      Drake is popular because he has no edges, he just makes the same songs with different beats and has had no evolution as an artist. In fact he's digressed since Take Care and NWTS. A singing lightskinned canadian, he's just a pop brand thats easy to market just like bruno mars. And when you compare them to real artists like Kendrick or The Weeknd you can see how they were essentially pushed to the top without any genuine prowess.

    If we’re comparing popularity between Drake & MJ, let me just say one thing! ☝🏿
    MJ was known in all 7 Continents. 300+ Countries. He could take a plane anywhere on this planet and a crowd will gravitate towards him in seconds.
    Drake is really only popular in USA, Canada, and Europe. Everywhere else either don’t know him or don’t give af because they have their own culture.

      Here's the thing though... Kendrick is dope AF, Absolutely. However, he isn't even close to Prince Rogers Nelson. Prince had a career spanning 40+ YEARS. He played damn near every instrument, and actually DID play every instrument, self produce, arrange, and perform the majority of his Albums aside from the & the Revolution and & The NPG Albums, releasing am an album almost _EVERY YEAR_ During those 4 decades, and wrote & produced and starred in his own films as well.... Prince is incredible & a musical genius. Kendrick is a phenomenal hip hop pioneer; but he isn't producing the songs/albums, performing, writing, and producing all of his own beats either. I know he was executive producer of the Black Panther soundtrack. But that's one Album and Kendrick wasn't on every song - like Prince DID do for the original 1980's Batman movie.
      Look, I get thid is merely a comparison for comparison purposes within the rap/hip hop genre, saying Kendrick & Drake are the Prince & MJ of their genres, but. NAH - They ain't. Drake is the pop star of Rap, sure.... But again 🙅‍♂️
      There really isn't a Prince nor MJ of music right now in any genre. I'll admit Drake & Kendrick are both incredibly talented and have each pushed the boundaries of music in their own ways; and I don't even really fuck with Drake like that. I liked Thank Me Later, and a few singles from albums here and there, but that's about it. But Kendrick has been out here for the past decade releasing classic masterpiece cohesive albums - 3 of them back to back to back.

    MJ insecurity and Drake insecurity is not the same. Michael was a genuine soul who truly didn't want problems with anyone for anyone. Drake would sabotage someone else to sate his own ego. This comparison feels deeply disrespectful

    I think this is a great comparison because you have two powerhouses in the music industry with contrasting styles. Like Michael Jackson, Drake is pretty much one dimensional (pop rap) whereas like Prince, Kendrick is way more talented and diverse (Grammys on Grammys and a Pulitzer Prize). Also like Prince, Kendrick has been the same artist since he came out whereas like MJ, Drake be switching up (I'm surprised he ain't trying to make his skin darker yet). Monday he's singing Tuesday he's twisting up his fingers and banging Wednesday he got a Jamaican accent Thursday he's on Ellen in a turtleneck and Friday he's doing something called a tootsie slide? To sum it all up Drake is an industry n***a, and Kendrick is a n***a in the industry, know the difference.

    Not saying that you should compare the King of Pop to a Canadian rapper, but their artistry is basically the same. Micheal Jackson studied and mirrored the moves of his superiors and made them better. Exactly what Drake did. Except this is hip hop, and that kind of stuff will get you lynched.

      Ted Destin no sir , He studied the game and made his own style he did things James and brown and Jackie Wilson didn’t do , Drake took from others and thinking he the goat of it fuck no

    Drake is 100% not even close to Michael Jackson. 💯. He toke Michael Jackson off his set list cause he was too much of a coward to leave him on. He doesn’t dance like Michael and isn’t kind like Michael. 🤷🏽‍♂️

      MCOC_ Josh I saw that Drake removed half of the Scorpion album from that set list because he had to give Tory Lanez time to perform his own set list. Drake performed the hits from the album, and the other more popular songs. I think he performed like 10 or 11 songs from the album, and left 11 songs off the set list. Drake always shows his respect for Mike, and I don't think he'd let some false BS accusations change his mind.👌🏽

      And where is your argument against Kendrick?

