Do you have the sheet music for this?
I can't help but think of Popeyes the sailor in black and white right now..!LOL
Awesome Alison!
Lol...that was great. I found myself smiling and tapping along as you got faster. When you crashed at the end, I lol'd when you did. Well done; much impressed. :)
Wow you were still able to keep up for quite a bit! Very good job!

Joselo Gomez I just checked out your video, i didn't recognise the song, but it sounded great nonetheless!

i think its a great idea - can you recommend or suggest a song?

Who will get the piano polish bucket gag? What about the cute little fires!!! - None of which makes sense unless you watch it.(Tee Heee).
The Online Piano and Violin Tutor Haydn's Gypsy Rondo would be my choice!
So now we know how Paganini did it: he took Irish fiddle music, added two positions and put the metronome at 210.
What system are you using for the backing tracks? Nice job 😃
Yori Nelken Studio One. by Presonus. I tell you more about it here: ruclips.net/video/nHFeDomgxTk/видео.html
What kind of violin do you have?
İt was great!! You did not end the song, but I wouldn't call that a fail, because, man! Your hands get tired after playing that long!!! Anyways I'm really a fan of playing fast, I loved this video thanks so much for making it! Love you Alison ❤️
Very good job! Not easy to do at all, you did great! :)
I want to buy music from you Alison.. I bought music from Amazon mp3.. then I downloaded on my phone. . Do that and you will have a costumer right here.. Sad Romance. One of my favorite on your interpretation. .
working on it....
;)
How do you read that fast
I would not say this was fail! You were even doing fine at 200bpm till you had a minor stumble. Incredible playing.
Fantastic skill!! Nice to watch.
I can't even read the music that fast. Great job!
she wasn't reading music...
Hey Alison could I send you a video of me playing a short bit from my studies book? I recently had to stop taking lessons so it would be amazing if you could give me pointers on what I'm doing wrong..I'm currently self teaching. lol
sure. Private message me.
The Online Piano and Violin Tutor I went to your teaching website and emailed your contact info.
Very, very, good effort :) Really enjoyed it :)
Like to learn to play that, but only at normal speed :)
I still consider what you did a victory. I couldn't even do it on 150 bpm at my current skill level. I would really like to see you try some John Williams stuff. Anyway, this was great regardless of the last part.
I wish that all my failures were like that. That was marvelous!
'i want to get up to 250 if i can!' ................... you what??? really hahhahaha like the eye brow raises now and again Alison lol!!!
Hi I'm a beginner at playing the violin I just bought a violin and I want to stay at a low level and when I'm a higher level I'll get a better violin. Is a plastic violin ok for a beginner.
dean eccleston A plastic violin? I didnt know they even existed?
Neither did I
I'll send you a picture
dean eccleston I personally cant see how a plastic violin can work as there is nothing for the sound to resinate from/through? If I were you I would buy a cheap wood violin. Its up to you though. Send me the name of the website where you can buy them from to: alison@amsmusictuition.co.uk as im interested to see...
Hi Alison I made a mistake the violins are actually wood but they have a plastic like coating. I also thought they were plastic because the description of the violin said that it was plastic. But I recently went to a violin store and they confirmed that it wasn't actually plastic. I also have a question. I have a violin for dummies guide as I would only like to get to a basic level and then seek tutoring. Would I still stand a chance of progressing even though I don't have a violin tutor?
How young you was😮
Omg.. that was so good!! I bet you can do it again, and even faster!! :)
You are so funny. Thanks it's always great to see you play.
Wow! That was excellent! Now you just need to play the old song "Katy Hill" at normal tempo
Intro?
Do you know where I can get the sheet music?
literally all over google which is why i didnt post a link as its everywhere in all sorts of keys.
what violin are you playing in the video? I see you have a recommended list, do you play one of those on the list?
its my own violin . Its not a brand and you cant buy it as it was very expensive and one of a kind.
That was bloody incredible! I'm a guitar played and couldn't get close to that at all. Well done!!!
Very nice! You should have had some spinach before trying 200 BPM
That Was incredible, I am trying to play that piece at extra slow and can't get to the middle.
although I have only been playing the violin for 3 months, and at 53 I couldn't move that fast even
if a bee was chasing me ;)
3:50 Chikn Nuggit And His Lobsters!
Hello Mam... I really salute ur art and your great efforts...:-)
Holy Cow! And just thinking I'm working on a piece that's only about 90 bpm.
Outstanding!
this tune is on a Winston "Scotty" Fitzgerald record I have. Great old time celtic
Clap clap clap. Try Devils Dream. We have fun at the jam with that one. Cheers
Oh my goodness! This is amazing! "but its funny to watch her try" Your incredible! This is awesome!
Nice job! How do u do that?
김윤경 with difficulty LOL :))
You should find a way to have to BPM slowly accelerate. Like one BPM every 2 seconds. I think that would be a great way get more accurate results! Instead of stopping and then going up 10 BPM.
Aww Alison, rip. You did very well tho. Your a fantastic Violinist!
Bravo! I loved it!
HAHAHAAHAH the " NO SHE CANT!" thingy with sfx hahahahhah XD
You discovered the fine art of faking a run -- you're now ready to be a classical soloist. Ta dah!
Wow steam coming off that bow you go lass think your ace to learn an watch explain things well for those just starting out
What do you mean you couldn't do it? That was better than I could do.
WOW That was fantastic! I loved it thank you so much!
i would suggest 'Two Hornpipes (Tortuga)' by Hans Zimmer from the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest soundtrack for a speed challenge :P quite similar and it sounds really fun to play =)
100 bpm is a fairly normal pace for this tune. It is a danceable hornpipe and if one tries to go it faster for more than 5 or 8 minutes, there will be heartattacks in the crowd. Just a little heads up here.