    • @CloudTribe
      @CloudTribe 5 лет назад +7

      @@JTMoodie2 Kendrick is one of the greatest artists of this generation so if someones gonna be compared to prince or MJ he's the best candidate. Drake is literally a dense ball of mediocrity

    • @JTMoodie2
      @JTMoodie2 5 лет назад +6

      @@CloudTribe Welp, that same "dense ball of mediocrity" has been outselling Kendrick 5x over for the past decade. Bar for bar, Kendrick likely has the upper hand, but does that mean that Drake has literally 0 bars of his own? Id take Drake over any of these SoundCloud rappers, and beyond that, his music is comparable to the powerhouses of today, and even the past generations in most cases
      If you think Drake hasnt done anything new or revolutionary with his music, a lot of the doors and careers for guys like Tory Lanez and PARTYNEXTDOOR or Bryson Tiller, Fetty Wap, Logic, and i could go on. Their careers would never be what they are today if Drake never paved the way for that style of music to be prosperous.
      Toronto is on the map and is *popping* because of the contributions from Drake and The Weeknd and the OVO crew. Youd be suprised to see the state of Rap and Hip Hop, and RnB in some cases if you remove Drake
      Rap is the new Pop music cause of Drake. Don't discount the boy.

      @@JTMoodie2 I mean sales don't mean much in the digital era. Since songs like Hotline Bling and Gods Plan are out months before the album and the sales from that count as album sales where as Kendrick just drops all his music at once. Let Drake drop an album no promo, no singles and see how he fairs.
      Also Kendrick talks about police brutality, gang violence, his evolution as a person and Drake whines about girls who he likely never cared about, he just needs subject matter to rap about. His new son has made that pretty clear. He's easy to market and the city of Toronto spends their own money promote him. Theirs so much money buying into Drakes brand.
      I literally live next to Toronto and the cities destroyed by the housing problem, the time for new artists from the city has passed and it's over. Drake hogged all the attention for himself and has no heir to replace himself with. He put Toronto on the map but not in a good way.

    • @JTMoodie2
      @JTMoodie2 5 лет назад +6

      @@CloudTribe Esharido Esharido if Drake put out an album without any warning, do you seriously believe he wouldn't do as good or better than he normally does? Be serious. The most marketable artist? Doesnt do well on an album because he didnt drop a single or two? Yeah okay.
      1) Drake can't speak on his experiences with gang violence or police brutality hes been through or witnessed, or anything American politics related.. because he's Canadian... Temper your expectations. Even then, you'd know that he has addressed it briefly in his music before if you were actually someone who listened to his music, but youre starting to make it clear that you've made opinions on an artist you dont know about. If you listened, you know that his subjects stretch further than just the women in his life.
      Lastly, there is a housing problem in a bunch of different places, and its worse in different places in the world than just Toronto. Plus, are you actually telling me you wanna hear rap about the housing crisis? Even then, we both know Drake can't speak on that since apparently he never "started from the bottom" or whatever y'all claim since you know him so well. You dont really know whats going on in the city. You dont pay particular attention to whats going on in the city. You're right next to it but all the energy passes you by. Start paying attention to all the artists and creators that come from that great city and you'll understand and see that things aren't what you think.

    "They act as if two legends cannot coexist" J Cole
    Both artists are dope. I personally like all of kendricks albums in the order they were released. 1. GKMC 2. TPAB 3. DAMN. I go to Kendrick for substance, community activism, visual and lyrical creativity.
    I am a huge drake fan. I go to him for the summer hits, hidden bars that go over people head, I live his vengeful and spiteful music, I go to him because I relate to a lot if the records he make concerning women. His videos are usually good. I know the running jokeis to say he doesn't write anything even though thats false, I love his weird play.
    There a place for both artist because they do different things, they're in two different lanes. They are the best at what they do. St tge end of the day, people forget it was drake that put Kendrick and asap Rocky on the big stage. Of course rocky and Kendrick had a name but it didn't get big until drake took THEM on tour, drake did the song with Kendrick and drake GAVE THEM "fuckin problems".
